The Casioak is popular because of young people and the forums are full of literal boomers. The GA-2100 is a great design and it's very thin but at the end of the day it's a featureless ana-digi which are a dime a dozen. Squares are a better design than the Casioak and big G-Shocks like the frogman have more features. Young people want something small and inoffensive so they like the Casioak, old people don't give a fuck so they wear what they want without caring what other people think. Since old people have more money than sense the premium G-Shock are squares and Frogmans while Casioaks are budget and midrange watches because that is all young people are willing to spend on G-Shocks.

tldr: it's all about age, wealth and sense

Late, but to reply to the Anon from the last thread who said he liked my shitter (>>17767983)
Dive Dynamics produced a range of professional divers equipment during the 80's and 90's, and from what I can gather, a Hong-Kong based company called Starshine International produced a whole bunch of these divers with all sorts of different names on the dials from at least1986 to as late as 1992(ish?). Dive Dynamics was just one of many companies that happened to commission them to produce a few with their brand on the dial for sale in dive and surf shops here in the UK at the time. They supposedly came packaged in a plastic container filled with water when they were brand new to show off their waterproofness, which is kinda fun I think.

There's very little detailed information about Starshine divers online, but I went through a phase a while back of being autistically fascinated with them and I compiled a whole bunch of info about them on the off-chance anyone might find it useful. I'll make a follow-up post to this one with some details that might help you find one.

Pic rel is one I bought with a fucked movement and fucked handset a few years ago that I decided to put a custom set of hands into. Ended up giving it to a friend a while ago, though.

Circles are too square, man. You need some triangles to break it up and keep it interesting.

Something that actually does bother me about it is the 6 o'clock date. Which all the microbrands do now. Does Miyota not make a 3 o'clock date movement? I used to not like the 6 o'clock windows and preferred the classic 3 o'clock but didn't really have a good explanation for why I felt that way, but the other day I discovered the reason the OGs put it at 3 o'clock and it makes complete sense. It's so that when you wear a long sleeve shirt the date can easily poke out under your shirt cuff every time without pulling your sleeve back if you just need to quickly reference the date. There's so much to appreciate about the classic designs, the old timers put so much thought into every little thing.

There's a fag that was constantly posting the same wrist shots of his fake IWC and Vasheron all day every day every thread for attention. The IWC is way too big for his twig wrist so people made fun of him because it looked like he was a little kid wearing his dad's watch. Then one day he posted a mirror selfie in a public men's room wearing a weird plastic/rubber looking suit with geometric angles on the pockets and shit, everyone made fun of him for looking like a queer giggolo in a cheap suit and he started posting receipts trying to prove it was a designer suit and shit. But he resembled a wet plastic robot manwhore.
What a fag. I bet he's still here every day but acting slightly less like a fag. A good hint is if someone starts talking about stock portolios and investments and mortgages and how much money he has out of nowhere when nobody asked it's probably him.

>What happened at Zenith in the 2000s?
The guy in charge was a man named Theirry Nataf who realized that Zenith sales were in the shitter making smaller, traditional watches. He looked at what the successful brands were making and saw that big, outrageous watches were doing well (Panerai, Hublot, the Offshore, etc)
So he decided to have Zenith make similar wild designs, some of them were pretty advanced, technologically, like >>17768955. To no one's surprise, though, they sold like shit.

Zenith's problems then are the same as they are today:
1. They're known only for a movement (the El Primero) but no actual watches
2. Their distribution network is terrible

They're the kind of brand that everyone says they respect but almost no one actually respects enough to buy. Everyone applauds Zenith when they make a traditional watch and complains when they make a radical new design, but it doesn't translate to sales in either case.

Wanted an airman for a years but never found one that was the right size, movement and price until this.
40mm. I can't find a lug to lug anywhere but I did a little gimp autism and it's most likely 49mm given the 20mm lug width.

Daily, but can be a bit dressy or sporty

Pref Automatic Swiss, but honestly, if it's a cool watch I wouldn't mind quartz

> Desired features, e.g. water resistance, day/date, 2nd time zone
Nothing too crazy, I plan on wearing this watch daily, as mentioned

> Preferred strap option, e.g. leather, nylon, bracelet
I really enjoy leather but I think for daily, a metal bracelet is more practical? Not a fan of Nato bracelets either
