>Selleck has since gone on the record about this watch (though he did refer to it as 1675), admitting that of the many cool props on the show, Ferrari included, it was the Pepsi GMT that he kept. Speaking to the FHH, he noted:

>"I've always loved that watch. It was the perfect match for Magnum. It's a watch that likes action, and believe me I know what I'm talking about. I've had my fair share of 'sport' watches but never one as tough as the Rolex. It's been underwater, buried in sand, taken I don't know how many knocks, and never a problem. It's called the Pepsi because the bezel colors are the same as the Pepsi logo. Personally, I thought the red went well with the Ferrari and the blue matched Hawaii's lagoons and sky."

>The GMT was a terrible watch choice for Magnum. It's a pilot's watch meant to track multiple times zones with a mere 100m WR. Magnum was a Navy SEAL. He lived in Hawaii, his favorite past times included paddle boarding, snorkeling/scuba diving; he even spent an entire episode messing about with a shark lost at sea. Not once did he ever have to mess around with multiple timezones. Had they given him a Sub or a Sea-Dweller, I could understand, but to substitute a legit dive watch like the Chornosport Sea Quartz 30 with 300m WR with a 100m pilot watch? Dumb choice

I personally cant stand people that buy watches only to show off their "wealth" to strangers. Strangers who 99% of the time can't even tell if they're real without opening the case.

NO I am NOT anti swiss I own several except that certain fan boy brand.

In b4 poor I own a $50,0000 car with no debt and am posting from a $2 million house literally.

Currently wearing Citizens and Seikos.

I also like small brands because not every try hard and boomer fuc is trying to show them off or has heard of them.

>Magnum was “lost” at sea. Boat sank or some accident. Bottom line Magnum was on his own in the water, no life jacket. Higgins is searching for him. Magnum remembers his father using his watch to time him tread water (referenced in this article). When Higgins finally tracks him down with his boat, he jumps in the water to bring him in, but as he swims to grab Magnum, Magnum pushes him away because he needed a few more seconds to “break his record.” Higgins finally starts pulling Magnum towards the boat as Magnum looks at the sky saying “I did it, Dad!”

>They do another flashback of Magnum treading water at beach as a child with his mom. Camera pans to Navy officers in dress uniform arriving at the beach looking for her. Some of you probably know what that means but those scenes always make my eyes water at the very least. Yes, the Navy officers were there to tell them Magnum’s father had died. The next scene is little Magnum saluting his dad’s coffin at the funeral wearing the watch as it dangles (also referenced in this article).

>What a throwback. Now I’m sad.

1 dress watch (classic leather watch)

For the chronograph, a black bracelet is HIGHLY preferred
For the diver, bracelet colour doesn't really matter, I can make do with the silver colour. As for the watch colour itself, blue/black/green/white/red anything other than gold is cool with me
Finally for the leather watch, a black/brown/blue strap is preferred and i have no colour choices for the watch face itself. Maybe black looks cool but white works as well.

But that's wrong. Turdor is a bullshit brand that makes ugly gaudy bulky classless pieces. Unlike Rolex, Turdor does not have an ounce of uniqueness or refinement in its designs. It's the biggest bullshit brand in the watch industry right now. It pretends to be Breitling but it has none of its significance. It's a nothing brand. Turdors are absolutely worthless once the fad dies down.

Don't buy it privately if he doesn't have papers or a service card (preferably from OMEGA) listing the case and movement serial number. Because you won't know how to authenticate it as a newbie. Buy from a reputable dealer even without papers. Save the money there. A watch this old doesn't need to have papers and it's small value difference (maybe 300). Since you want to wear and not collect it, you don't really care about papers anyway. Collectible watches start at 4 or 5k.

When Rolex designs, builds and encases a 32XX movement, that's called in house. The process was controlled by Rolex all the way down to the final result.

When Baume & Mercier designs a movements, ValFleurier builds it, and 3 different brands encase it, that's not in house. Call it "cross house" or "in group" if you like.

No, there isn't. Neither legally nor ethically.

What you're saying would mean that the Omega co-axial movement is not an in-house movement since 80% of it comes from ETA (and chances are high it's STILL being made by ETA just to Omega spec), same goes for Lemania which is also owned by Swatch and not the same letters as "Omega".

