Jul et Mad: Aqua Sextius
Amazing aquatic that smells natural and has a musky fig backbone, remains airy even in high heat and humidity, lasts forever and doesn't really smell like any other aquatic I've encountered.
I'm normally not an aquatic fan. I love AdG Profumo, Issey Miyake Pour Homme, D&G Italian Love( is this still an aquatic?) and Bvlgari Aqua Marine, that's really about it. I'd throw in Comptoir Sud Pacifique Mage D'Orient in there but that feels more like just the beach itself, no water. Sextius is different from anything I've worn so far, I'm really surprised it doesn't get much discussion anywhere. I figured it's a price issue but with costs of things like Sauvage Elixir and BdC Parfum creeping up it's not bad, and for a niche offering it's very fair.
Highly recommend sampling it.

A surprisingly floral bright citrus amber scent. Veers between dated and timeless, for me it's slightly too heavy for the summer which is where a fragrance like this traditionally shines, and it's too anemic for cold weather.
The EDP is thicker/denser but works great in cold weather. I own the EDP, I prefer the smell of the EDT but I wear the EDP more often.

>>17683945
Fuck no, get that dumb shit outta here. The core idea of your sentence veers into "Huuurrrrrr this frag will get you laid! Spray this on to get your cock SUCKED" very quickly and it's why YouTube (((reviewers))) hype so much trash.
An ugly women wearing nice perfume will be an ugly woman who smells great and is still ugly. I appreciate and encourage this because people should still smell good, but I won't fuck her simply due to how she smells.
I will fuck her because I'm horny and have no standards.

Sold, buying a bottle

And before you go b-b-but what do WAMYN like, allow me to retort: Doesn't matter. Women will like whatever a strong enough man convinces them to like. This isn't some half assed alpha male philosophy, this is reality.
A test for you: Do you have a girlfriend who is completely in to you, maybe even in love with you? Get a sample, spray it on and tell her "Hey honey smell this, it's amazing! I want to buy a bottle!" She will agree with you and she will love it too. She may have hated it on anyone else, but if you like it, she will like it.

As a man do you have a friend who looks up to you for guidance and who loves you like a big brother? Same test, same result.

I've been with my girlfriend for years now. She now somehow has my taste in movies, music, food, etc. Seen the same thing with my friends when they're with women who love them. It's not something you aim to do, it just happens.

If she tells you she doesn't like it, she doesn't love you.

While this may be common, those types of relationships also unravel once the reason to mimic fades. Because there was nothing to begin with.

>> No.17684432

>>17684428
I agree with you to a certain extent, in some cases it's mimicry, in many other cases it goes much deeper and I think it boils down to the raw biology of certain people need to lead, others to follow.

Look at how the general public is programmed to become more tolerant of certain ideas. If you went back in time 25 years and told the average person that American hating Muslims are in the US government, blacks are allowed to riot and burn down cities without interfering when a cop kills one while they resist arrest, GOP politicians rant about Jewish space lasers, crisis actors and how good Putin is, and people elected Donald Trump who proceeded to try and sell out the country, have a half assed coup and now run for reelection they'd laugh in your face and tell you that you were making shit up. 2023 would be a nightmare clown world to them, now it's normal. You find that same person today and the odds are they'll have a BLM sticker on their car or a MAGA hat on and call themselves an independent thinker.
People want to feel safe and provided for, in exchange they are more than willing to give up part of their individuality and critical thinking to do it. The relationship between two people in love is just a scaled down relationship of people to government, because there needs to be a leader and provider in both.

You're as contrarian as I am, just on a different side. Think about it, you're defending $8 dollar knock off body spray, literal Walmart tier as a viable option simply because you don't like someone loudly disagreeing with you. Fragrance after a certain point is impossible to rate objectively, I could say something is a 10/10 and you could say 7 and we'd both be "right". But below a certain quality point? Shit is shit and I'm not going to sit here and jerk some dude off and pat his head and tell him it's ok to like it. I know what I am, I don't think you can say the same yet.

>>17683945
Science suggests that personal scent preference depends on your major histocompatibility complex and is used to project your own immunological locus. Therefore, if an "ugly" girl smells nice to you, it might be possible that you and her would create immunologically improved offspring and as such your body will develop a desire for her. This is also why people who are initially ugly to us sometimes become less ugly - we can smell them and find out that they are actually compatible.
Also, this means that if you really like a fragrance, you can wear it, whether it's a "crowdpleaser" or not. If a girl says she doesn't like your smell, she ain't the one unless you want immunologically compromised children.

