the reason the JeP neroli intense gets shilled here over the PdN one is because the JeP is just some mediocre souped up eau de cologne as advertised (like better perfumers haven’t tackled the same subject before) while the PdN is more than it says on the tin.

>> No.17740780

>>17740757
As long as you like the smell, nothing wrong with ordering a bottle of stuff you like?

>>17740773
It's shilled here because it smells like a longer lasting take on 4711/Kolonya and costs less than 10 bucks. Of course it has been done a million times, 4711 is over two centuries old. It's not about being better, being different, being more, it's about being very similar to 4711 with better performance and without a massive price hike.

>> No.17740782

i’d rather buy 4711.

>> No.17740784

>>17740782
Well, yes, but sometimes I also want more than 15-30 minutes of 4711 pleasure and unless I bring the bottle or a decant of it, Neroli Intense will get me exactly that without being more expensive. 100 mL of 4711 would cost me 8.80€ right now (excl. shipping), 100 mL of Neroli Intense would cost 6.88€.

The reason really is that JeP is much cheaper. That's it. PdN is obviously much more refined, better quality, lasts longer and has some original twist to the classical EdC DNA but when it comes to EdC these may not be the top priorities for people.

>> No.17740824

>>17740773
the JeP one is popular here because it's very cheap and many people just want "4711 but with better performance". some want it so much they're willing to pay for Neroli Portofino, so a sub 10$ fragrance that executes this well enough is an easy recommendation

>you would think so, ganymede has been genuinly my MOST COMPLIMENETED fragrance ever, and it has also been the only fragrance that felt like an actual needle mover when it came to dating, whilst other fragrances can add 0.25 - 0.5 if you had to put them on a scale, they complete the look, set the mood etc. Ganymede felt like it added 1.0 maybe even 1.25, which for just a fragrance is fucking ridiculous, and because of those experiences it boosted my confidence even more. Try it for yourself. Yep, I was reading some reviews at work because I received it today and I wasn't home.

I got that one and a bunch of samples from the house and it's a new favourite. It doesn't smell exactly like the shower gel, but it's leathery, aromatic, marine , woody and fresh. The vetiver is present and gives it some edge without being intrusive. Cannot find the incense undertones yet.

I'll report back how it develops. But so far doesn't seem to smell like a father with a dead wife.

Paco Rabanne's Invictus Aqua if you want roughly the same scent with 3x the performance. It can be overpowering though so if you're going to wear it stick to two sprays. If you want something cheaper and fresher then try Nautica Voyage. It's a meme but it's good. Performs very well on my skin and with my skin chemistry. Same, inspired by your post. I have an early L'Oreal bottle of it and the performance isn't/wasn't dead yet. But as usual, I'm hearing a lot of reformulation rumors. I'm worried that if I ever have to buy a bottle again it will be dead.

>>17741668
Smells like pencil shavings, but it differs from person to person. Some even smell nothing at all. Since it's a single ingredient, 40 bucks per bottle is probably legit (and very overpriced even, since it's likely 10% iso-e diluted with alcohol).

>>17741674
It doesn't do anything of the sort, despite what YouTube scientists claim. It makes your fragrance smell like fragrance + iso-e super.

>>17741677
Ambroxan smells like soft woods to me. If you layer it with a fragrance, it will smell like fragrance + ambroxan. If it has ambroxan already, it will smell more of ambroxan and subdue the other notes.

Sundowner. Tauer himself says it's for enjoying a cocktail in the summer evening sun, fagrantica morons call it a winter fragrance. Since the hivemind of fragrantica might have some validity to their claim, but obviously doesn't outweigh the perfumer himself, the best compromise requires that it's both a summer and winter fragrance.

Depends on what they have. Simple as. It's likely just a fancier storefront for niche and fauxniche stuff which wants to lure you in with the promise of easily being able to test frags (which you can do at regular stores as well). I'd say test the high quality designers if you haven't (Dior, Chanel, Guerlain, Caron, Hermes, maybe CdG) and after that dive straight into the niche stuff or see if they have the exclusive lines of the aforementioned houses. Skip the entire designer line-up of mall frags. If you test the good designers, you will probably find out that a lot of the fauxniche frags just reiterate on them. For me, it was eye-opening and I realized that those houses obviously have no interest in dishing out daring, exciting or otherwise innovative stuff, they only want to produce high quality refined clones of things that are already popular to cash in on that delicious smelly water margin. Don't forget to leave in the end and buy the stuff online for less.

