I live how the autistic kid created multiple other threads to confuse people and make it a miserable experience for posters. Now he’s baiting responses to bump his shitty threads. But no. I think you’re right. Now that I think about it, the story with Eternity is even more important for me. When I was 18 or 17 my dad took me to a perfume kiosk in one of the local malls to buy me my first man’s fragrance. I remember that I picked Eternity and even how much it costed (I perceived it as a fortune back then when it was released), and that I felt a bit guilty for picking such an expensive fragrance because we were a rather humble family but my dad hasn’t bat an eye or discussed with my choice and just payed up. It stayed with me for a long time as I was using it only for special occasions.

OP made me sad with this post. Ultime was my signature for 3 years until it got discontinued, nothing beats the gin & tonic style ginger rose DNA imo, Absolute class. I’ve wanted to find a higher quality niche version and so far the only thing I’ve found is Ex Nihilo the hedonist - it truly is better in every way, much more natural smelling and less screechy. that being said I can’t justify spending 300$ on a freshie that only lasts for 5-6 hours even though I love it. Do any of you have a valid alternative that isn’t so expensive? Anything 200 and under possibly?

I like perfumes that exhume a kind of academia vibe.
So far I have Penhaligan Sartorial, Alexandria II, and Eau de Baux.
All of these are for fall and winter, and a bit of spring.
Can’t for the life of me find something that I like for summer.

>Bois Imperial
Not sure if I got memed or not, started off really musky, then settled into just a clean, soapy and slightly sweet smell, but with this metallic harsh note in the background that was offputting. Went to sleep and hours later that went away and it just smells soapy, like fresh clean sheets. Quite nice if you like that and the performance is insane, but it doesn't seem that special or complex.

>Divine Vanille
First spray it smells like a rubber tire. Then just a dark ambery vanilla, smells licoricey at the beginning and just settles down to a cinnamon kind of smell. Kind of boring.

>Fig Infusion
Just smells like the skin and leaves of the fig plant I guess? Very green and planty. I don't like the bitterness of the black tea (I think thats what it is?) Not a nice smell to me.

>>17733667
I understand that this post is more about you than actually finding a fragrance, but if you want any reccs, give us something to work with. What frags do you own? What do you like? If you want to buy, then what is your budget? Can you wait for it to arrive from an online shop, or it must be bought quickly locally? Last time I wore Diaghilev for a black tie party, and New York Intense before that.
>>17733682
This is a good recc.

April Aromatics Irisistible, Son Venin Post-Hume, Menditterosa Athanor, ADV Iris Nazarena, Masque Milano L'Attesa are all my favorite iris scents. All are very much different from each other, but each is great for a different reason.

17733934

In Love With Everything is a scent that pushes the bounds of unisex perfume, by which I mean it is a women's perfume through and through. It's really good, don't get me wrong, but the overwhelming fruitiness is so sugary and sweet between the raspberry, the citrus, and the straight sugar reminiscent of the one they use in Saint Julep it makes me kind of sick. It mellows out really nicely and you get a powdery, creamy sensation that makes it all much more bearable. I assume that's the sandalwood being very subtle because it didn't pop like in other scents. I let my gf try it and she really enjoyed it, so if you're looking for something for a woman I'd say this is a really nice pick. Longevity was good, six hours on three sprays. It didn't give me Miami vibes nor party vibes, which is disappointing, but it gave me something decent in a kind of childish or sensitive way.

Thanks, though it's not my cup of tea, it's too dense/heavy/cloying with kitchen spice for my taste, especially in the beginning.
>>17733803
Fair, my bad.
I don't own very much, I like vetiver frags like Terre d'Hermes, Grey Vetiver and Encre Noire, resinous stuff like camphor and menthol, though I've never found any frag that I like very much in this area, the better ones were Aesthete by Le Galion and Enclave by Amouage, but I didn't like them enough to buy bottles.
I also like smokey stuff, Arso by Profumum Roma is a favorite, but I don't think it's wearable/crowd-pleasing enough for the occasion.
I generally like jasmine, iris, cedar wood and fir as well, and I'm not too fond of vanilla, cinnamon, cumin, saffron, and everything else you would often find in a kitchen.
I can wait for something to come in from an online shop as long as it's shipped from the EU, and I'd like to spend no more than €200 for 100ml of juice.
>NYI
That sounds like it might do the trick, I'll have to finally sample it and see how heavy the vanilla is on my skin.
I'm also considering Marquis de Sade by ELDO, which might be a good excuse to buy a sample set from them.

