/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - #8 HATCH EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them an

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

Need some recs for a semi-formal boot that is $300 or less that will fit my cave man feet. something that would look good in business casual or in a job interview.

I tried Thursday presidents but the fit was just horrific. I have a really tall instep and a wide foot and the gap between the eyelets on the thursdays was huge in their widest size and the laces were digging into the top of my foot.

red wings and nicks fit me perfect in 9.5/10 EE

just be warned these style of boots are vulcanized, i don't think most cobblers can do resole jobs aside from maybe just gluing another type of sole to them and hoping for the best. also., be wary of brands like Rothco, Fox Outdoors and others that sell these things for around the 40-50 dollar mark. They're usually garbage and fall apart. Brands like McRae and surplus boots are much better quality and should hold up for a good while.

Now that i have another pair of boots of the same color that i like more, chelseas are not my style to be honest, so i wanna get rid of pic related, whats the best place to sell these and not getting scammed? i dont use Ebay anymore since i got scammed by a buyer that returned a bootleg vidyagame that was quite expensive and Ebay fucked me.

I was out with friends last night and we passed a shoe shop and my friend was like "this guy has been selling $300 shoes for as long as I remember, I wonder who buys them?" and I looked at them and it was all plastic cemented "dress" shoes.

I wanted to say that these are trash and that I have spent way more than that on many pairs of shoes but I stayed quiet.
I'm pretty sure I have spent more on shoe trees than my normal friends have spent on shoes.

But I keep quiet. I do not let people know. There is no need for anyone to know.

How is the fit in the shaft?
I have the winter version at home and the shaft doesn't close properly around my shins because it's just so damn wide (designed for tucking pants in).
Do the summer ('leicht', or the usual memes that everyone gets) also have a super big shaft or is it closer in fit to something like pic rel where it's actually possible to tightly lace the shaft around the shins?

It's an unlined leather upper, and even with my slim legs and ankles they fit close enough to not be floppy or uncomfortable, especially with heavier socks. these only really work with denim or ecru/other very light colored pants, lighter than the boot itself
maybe warm and not too dark pants could also work on a case by case basis
the leather will darken up with time and be a bit more versitile as far as styling with other colors, but don't expect much

the style is definitely casual and these can't be dressed up, so don't even try to look like the retard in the pic related, because it doesn't work (it's tan essex but it's the same principle)

>alden orthopedic
>alden-pedic
alden used to advertise that it makes orthopedic shoes, which just means aldens lasts are more foot shaped, are supposed to grip in the heel thereby allowing more freedom in the front and can accommodate prescription orthopedic insoles
this is true for their entire line across the board, not just the "foot balance" line, which just has the silly thomas heel, which is supposed to give some additional arch support
this label is totally meaningless and these are not modified in any way from a standard alden shoe to make them "alden-pedic"

this is just the regular penny loafer on the van last
the only difference between this one and the LHS loafer of today is that this has a machine-stitched moccasin-style separate apron, which is arguably worse in construction than the handsewn stitch on the LHS
you can buy an alden 984 that hasn't been collecting dust and absorbing moisture from the air for several decades for basicly the same price

you think your shitty chrometan leather is high quality
you dont however think it can withstand the horrid abuse of driving stick because somehow you'll scuff them (spare a though for all those French military men forced to endure driving ;__;7 )
you think your clown toe last is the end all and be all of silhouettes and clearly dont understand that's not appropriate for a work environment
people laugh at you regularly by your own admission

idk if these are your first half decent boots son but you need to realise they're not special. theyre not any better built than the average service boot and chimping out over the silhouette doesnt invalidate the numerous compliments I've gotten on my boots or how comfy they are