That's a bit cynical, but I do see your point. And often people will be sincerely influenced, not just mimic - same shit happens in cults.

However, ending up in relationships where it existing is entirely based on the balance of power (i.e. the man having dominance) does also result in hell of a lot of weight on the man. And I'd say that is how you get those much higher suicide rates, alcoholism & other crap.

Women are raised to be unproblematic, men are raised to not have emotions & be weak. Neither makes for very happy people, on its' own. I've got several friends crash through relationships with "easy to impress" women, spectacularly.

Platinum Egoiste. Other than that, good luck. The search for the one signature frag to rule them all is a long and tedious one. I'd usually say New York Intense, but sometimes I feel like it's too challenging to normalfag noses.

I might be saying something retarded here; but isn't it the same scent DNA as Fierce, Legend and Percival?

Nah, you're right about that. Percival is probably the longest lasting of them and is quite refined, but obviously pricey. Legend (EdP) is kinda fruitier in a way, without being fruity. Fierce brought this whole DNA to the mainstream and made it popular, but it's kinda dead formulation-wise. Smells good to most people, as they all do. Other similar DNA can be found in Bentley for Men Black Edition (like Legend EdP, but way fruitier, by a lot), At the Barber's (lots of rosemary and lavender, muted geranium, more musk) and obviously in CK Eternity for Men, which is kinda the OG of this DNA.
PE is the best of them, in my opinion, just based on scent.

>> No.17684785

>>17684783
The issue with all these frags in my experience is that the longevity tends to be poor, except for Percival. But PE, Legend, and Fierce itself don't last long.
It's a fucking shame though, I remember buying Fierce around 2014 and back then it was fucking strong as shit and man the smell was great. Now apparently they reformulated it so it lasts about as long as an EDC and the scent itself is also changed, allegedly

My most effective cologne for attracting women is Dior Declaration. I've had women walk across an entire building from one side to the other just so they could tell me I smelled amazing and so they could bury their face in my neck to get a wiff. They have no idea what it is because most guys only get typical colognes. This makes you stand out.

A side note, I used to have a cat who hated cologne, but I'd put this on and she'd sniff me and when she could she'd roll around in my old clothes that still had the cologne on them because it smelled so good.

Thierry Mugler perfume like Angel are god awful and probably the worse perfumes women buy. They are overpoweringly vile at how sweet and flowery they are. I used to shop at a store that sold a lot of perfumes and cologne and a sales woman explained how bad they were and how she hates selling them because they are too strong and too sweet. When she let me smell them I now had a name for the crap I kept smelling on women. That shit is too damn strong.

Don't waste your money on cheap Wal-Mart stuff. There are actually very very good knock offs from companies like Reyane. About 6-7 years ago I bought three of their colognes for about 20 bucks each which were almost exact replicas of expensive colognes like Creed Aventus. Which was crazy because Creed is like $250 bucks a bottle I almost couldn't tell the difference between the two. There are a few knockoff brands you can find online which are about as good as the name brand colognes. Look at reviews and you can have some pretty decent colognes for not alot of money.

A)
>A classically fresh, citrusy-spicy eau de toilette inspired by a sunlit stroll through a blossoming Mediterranean orange grove. Discreet and exhilarating, it invites you to immerse yourself in an endless summer - the blue Mediterranean Sea on the horizon, sparkling sunshine, cheerfulness. The exclusive composition of citrus fruits such as bitter orange, bergamot and petitgrain in combination with delicate lavender notes on the spicy-woody base of a hint of patchouli and cedar wood gives the eau de toilette its very special, clear character.
>Scent: fresh, citrusy-spicy, Mediterranean
>Fragrance character: classic, subtle, refreshing
>Fragrance Notes: Bitter Orange, Bergamot, Neroli, Petitgrain, Lavender, Patchouli, Cedarwood