Newfag anon here, went out again to test smell more fragrance, seems like I really do like woody smells, some stuff that I felt nice if I were to wear them are Le Labo Santal 33 for comfy smell, Encre Noire and Tom Ford Oud Wood for formal/work situations. I don't like strong citrus, strong leather, strong fruity, and also don't want any hint of tobacco smell at all.

Are there any other woody but versatile fragrance I could try out? Guerlain retailers here don't carry Guerlain Vetiver, I have to buy 1-2 ml tester bottles online here. Also is there any noteworthy woody fragrance from Essential Parfums other than the Bois Imperial? I plan to buy 1-2 ml testers for Bois Imperial which is cheaper instead of buying the whole discovery set cause of shipping cost, since I don't know if I'll like it. Going to try and find if Tom Ford Beau de Jour and Tom Ford Grey Vetiver is available to smell here, as well as other brands.

Don't bother, it's an outdated and frankly just mediocre vetiver fragrance for the modern times. It hasn't aged well and don't well any vintage trannies tell you otherwise. Also it's strong citrus. Grey Vetiver is a much better fragrance (albeit more minimalistic). BdJ is probably the best of them all. Absolutely go for the Essential Parfums sample set if you're a noob. Buying yourself samples and sample sets is the best thing you can do for yourself when you're new and for the love of god stay away from buying full bottles blindly.

I'd rather go for Santal 33 instead. Penhaligon Sartorial isn't the woody smell I'm looking for but it was also nice in a different non-offensive sweet smell to it. Yeah, I'm planning to do that but I'll probably buy 1ml testers of Bois Imperial and Mon Vetiver individually instead of the whole Essential Parfums discovery set.

Anyway, Terre d'Hermes, EdT and not the Parfum version, might be right up your alley. It's not that heavy on the citrus and maybe a bit more formal than Encre Noire. The other usual recs probably include Dior Homme 2020/Sport and maybe something less woody, but woody-spicy such as Costume Nationale Homme (I'd say impossible to find at offline stores, though).

Tl;dr it's a social and cultural construct. Arabs wear their heaviest ouds and roses in 40C heat. In the West, ambers, spices, incense and gourmand notes are associated with winter scents, and citruses and other fresh notes with summer scents. Roughly. Just trust your nose but also do not worry too much about it. I used to be fond of wearing LDDM in summer and was getting compliments for it. It doesn't matter that much as long as you don't overspray heavily.

Hi all no experience with cologne here except wearing what somebody gets me at xmas until next year. I want to pick a cologne I can identify with so I bought a sampler and spent a couple days testing them. Here are the notes-app impressions of an uninitiated on various popular (maybe just marketable, idk it's what they sent me) colognes. The rankings have to do with how much I like them. You'll notice I am avoiding powdery and (what smells to me) "perfumy" scents.

Azzaro Chrome Eau de Toilette, 0.04 oz.
2/5, perfumy, smells like fresh water

Azzaro The Most Wanted Parfum, 0.04 oz.
1/5 Very sweet and perfumy. If rubies could be fragrant.

Burberry Hero Eau de Toilette, 0.05 oz. CVV
3/5, it's the dad smell from Montblanc but with pepper and a little citrus fruit.

BVLGARI Man Rain Essence Eau de Parfum, 0.05 oz.
H, 4/5, not harsh, mature, reserved, actually gives me the impression of rain outside, tupperweather, unique from the others and a strong contender for a main.

Cartier Pasha Edition Noire Eau de Toilette, 0.06 oz
2/5, smells like suburban home and hotel mini body wash

DOLCE&GABBANA K Eau de Toilette, 0.05 oz.
2/5 smells generic and almost bad. Chalky soft floral fresh and sweet with some alcoholic harshness. But for some reason I can see myself wearing it.

Giorgio Armani Acqua di Giò Eau de Parfum, 0.04 oz.
H, 2/5, peppery but the rest of it is generic.

Givenchy Gentleman Society Eau de Parfum, 0.03 oz.
2/5 peppery and very perfumy, some vanilla, sweet

Hugo Boss BOSS Bottled Infinite Eau de Parfum, 0.05 oz.
2/5, very dad like and chalky, smells like popop a little.

Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme Eau de Toilette, 0.02 oz.
2/5, fresh, brighter, but perfumy, crisp not bold.

Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Eau de Toilette, 0.05 oz.
H, 1/5, weak smell, smells like baby powder, marker, and woman past a certain age.

Kenneth Cole Mankind Rise Eau de Toilette, 0.05 oz.
2/5 smells like Christmas.

Montblanc Explorer Eau de Parfum, 0.06 oz.
H, 4/5 Whoa, that's it, that smells like dad, that's the scent I identify with maturity, whatever is on top. Nice to have found it. It has that going for it which boosts it a lot to me, but I don't know if the rest of it is better than the other colognes.

