depends on the specific quartz crystal, it's uncommon for the ones used in watches to oscillate at high frequencies because it's useless since they're only used to measure seconds, but there are many other applications in which you want much, much higher accuracy, such as audio recorders, which have to sample signals at at least ~44kHz, or even digital cameras, which need to sample images at PRECISELY 23.976, 24, 25... times per second

G-5600UE and GW-M5610U are the same except that the G-5600 lacks multiband and they have different designs. The DW-5600E lacks both solar and multiband. You can't go wrong with any of them but personally I like the DW-5600E better. The shape is compatible with more bezels and the module has little features like repeat timer and flash alert that are absent in other squares. I don't like the dashes on the display of the G-5600 and GW-M5610. They look cheap and become useless in the dark because the labels are not on the LCD.

tldr: I like the DW-5600E but they're all good.

In the case of nato straps, they're so cheap and there's so much variety out there you can get whole packs of them in different colors and patterns for under $20 and have a lot of options for matching your watch and clothing colors. Rubber straps are fairly cheap to anlesser extent, there are really expensive options but there are options for getting them in a couple different colors for $15 or so each. Leather is a little harrier, it varies wildly in quality and price point and odds you'll get something worth your time for under $70 is slim. But if you try to keep all of your watches in 20mm lug width you can just buy all 20mm straps and bracelets and use them on any watch you own. There's a lot of value in that, the strap game is honestly one of the more fun things about watches because a fresh strap can totally change the vibe of a watch and renew your interest in it, it's like buying a new wqtch sometimes.

Define special? Do you want a watch that has unique complications that ETA or Sellita doesn’t offer? you probably need an in-house movement then.

Do you want a watch that guarantees a maximum deviation of 1 minute per month and not 15 minutes that you might get with a cheap and unregulated Seiko movement? then you might want some fancier in-house movement from a higher caliber brand.

It’s not hard to understand.

I truly don't get how people are actually paying into the hype and paying nearly $1k for these watches.

Blancpain is a watch nerd brand. It doesn't have the same normie appeal as an Omega to make the crossover work. So when you stick a garbage ass movement inside that's worse off than a quartz - I don't see why people would be interested, let alone pay the ridiculous scalped prices.

You can buy a real Omega for $900. People are stupid.

Swatch isn’t hated. Their approach to use other brands in their ctalog is. It should also be noted that if moonswatches and shitty fathoms would’ve been available online it wouldn’t be a problem, but now? Now it’s a field day for flippers and niggers similarly to what rolex has become

>> No.17796805

>>17796798
They're selling a cheap plastic, uhh I mean bioceramic, watch that you can't repair for 400usd. That has plastic parts in it's movement which will for sure wear out. They are making it only available at select physical locations despite it not being limited edition so people are camping out and waiting for the release tomorrow. Expect the initial stock to sell out immediately and you will see them put up online for sale by scalpers for double the price. They are using a more prestigious brand they own to justify the upsell to consumers.

>> No.17796806

>>17796803
Swatches are novelties - and so are the collaborations they do. I'm all for novelties but IMO a proper watch novelty tops out around $200 where the Moonswatch does.

From what I've been reading - the movement in the Blancpain is worse than the Moonswatch because while it's automatic, it's non-removable which means servicing is completely out of the question. And then to charge $400 for this instead when it's basically a less complicated, less iconic, lower lifespan watch, IMO is a joke.

I do wish Swatch would focus on making the Moonswatch more accessible at this point. It's been over a year they could stand to start selling them online vs. 4 and a half stores in the US.

>> No.17796808

>>17796806
And to add to this I think that having an accessible Omega isn't a bad move. It's the James bond brand watch - people Omega almost as well as Rolex - and so it opens up the watch world to the normie crowd. Blancpain is nothing like this. The people who own Blancpains are mostly going to be true enthusiasts - so I don't see how this facsimile would fly the same way the moonswatch does.

I like it very much, it's my favorite watch. Had to get it serviced twice, since the first guy didn't do his job properly, the screw that secured the movement to the case was wrong so the rotor was grinding against the caseback, but after the second service it has now been running non-stop for more than a year without a hitch. Once the mainspring is wound up it keeps the time pretty well, around +2 to +10spd. I can guarantee you that you will like it, it wears very well. Which ref did you get?

Doesn't support spares for models after a period of time so don't ever expect to get those tubes replaced when they become useless. Be wary then of buying older models 2nd hand because of this unless glow doesn't concern you. You've got 12 years from a fresh set of tubes before the light dims by 50%. Reminder that watches sitting in display cases and in e-shop inventories are not fresh tubes so you're already at -2-3years at the outset.
Basically a brand to buy if you have a lot of disposable income and have bought everything you like already and just want novelty shit.
If you're not in that camp then they're not recommended.