B)
>A pleasantly warm, spicy, aphrodisiac eau de toilette. The inspiration for the fragrance is based on the image of the metropolis Paris at the Belle Époque as a pulsating center of sensory impressions and savoir-vivre. Delicate, carefully coordinated lavender varieties meet gentle aspects of vanilla, amber and pepper in this timelessly elegant premium perfume creation. A sensually soft bed of creamy tonka bean and sandalwood nuances completes the extraordinary fragrance experience.
>Scent: delicately spicy, powdery-warm
>Fragrance character: well-groomed, attractive, elegant, sensual
>Fragrance Notes: Lavender, Vanilla, Amber, Pepper, Tonka Bean, Sandalwood

C)
>A fresh, green-floral eau de toilette. It is reminiscent of walks through summer meadows and the unique smell of flowers, grass, wood and earth after the rain. The scent of summer grass blends harmoniously with delicate floral hints of jasmine and linden blossoms on a base of delicate vetiver and cedar wood notes.
>Scent: fresh-green, floral-spicy

Tried some samples today, here are my thoughts.

>Essential Parfums Orange X Santal
Not much to say. It's a nice and fresh orange/sandalwood scent. Doesn't last very long though and it's not exactly interesting.

>Nishane Safran Colognise
Fresh saffron and leather. Opens with citrus. A little fruity. Could even work in the spring or summer despite the leather. Good stuff.

>D'Orsay Dandy or not. G.A.
It's supposed to be tea and leather, which I do get. But it comes off as minty to me although there is no mint note listed. Not really a fan but it's another leather that would work in the summer.

Can someone with a grasp of chemistry or fragrance formulation in general help me understand what the fuck Creed does with Aventus?
For background, I started wearing Aventus in 2012, I've had bottles from 2011-2015 and decants of from 16-19. Obviously I haven't smelled every batch but I can observe trends from year to year like the neutering of the smoke notes, changes due to IFRA, etc. Performance out of the bottle was great till 2016 IMHO. Then it started getting inconsistent between batches till poor performance was the norm. Original Aventus lasted 12 to 24 hrs on me out of a new bottle, post 2016 I'd get 4 to 6 hrs. I still love the smell, but the trash performance and increase in price were enough to get me to walk away. For several years now I've been reading people swearing performance improved with maceration aka letting the bottle sit for months. I ended up buying a bottle from 2020, so it's aged three years. Projection is better than the last 2016 bottle I had, longevity is about on par. I'm inclined to agree with people, aging massively improves Aventus.

The question is: Why? What's going on with Aventus specifically that makes this happen? I've owned GIT, Royal Oud, Erolfa, Royal Mayfair, Virgin Island Water, Taborame Millisime, Spice and Wood and Green Valley. None of them changed anywhere near as dramatically over time as the Aventus. I can't say I've seen any fragrance improve over time even from other houses.
I know heat, light and air can degrade a fragrance, what causes improvements in performance?

I'm a huge fan of this frag and feel it's a 10/10 frag for me so I admit I'm biased but how can you say it isn't worth the price? It's $120 for 100ml, that's less than BDC Parfum and Dior Sauvage Elixir, and it's a far better fragrance than either of those.

A challenge for the general:

Pick five (5) fragrances that together, in your opinion, best capture the range of olfactory experiences perfumes can offer. Put differently, what 5 frags would best take someone from knowing nothing about perfumes to having a broad (albeit shallow) picture of what's possible. One approach could be to just pick one from some of the major fragrance groups, but try to focus more on the actual experience rather than any prior categorization. Bonus points for explaining your reasoning.

Also feel free to ignore considerations about seasons, masculine/feminine, contexts where it can be worn, etc. And don't pick a fragrance only for it's historically significant; the focus should purely be on smell.

How do my fellow chuddies cope with the fact that frags are full of parabens and phthalates that turn the frogs gay and make your cock smaller? They just smell so good though...

Nah, his nose is gay. Bois Imperial smells like photorealistic saw dust and mouthwatering peppery spices. The best niche woody scent out there.

Its a fucking discounter, they buy overstock unsold perfume from stores and sell it at clearance prices, that's their entire business model, they have tens of thousands of sales, it's not the same thing as some guy with five feedback selling bottles of sauvage for $45.

Somehow ended up on the Arab side of Fragrantica. A lot of these designers look pretty interesting. Most of the perfumes end up having one very strong scent, as opposed to a ton of development on the dry-down. Anybody have any favourites from the Arab world?