Paco Rabanne 1 Million Eau de Toilette, 0.05 oz.
H, 3/5, bubblegummy, sweet, fresh, brighter, smells a bit perfumy though

Paco Rabanne Phantom Eau de Toilette, 0.05 oz.
H, 2/5

Prada Luna Rossa Ocean Eau de Toilette, 0.04 oz.
4/5 I think it smells like the graphic design, and that's good. It does smell ocean like, but also a tiny bit generic. Very fresh with something fruity. Bold though. Light chalk/talcum on my arm.

Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Parfum, 0.04 oz.
H, 3/5 very peppery, smells like a fresh bowl of fruit from a distance, woody, spicy, slightly perfumy.

Ralph Lauren Polo Red Eau de Toilette, 0.04 oz.
3/5, THIS is a soft perfume I like. It smells leathery, slight chalky, warm, and a little perfumy.

Ralph Lauren Ralph's Club Parfum, 0.04 oz.
Smells like fruity pebbles- so lots of bergamot.

Tumi Kinetic Eau de Parfum, 0.06 oz.
2/5 Omg, it smells like Tahoe from gradeschool.

Valentino Uomo Born In Roma Eau de Toilette, 0.04 oz.
H, 2/5, strong smells like sweet fruit and raspberry rock candy, a nightclub, playful sexy flirty, not my style though, very feminine.

Versace Eros Eau de Toilette, 0.03 oz.
H, 4/5, incredible, it is sweet and bold and it just descends on you heavily, little perfumy, like entering a thick, heavy cloud, it feels like getting tucked in with a weighted blanket.

Yves Saint Laurent Y Le Parfum, 0.04 oz.
H - 3/5

last but certaiy not least la vie del profumo castoreum
one ingredient, yet it's deeper and richer than a lot of modern fragrances. it starts off with that good ol animal funk with a bit of cheese, but it only lasts a few minutes. after that it becomes leathery, warm, maybe even damp leather. with slightly dirty fur on it. slowly, damp soil and woods appear in the mix and fade out again eventually. towards the end the leather is a little bit softer and there's a kind of airy quality to it, just the tiniest amount of something close to pine or something balsamic. all in all it's, well, an animal smell. but it's also warm/intimate and at the same time very masculine. disclaimer: my nose is a bit fucked so this is half from memory, YMMV.

oh those have atomizers? it usually does smell a bit different with the atomizer, but I can't imagine that'd make it better for you. I don't think it smells that dated and im really sensitive to that. The hay or oak moss or whatever does become dominant an hour in and matures it a bit, but the opening is amazing. Aziyade is like a cumin-y, dusty version of wazamba. is there a shipping cost to that? 5 on luckyscent would cost 20 dollars but there are no atomizers.

The other stuff is nice but certainly dupes of stuff, and not necessarily as quality as the original they base it off. They're also very much drug store tier and not that complex, exciting or unique. The Marbert Man Classic showergel is great, though, although it probably won't replace my JPS Gold. Most of them perform well enough for their price, though, which usually cannot be said of other drug store tier stuff. Classic is the first one to try and the other ones can be skipped unless you just find them at a store by chance or are really running out of stuff to test.

it's a really odd fragrance to describe, but I agree that it has something from Santal 33 (the weird pickle-like sandalwood) and something from Bois Imperial + a sweet fruity note. I guess that would be the fig. the typical aquatic marine accord is in there too, but balanced with the rest and not dominant
so a creamy, pickle-sandalwood aquatic with a sweet fig? odd fragrance. very strong performance though, much like the EDP and BI.

I don't like darker and heavy smell like my Encre Noire if it's hot but they're good if the weather is on the colder side. Lighter brighter more "refreshing" and greener smell like in addition to woody smell (since I want woody fragrance) like Santal 33 for example makes them smell nice and not weird to my nose in hot weather. Not sure if this is the right way to go about it, but that's my thought process after liking and buying Encre Noire in the shop but feelt that the smell is a bit inappropriate when I'm outside in Summer.

