1. Casio severely underrates their battery life. It's better to have someone get 5 years out of a 3 year battery than get exactly 3.
2. The rating is based on usage, usually 1 alarm a day and one press of the light button. If you don't use those features every day it can last much longer.
3. It's not invulnerable. I bought an old G-Shock that probably hadn't had a battery change in over a decade and it died because I use all the features almost daily.

The chronographs look disgusting and TAG Heuer tier (especially those with the racing tires looking straps).
Their are some nice things in the LUC line if you like dressy stuff, but then again they're in the PP/VC cope territory (also why not get a JLC for that price?).

Patek

I think ALS has the most cohesive design language (alongside Rolex) but the only watch that truly does something for me is the Saxonia Moonphase.

And I like JLC because I have a soft spot for the Reverso Duoface and some vintage models, but I hate the direction they've taken the last 2 decades.

In the high horology micro brands, Laurent Ferrier mogs everyone else (FP Journe can suck my dick).

I think I was the one that broke their payment processor.
I ordered a 420 Amphibian at 4 in the morning, and the next day my bank calls me and says they blocked my card due to a "risky" transaction.
I explained that it was, in fact, I who ordered a watch and that they should fuck off. They said ok.
The next day I remembered a wanted to order a clean bezel, so I went to Meranom and saw the error message saying they are having problems with their payment processor.

I suppose there's nothing to do but wait for them to fix it, or get a Russian card.

Like all quartz, it lasts forever and likely keeps better time now than it did 40 years ago. Some early electronic watches are a pain in the dick because the coils fail, but aside from a retard leaving a battery in the watch and killing it, there's not much that can go wrong with quartz. Plus all the popular watches tend to share movements with really cheap ugly watches you can buy for next to nothing if something ever does fail.

Basically I want a 34-36mm case, not more than 10mm thick, but preferably even thinner; I want a basic quartz movement, lumed dauphine hands, and a white/cream/silver dial with non-numerals indices (with at least some lume on them).

From the dimensions you can usually work out how big the dial is based on the assumption that it's slightly wider than the exposed area. For a 34-36mm watch, I'd expect a dial around the 28mm mark, and worst case you can always cut one down a bit to fit, although the minute marks might get cut off a little.

As for cutting down a dial, it's easy enough, you have to remember the dial is bigger than what you can see. Usually about half a mm or so. If you're cutting into that region, you're not going to see it when you put it in the case.

After the GFC in 08 the only luxury goods segment that grew in the intervening years, not just "did relatively well compared with other luxury goods or rest of the economy" I mean actually did better, was the watch segment. Does that mean the same thing will happen this time around?
All the people flush with cash and hyped up on instagram-fueled envy and fomo that have caused this insane market are probably the same people that would be extra screwed if things go bad.
But you never know.

Buzz Aldrin's Omega Speedmaster was the first timepiece on the Moon. Returning to Earth, it was later lost. The most valuable watch in existence, certainly the most expensive in terms of what it took to be so vital a wrist chronometer, how, and where, above all: for whom.
My previous Casio WV-59 stopped working, I simply ordered another (with a rubber strap) from a seller on eBay, and a bracelet to replace that from a seller in Germany.
Can you replace your exact same watch so easily & cheaply?
My WV-59 still keeps perfect time, can your Rolex do the same? Nice piece of jewellery you have there, shame if something happened to it.

It's not shit but it's really not great either. Typically the kind of watch you grow tired of very fast.
One of my main complain with Omega is their inability to come up with a timeless design. It's a brand that follows trends, not define them. I put them in the same category as TAG Heuer or Breitling for that reason.
Pretty much all of their watches (except the Speedmaster) look kind of dated to me. The Aqua Terra has that 2000s vibe that makes it look already outdated and borderline ugly.