Nobody sane in the watch world would ever make such a fucking retarded claim. You're beyond help. You're also saying that Tudor when using the Breitling B01 movement are not using an in-house movement, yet everybody refers to it as such. This is one that I would see your point if you made it, because Tudor is buying an ebauche "of an in-house manufacture" instead of developing it in-house. However by most accounts, ebauches bought and assembled in-house are considered in-house pieces.

That nowheresville semenmaster might be bland, but at least it isn't fugly.
The movement within deserves more derision than the externals.

I think it's going to go the opposite way to what you say. I think that as time passes the blandmaster will be more coveted. It fits better on more (smaller) wrists, and the cluttered retard look will not last. People will desire the clean gloss.

Also, if the Bond franchise descends, as everyone believes it will, into the woketard realm the link between a seamaster and bond will no longer matter.

Well I don't think so but to each his own. The blandmaster wasn't even very well liked when it was new, I mean, nobody really went OH SHIT THE NEW BOND. Probably because it never was the Bond.

I partially agree with you on the new wave dial, which is the reason why I don't own it- I think Omega went overboard. But I would STILL prefer it to the blandmaster, that was kind of my point. If you don't need the modern ceramic bullshit just get the Goldeneye. Remember that the old wave dial is appreciating faster than the blandmaster, I think it's even priced above it now or equal.

>Tudor using a Breitling movement (and vice versa) is certainly not “in-house”
You’re grossly oversimplifying and I don’t know if you’re being disingenuous or just ignorant. Tudor owns Kenissi along with Chanel. Kenissi was founded by the head of Tudor and the ex-CEO of Breitling and Chanel acquired a minority stake a few years later. Now they provide movements for Tudor, Chanel, Breitling, and a few other brands.

All this sperging over in-house movements is pointless marketing anyway. Unless you’re actually an extremely high end manufacturer like Patek, Lange, JLC, AP, or Vacheron, there’s nothing terribly noteworthy about in-house versus not.

Particularly when simple 3-hand pieces are concerned. Which is where I truly don't give a shit as long it's a high grade (Chronometer) tier Swiss movement (ETA2892 based). I have no problem with IWC buying an ETA ebauche, replacing many parts and putting it together (which they did until ETA banned the practice). I think it's a grey area of whether that's in-house or not, I think it's a hybrid. What I will say is that my IWC ETA ticks, winds, runs and moves differently than my Omega calibre 1120 (same base movement) or for that matter any other ETA I've handled and I've handled many. The 1120 also feels completely unique. I've handled some bone stock ETA and Sellitas and they felt cheap and lazy. Can't say the same for the Omega or IWC editions, at all. IWC even replaced the escapement until 2011 models.

And yeah when it's a Chronograph or complication, I will look for a high quality in house movement over a clone shitter, but we're talking generic 3 handers. What fucking difference does it make? The most important thing about a 3 hander is power reserve. And the IWC movement is actually best in class there at the moment with 120h. I would love that piece but have an ETA IWC instead, whatever. It was a fraction of the price.

Even if its a chronograph, nothing wrong with Valjoux 7750. Or for complications (chronogrpah too) with added modules to a 2892.

As previously said, even holy trinity complicated watches used to be a JLC 920 ebauche, with modules added.

I agree with you. It's actually very funny as many die hard enthusiasts actually prefer the old JLC-based 15202 over its replacement mainly due to differences in movement architecture and finishing quality. I'm not sure why so many people have taken the in-house marketing babble hook line and sinker. It's just nuts.

The cal 1120 is the first time Omega went in-house modification. They replaced plenty of parts, even the winding mechanism. The rotor was also produced by them and cut into a different shape than stock.

>The caliber 1120 used in the older Seamaster Professional series is an ETA 2892-A2 with 2 jewels added to the ends of the barrel arbor. Omega also reshaped the automatic winding system's bridge to increase the winding efficiency and decrease rotor wobble over their previous version called the 1109.

Because steel is king. The problem with black watches is that your only real option is resin and plastic, because those can scratch. All plated metal watches look like shit after a couple of years because the coating scratches off, revealing the shiny base metal.

Cause it's the color of steel. People like steel for watches, high grade finished steel can be as smooth as silk to the skin. It's not about wanting it to be silver, it's just steel. Also, it probably reminds us of medieval swords.