Every article and video says to be conservative and hit the pulse points and neck/ throat and that's it. That scents should be discovered and not broadcasted. I don't douse myself in my fragrances but I'll also make sure to spray a bit on my waist or legs. I do a no no and rub my head with it as well (I'm shaved bald), especially if I know I'll be sitting for most of the night. When I decided to test A Whiff of Wafflecone I expected not to like it. Turns out I was right, but not as convincingly as I had hoped. I came in thinking it was going to be goofy, obnoxious, and cloying. Turns out it was only one of those things, and only at the start. The staple note you get throughout is the salted caramel, which I thought was quite nice. At the beginning the vanilla sweetness mixed in made it just that extra step too far into being a bit too much for me, but that only lasted about an hour before the cinnamon and almond kick in and the sweet-nutty-spicy combo was actually quite good. More "candy store" than "ice cream parlor", I'd recommend this if you're into gourmand scents. Unfortunately I am not, but I can recognize they've got something going here. Three sprays lasted five hours, a decent showing.
All that's left now is Memoirs of a Trespasser and my final thoughts, both of which should be ready later tonight before I go on vacation.

I think Memoirs of a Trespasser has red pilled me on vanilla. Normally I find it distasteful, something about it is always too sickly sweet or awkward when combined with the other notes in the frags I've tried. This actually keeps the vanilla pretty mellow and blends it with the guaiacwood and oak to create a kind of roasted marshmallow smell that I find rather enjoyable. A bitter undercurrent runs beneath it as well from the myrrh and ambrette and it keeps the whole thing grounded. Overall, I really liked it and it has made me consider the versatility of vanilla a lot more. Lasts long too, 3 sprays had me going for about 7 hours. I recommend it fully.

Lasts even longer on clothes, although it doesn't project that strong. I spray it on my scarf in the winter. But in all honesty there isn't any point in chasing other vanilla scents because most others do it wrong and very different from Memoirs. Dusty and dry, mixed with wood is something most mainstream frags have missed so far. Probably because it's so cheap to just mix vanilla with ethyl maltol and get something out of it. In any case, if you haven't tried Eau des Baux yet, it's the only one that I consider somewhat close to Memoirs and even that one is sweeter than Memoirs.

>>17737207
Spicebomb used to be great but the performance is dead now. That was it's actual main purpose, so now it's superfluous. TdH Parfum is worse than TdH, which I already don't like. NYI is probably hit or miss, but I feel like it easily grows on people the more they get there noses on more fragrances. What made you order these fragrances?

Reserve Privee.
Boisee was kinda weak and not too different from Gentleman EdP, L'Homme was weak as well, haven't smelled Bleu Noir. It's very interesting to see how people swoon over Boisee, which is certainly worse than the Gentleman EdP and barely changes it up. Reserve Privee at least takes away some iris and adds the ambiguous "amber" as well as something nutty.

Okay, definitive IA tier list coming through

>The Soft Lawn, Whispered Myths, A City On Fire, Cape Heartache, Memoirs Of A Trespasser
These are the scents I would purchase a full bottle of in a heartbeat, these five are the most unique, interesting, and generally agreeable frags in the collection. Safe blind buys.

>Saint Julep, Yesterday Haze, In Love With Everything, O Unknown
These ones are all good, but there's something about each of them that keeps them out of the top tier, like being too feminine or some bizarre notes that don't fit quite right. Still recommend, but hesitantly.

>Whiff of Waffle Cone, Fox In The Flowerbed, Every Storm A Serenade, Falling Into The Sea, Sundrunk
These are the frags I thought were kind of lame but did not actively offend me. I would caution against buying any of these, definitely at least sample first.

>Slow Explosions, Telegrama, The Cobra And The Canary
These three are dogshit, and all remaining bottles of them should be thrown into the sun. Basically zero redeeming qualities to any of these deeply unpleasant fragrances.

Hopefully this can provide some guidance to anyone looking for a good IA fragrance

>Man Eau Fraiche
is alright if you want something really fresh and modern. very safe and hard to dislike blend of clean fresh notes into a whole that just smells like cleanliness. better than VPH. definitely not for you if you want to stand out and smell unique. I know the Gay Dragon likes it though
>L'Homme Ideal EDP
if you like this type of sweet gourmandish "cold weather sexy" modern fragrance, this is one of the better ones out there
>Bleu Noir
I don't respect it. they discontinued a great, original fragrance just to release a "flanker" that's simply an Ellena knock-off. just get TdH or Declaration, don't reward this disappointing behaviour
>Voyage d'Hermes Parfum
an underrated fragrance in the Hermes range. if you want a fresh, soft summer take on cardamom and juniper, this is a very good one. really easy to like

It's insane how much compliments mean to men, meanwhile women get them so often they're annoyed by them.
I have a couple different frags, this being one. I like it, it's my office cologne. I've gotten tons of compliments on it. I once wore it while I went to the hospital to give blood, and I heard a nurse who took my info at the counter in the other room go "where is he? Where is he at?" and then she pops through the curtain and goes "Excuse me? What cologne are you wearing?" and I told her and she's like "Thank you I'm gonna buy that for my boyfriend you smell great!"
