>But what if I want a mechanical watch, not a quartz?

Why would you want it? The only thing a mechanical offers over a quartz is smaller second hand steps. But Spring drive beats that.
Spring drive like a hybrid car, not full electric. It doesn't use a rechargable battery which would eventually die like a solar Citizen, but rather a rotor and a spring to generate it's own electricity for the quartz regulator.

It's 80% mechanical minus the escapement, it's literally called SPRING drive. and while we appreciate the neat watchmaking artistry, how can you not appreciate the revolutionary breakthrough that enhances every aspect of the watch including the smoothness.

I'm almost ready to buy the Breguet 5177 (see attached picture), but I'm concerned that it might look too large on my small ~16mm wrist.

I've got 16cm wrists as well, albeit pretty flat, and the 38mm Classique Ultra Slim looked gigantic. It's not the case size. It's the size of the dial that is the problem.

Perhaps Something like the 8787 (picrel) which is 36mm. It still has the enamel dial, but also has a little more going on so it will appear a little smaller. I, personally, like the classic pocket watch architecture of the movement but I recognize it's not everyone cup of tea.

The ALS Saxonia Thin comes in 37mm but that's pushing it in terms of size.

Perhaps you could try some non-round watches. For example,

The Seamaster 300...I'm going to give it another year before deciding whether to move on. It's been incredibly accurate, it's got great lume, and it's very comfortable (take note, Omega, people like thin, tapered bracelets).

I don't know if I'd get a Cartier. None of their lineup really speaks to me right now.

My wrist is 17cm, flat profile.

It just sort of happened. I didn't look to tick boxed off a checklist like "dress watch, field watch, dive watch, chronograph".

I tend to lean towards dressier watches because when I'm doing anything sporty I have a Garmin GPS tracker.

The blue Omega was my first watch. High school graduation gift.
The Reverso came next. I got that after graduated college and wanted a dressier watch.
After that came the Rolex or the Piaget, I can't remember. I spent a lot of time buying and flipping watches in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
I bought the Hometime in the late 2000s, sold it to a friend and then bought it back.

Then the Seamaster 300 was purchased last year because I fell in love with the looks but I'm slowly getting tired of it because I like dressier watches.

They already recommended you a g-shock, those are marketed on robustness, and are supposedly unkillable.

You can also get a regular digital casio they are thin, light, comfortable and can take a beating and if you break it you wouldn't cry about it.

Orient, Seiko and Citizen also have ranges of what's called "field watch" a military style comfortable and legible watches, not too fancy but rather utilitarian and the numbers glow in the dark.

OK, cool. Mea culpa.
Shitting on each other is common in my culture. (We call it bantering) but I know that doesn't fly in the same way with Latin cultures. You guys are big on "respeto" and all that. Talking shit has different rules and all.

You, me, Hamiltondrunk (when he gets out of rehab) and vintage chrono anon, we need to stick together. Without us, this thread will be completely devoid of watch pics (even if your pics are shitty and repetitive. :^)

They are really fun clocks to own. I have one in my office and one in my house. (The "Royale" in the right, is in the office.) They aren't really that expensive either, less than 5k.

If you decide to buy one, you'll adore it. A few tips:
1. Make sure the one you buy has an untouched hairspring. And I mean UNTOUCHED. (Picrel) Sadly, over the years people tend to mess around with the clocks and more often that not they damage the spring, either by not fixing the weight before transporting it or by playing with the weight itself.
2. Once you buy it, take it to a watchmaker that knows how to work with them and ask to have the gas capsule refilled.
3. Never buy one new. They're too expensive. Hunt for a used one in pristine condition. There are some around.
4. Find a place near a wall that experiences temperature changes during the day. That's all you'll need.
5. Enjoy it. They are awesome.

It's not a real world timer though, the ring with the cities is fixed. The Patek 2523 (launched in the 1950s and considered as the first Worldtimer) had a similar movement as the Omega, but also had a simple mechanism to rotate the bezel with the crown on the left, making it a functional Worldtimer.

This Omega is a perfect example of dishonest watchmaking. Also there's no valid justification for its grotesque dimensions (43mm wide and 15mm thick). What a joke of a brand...

I don't understand why some companies put comically small date windows on their watches. It's like they designed the watch to have a cyclops and forgot to put it on.

I don't know, but grandpa seems like a real gentleman.
I really like TGV, but it's kind of a Larper, which is a lot of fun. He wants to be at the same time a character from the sopranos, a British aristocrat, an elegant and sophisticated guy like Hannibla Lecter, a kind of lover of military aesthetics. you only have to see the TGV apartment to realize how chaotic he is.

Be careful about mentioning militaria shit here anon. If you mention guns the libtards will start screeching and we'll be able to hear it all the way from their gated communities.