There's also the element that any different colored / material comes across as tacky, ugly or shitty. Rarely if ever have I seen a good looking non-steel-non-gold watch. There is platinum which is more of a white than a silver color but obviously super pricey.

>>17748256
There are plenty options aside from resin and plastic. Ceramic is one. There are full blown cases (and even bracelets) made from ceramic, and that can be any color you want. I don't know precisely why this hasn't caught on, possibly because it's too avant garde for Rolex and Omega. Also, ceramic has some downsides, on one hand it doesn't scratch but on the other it can shatter when dropped. That's a big turn off to most people. Shattering is far worse than scratches because a shattered case would basically mean you've destroyed the watch and it's now worthless.

What would you prefer watches to be made out of? Wood? Lmao
Metals are the only option. Ceramic is a gay meme. Plastic is for kids toys.

Steel is used for practical reasons, because it's hard and can only be scratched by materials harder than it, which are not common.
Titanium is another practical alternative being lighter than steel but softer so more likely to scratch.
It turns out than those two are gray because... most metals happen to be gray.
Gold and platinum are indeed luxury materials used of prestige first and foremost. In alloys gold can come in different colors such as white, yellow, rose and red. Again, that's just how it is, you can bet your ass if there was a way to make purple gold watchmakers would use it. There is another tradeoff which is the purer the gold is, the softer it is, so that's why watches are more likely to be 18k than 24k.
In very high end watchmaking you'll find more unusual materials like zirconium also. At that point they're used just because.
There are also ceramic watches which can be any color you want but can shatter on impact so quite impractical for a wrist watch, mostly used as a novelty material.

I thought they were steel bracelets just coated in black colour?
>All plated metal watches look like shit after a couple of years because the coating scratches off
Eh, I don't think the Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of The Moon collection has this issue does it? I don't think it's the case for most of the top brands making black watches.
>only real option is resin and plastic
They also come in those textile straps (like the hamilton khaki). Some also come with leather though I can't point out to an exact model.

>Rarely if ever have I seen a good looking non-steel-non-gold watch
Omega Dark side of the moon looks pretty slick imo
>There are plenty options aside from resin and plastic. Ceramic is one.
Black titanium coated steel is also an option. I get this from googling what the watch in picrel is made of. "The modular case is made of several different materials layered together in their construction. The black titanium-coated stainless steel has a fine brush finish on the middle case, ends of the lugs, and case back."

>What would you prefer watches to be made out of? Wood? Lmao
Never said that bro, was just wondering why companies aren't applying black titanium coating on their steel bracelets and cases. It looks more sleeker and attractive than your regular steel watch no?

Are there any 24k gold watches out there at all?

I want a quartz diver or GMT-master looking watch for under 1000 (the cheaper the better honestly unless it's actually justified).

What would be something cool to get? I already have a Casio MDV107 in the batman variant, so I want something without blue details.

Should I go for a Casio Duro or just grab a master copy of the Edifice EQB1000XDC1A? The latter comes at around the same cost from where I'm buying, the seller is from a pretty reputed shop around the country, and he says that the edifice comes with miyota movement. I saw the watch physically and it's stunning. The chronograph buttons work as well!

Now it's a question of whether I care for originality or not. I'm more of an aesthetics/looks kinda guy so that watch being a "master copy" doesn't really bother me at all. What do you guys recommend I buy between the two?

Tell that to my fingernails. High polish parts of this watch (or any other watch) attract micro scratches (hairlines) like a motherfucker. They are the kind of scratches that are invisible to the naked eye but shine an LED light at the piece and you'll scream. Even a brand new factory item will have these "scratches".

I did hear from dealers that they never examine or grade watches based on these micro scratches though. If you can't see them with the naked eye, it's treated as unworn condition.

I've noticed that as well and my understanding is that these happen because of pieces of dust that get on your hand, clothes etc. and scratch the surface.
It should not be possible to scratch stainless steel with plastic, nails and the likes.

Sorry brother. The colors are feminine and the moon at the 12 o’clock position looks like it’s off-center to the right. I think it would be hard to pair this watch with outfits. All your clothes colors would have to be neutrally colored except for pieces that match that teal dial or the salmon accent color
