Obviously wool, it's a bit heavy, it's durable, warm and looks good. I would use merino wool only as underwear, because I don't think it's "heavy" enough looking. Then linen as this guy said >>17767635. And of course cotton is perfectly acceptable, if it's in style (ie. for undershirts, heavier cotton weaves etc.)

Both can work. Clean shaven is better if you go for more 'gothic' neofolk and I'd say clean shave is easier to pull off. Beard if you want to look rugged, can't see it working any other way.
