I enjoy a lot of things anon.
I've watched Avatar 2 last week-end and I've enjoyed it quite a lot, but you won't see me wearing a fucking Na'vi t-shirt because I know I would look like a grotesque manchild in it. At my age, I look better in oxford shirts.

It's convention to make chronos look as if they were designed by a spastic with distracting shit everywhere because no one actually uses the function.
If you just want something stark and legible like these there's also the stuff Sinn has.
Layout's going to be different, but the legibility is still there.

Looking for a new watch, preferably under 3000 and something vintage because at this point my watch is the cheapest thing I wear every day.

Was thinking a vintage Omega or Jaeger. But I've seen some Pateks floating around that 4000 mark. I know these are all very different, but I'm looking maybe for a brand that is less well known but has just as prestigious/good craftsmanship.

the Chopard has the better movement and also has a classic look. The Octo is polarizing to say the least.
I've known two people who've bought an Octo. Both of them were totally in love with their watches for the first month, both sold theirs within six months.

Bulgari's movements are starting to really become well-engineered, though their finishing still leaves something to be desired. Their designs, however, are terrible. They're edgy for edginess' sake in an attempt to stick out in a crowded market by looking weird. Just one of Genta's throwaway designs.
They haven't had a true breakthrough model since the Bvlgari Bvlgari and that came out decades ago (and is now irrelevant.)

vintage omega has some nice stuff
constellation (pie pan) dial can be had for around $2000-2500 but the prices are going up
deville (and seamaster deville) are pretty good, just be wary a lot of them have been re-dialed because the 166.020 was on mad men but sometimes you can find a 70s deville with the 1012 movement rather inexpensively
the previous generation SMPs (2531.80 and 2254.50) can be had for a good price

if you like the look of the ellipse you can go with the universal geneve white shadow; gerald genta designed both watches and the brand is no longer around (they were big in the 60s/70s) but they were quality

Would you buy a Rolex off someone selling on the Rolex Forum?
Not necessarily one of the mass dealers like DavidSW, I'm talking basically like TRF equiv of chrono24's "private seller"? A known entity, regular poster type with enough post history etc., not to be immediately discounted by default.
The ref and combination I've always wanted was discontinued a couple of years ago and though not exactly rare, it's not your standard sub/daytona/dj etc., that can be found en masse on chrono24. Every so often on shows up on TRF sales section though.
Perhaps I should just contact a used dealer, get them to source one.
Anyone done that with any brand before?

Maybe the haters don't like accuracy. They hate those who like things.
I like my Casio WV-59:
Those who have the wrong opinions are the real poorfags, no doubt because they can't afford even a cheaper watch, they can't or daren't prove otherwise; notice they never show evidence with just a photo of said 'better' watch on their wrist and a note with the date & 'Sup /fa/'...?!

I have the limited edition polar 1969 recreation. Same price to buy the actual vintage one but I wanted a fresh one without the jank and hassle of tracking one down not to mention functional lume. I really like it.
Worth it? I enjoy it. Buying a 1970's watch today NOS made on the same machines, same movement and even with the same old bird working on them in the factory was a nice novelty, but novelty it was.
I really wanted a 36mm mechanical 24hr watch. 40mm etc., are readily available but I have many so really you have to go vintage for smaller sizes.
I like the idea of Raketa. Like Vostok they even make their own hairsprings, but they have a way to go before they can really compete in the same price range beyond novelty factor alone. No issues with QC or accuracy or customer service.
