What's the deal with wool/silk/linen? I'm seeing a few summer suits with that blend. Is it less expensive than just an open weave wool? And will pants wear out faster on a w/s/l? I've also seen a w/s/l flannel sport coat probably for fall/winter. Opinions? Are mills using one color made of a different material to add some visual interest? Most of these fabrics are plaids if that matters. I can't find any good info on this.

You can look at vintage photos and find plenty of men wearing button-down shirts with suits. If you wear both suits and sportjackets and casual jackets, you dont need anything more than OCBD's, they work with everything. And if the collar roll is right they look great with a tie..

why are so many seersucker jackets fully constructed?
I've been looking for a nice seersucker suit in northern germany the last two summers and I found just one pinstripe seersucker suit by Herr von Eden that hadn't a full construction and that hat actually usable buttons on the sleeves with I think is a great idea for a summer suit.

All other have a full construction and lining inside the sleeves, so you'll sweat to death wearing them at 30°C. What's the point? Also are there any brands that I can look into for a suit like this?

do you mean fully lined? the lining inside the sleeves is necessary, it's very difficult to put the jacket on and take it off without the sleeve lining. you won't find a jacket without sleeve lining. just make sure the rest of the jacket is unlined as much as possible.

working sleeve buttons are a meme. it makes alterations a nightmare and you'll never open them since suit sleeves are hard to roll up, it's easier to just take the jacket off if you're that hot.

It's the brand and the expense wowing you, not the watch. The A. I disagree, I have a vintage seiko tank that I think looks really good. the cartier seems slightly more well done IMO but to my eye it's aesthetically on par with my seiko. Only thing is mine broke anyway.

I'm a big fan of tank style watches these days, I used to absolutely hate the cartier tank and rectangular watches in general but one day it just clicked in my head and now I love them. But the ones I can afford as a student aren't that good, there's always something off about them. They're either too chunky, or the dial is ugly, or they look fine but they're ridiculously huge. The new Seiko tanks look good but are easily double the size they ought to be.

I'm bummed out because the vintage seiko I got is beautiful and practically perfect but of course it doesn't even run, I took a gamble on it and I lost. If I could find something similar in running condition I'd buy it in a heartbeat and put it on a dark brown alligator strap.

Okay if you want an actual place to buy things like that, I’d recommend you try EBay for the sport coat, can get some good deals there. I like LL Bean chinos, and they also make a good OCBD too. Dress shoes try Clark’s shoes, I really like my pair from them.

I'm trying to build the foundation of a decent formal wardrobe.
I ordered 3 purple label OCBDs (white, blue and blue/white striped) and a set of medium grey wool trousers from Spier for $289. Could I have done better or am I good? The shirts look nice, and I like how they use mother of pearl buttons.
Also bought a polo RL vintage wool navy blazer off eBay for cheapies.
Will probably snag some chinos from LL Bean, anything else I should be looking for? Already have decent shoes and belts.

What does “formal” mean? I don’t really consider OCBDs formal although those are nice shirts. All that stuff is nice, but you don’t have to spend that much.