What's the best place or site to get samples in the US? I've been looking into this a lot and narrowed down which scents I want to try, don't have a lot of retail/places that would have what I'm looking for readily available, so samples would be nice. Looking at the OP, there's a lot of sites for it, but most of them seem to be euro/UK/import, spotty inventory, or janky/questionable sites/shipping, so figured I'd ask. Looking mostly for Floris No.99, Kiehl's Original, or Eau d'es Baux at the moment, starting small. Also got told to try Terre d'Hérmes here a few times as well as a Cartier, so any directions appreciated.

creeds original GIT doesn’t smell like it does now. Pierre Boudon invented the OG GIT and then reformed it into exactly what he envisioned (cool water) 3 years later after he parted ways with Oliver Creed for not allowing him to create his ideas in full. After creed saw how good cool water was, they reformulated the original GIT DNA that Pierre made with Olivier, to the new one that Pierre made with Davidoff - his original vision with no compromises. So yes, creed made GIT first but the GIT of today smells nothing like it did the first 3 years it was released, pre cool water.

Yeah, I could be wrong about the year but I am 100% positive GIT was far different than it is now. It’s the entire reason Pierre Boudon left Creed, Olivier Creed forced him to use his techniques when he wanted to created his own vision of GIT, which is the original davidoff and now the current version of GIT - which creed blatantly copied I guess in 2000 after Pierre Boudon left and was allowed total creative freedom with davidoff. Also, GIT isn’t the only frag creed has copied from cheaper houses. Creed Santal smells 99% like montblanc individuel, which was made before santal and is 30$. Creed has a habit of making 30-40$ frags and charging their customers 300$ for them, well because it’s le creed. Scumbag company imho, but they have good stuff.

but it's funny that TdH is notoriously disliked by women and liked by men. my experiences allign with this too. all of the women I asked about it said it was okay at best and "too strong" or "too resinous" at worst. meanwhile at least two of my male friends go "damn, you're wearing that great smelling cologne again" almost every time I wear it

Had an interesting experience at work today, got four compliments on my fragrance from black women. 1 was on her own, the other three in a group. The leader of the trio said "Damn boss you smell good" , another agreed and the third said if I was her man she wouldn't let me out of the house smelling like that.
I know this sounds "and then everyone clapped" tier, I rarely get compliments and what pisses me off is I was wearing Sauvage EDP, a fucking bottle I got used for twenty bucks at a thrift store. I have way more expensive and IMHO "better" frags that fly under the radar, day 1 wearing this shit and the women went nuts. Two of my mechanics heard the conversation and had me show them on their phones what to buy. I hate the fact that the anon who spams Sauvage bottles and keeps repeating "no milly?" in response to niche frags is probably on to something.
I don't know where I'm going with this, I'm having an existential fragrance crisis but yeah if you want to bang black chicks Dior has your back.

Probably because they associate it with money based on having such a small exposure to “luxury”
Like how back in the day many blacks would value a Mercedes over a Bentley/RollsRoyce because they never heard of them (now more have due to rap music). They would just think that a Bentley is an old man car because they’re unfamiliar and they would call you broke or something if they saw you in a Bentley simply because they never heard of it. In this same way, they have a familiarity and know Dior Sauvage to be expensive (like $150US lol) so they think you’re a “baller” or whatever and want to fuck you because they think you have money

You all hate Sauvage because it's throws the reality of the world in your face ever time you smell it.
Sauvage isn't brilliant, it isn't exceptional, it isn't magical. It simply well put together, friendly, out going, doesn't quit and manages to fit in without changing in almost every situation. And that is more than good enough because the overwhelming majority of people love it. And this is documented time and time again, video after video and post after post. People love Sauvage.
Sauvage as a fragrance is what you wish you could be as a person, but aren't. Instead you'll sit around circle jerking the rare ingredients and exotic creations, lauding each other for your superior taste, looking down on the plebs who shower Sauvage with compliments. Why don't they compliment you? Isn't it obvious how much better your fragrance is? It's niche for gods sakes!
Nevermind that you don't actually understand what niche even means.
So you'll post and post, seething and pretending to laugh at your own wit each time you meme about Bois Imperial. But one black day you'll crack and do the unthinkable: You'll buy Sauvage. You won't post about it here of course , my god why would you? You have a completely anonymous reputation to protect! You'll spray it on and part of you will be ashamed and feeling transgressive, but a small sliver of you will feel hopeful for a change. Maybe, just maybe, today I'll be noticed. Today I'll get a compliment. I just want to feel what it's like one time, everyone else loves this stuff, surely there's one compliment left for me?
I genuinely pity you when you still won't get a compliment and are forced to confront the reality that even a jovial titan like Sauvage can mask how rotten, desolate and unappealing you are.

So keep shitting on Sauvage, spray your niche of the month or whatever arab oil is getting hawker now. much like a tranny pretends to be a woman you are equally delusional in your claims of superiority. Cope and seethe.

So what does guerlainade smell like? It is classified as a floral oriental fragrance for women.
Top notes: neroli, aldehyde, bergamot, peach
Heart notes: jasmine, rose, orange blossom, patchouli, musk, orris, vetiver
Base notes: sage, vanilla, tonka bean, almond

A reader sent me a sample of the original version of Guerlinade and I found it to be quite herbal, green, masculine and strong.
