Ugliest looking Rolex. I fucking hate it when these fags get bling bling watch. It’s too show offy and it makes you look cheap imo. It’s always the new money folks who buy this crap. The old money folks never wear shit like this, they always wear subtle, quality expensive watches and I respect that.

Talk about desperation.

Do I think so? No.
The watch itself would probably be fine, but I've reached the common point where I've realized that that whole segment of brands and models are not worth the money by any metric, being as they are an endless parade of generic knockoffs of costlier makes using the same basic internals all in a package made entirely in china but charging a price as if it were, nominally at least, made in switzerland. The cases and dials may change but they're all basically the same watch.

Either go cheap and practical like a Casio/Timex etc., or go high end. That massive middle range is a trap. I suggest you don't fall into it.
It's your money though.

WHAT IS THE JOB

A Vostok is a novelty thing rather than anything. You need more lume than that to be a good diver. You buy it if you think it's cool, or for a conversation.

I for one work in shifts, my week isn't monday to friday so I very much NEEED my watch to tell me what day of the week it is. When it isn't i get conversations like
>It will be on Tuesday
>so tomorrow?
>Dude it's Friday

if you actually want a diver watch they very often have just date or nothing.
If you buy an automatic-mechanical watch you will have to wear it the entire time because they stop when you don't, and even then if your lifestyle is sitting on your ass and playing videogames you may end up with it stopping on your wrist because you just don't move enough to drive it. If you have a normal job you probably move enough.

And don't be surprised if it loses 30 seconds a day, a mechanical watch losing single digit seconds is considered very good.

>because I like the aesthetic but I'm willing to compromise if theres something more practical for a better price.

A vostok is about the only real diver watch in 100$ price range. The only other one would be a quartz casio and some aliexpress nonames.

The 200$ price range is a lot more interesting, there's a lot of cool Seiko and Orient watches for 200$. If you want to spend 100$ you don't have many options.

They're not so much a lange ripoff. Actually, when you look at it GO is actually more genuine than lange. At least the former came out of the split up of the east german commie amalgamated watch works whereas lange sprung out of the mind of some opportunist kike.

How it was put in a /wt/ of old is that a lot of GO's earlier calibres were just tarted up east-german movements. Not necessarily bad, but not worth the effort. Think going full tarting up a seiko 7s26 or Vostok 24-, though those GDR calibres were probably a lot better overall.
Their newer stuff is better and not reliant on commiecope calibers I think.

He’s not only misleading, he’s blatantly incorrect. GUB was made up of the Glashutte watchmaking brands (including Lange). All their watches were dogshit until it was privatized in 90 then sold in 94, repurposed and sold to Swatch in 2000. GO literally sprang “out of the mind of some opportunist kike” who bought the tiny company, embraced “traditional watchmaking” and then almost immediately sold it to Swatch for a massive profit. The guy who made this savvy business decision is Heinz Pfeifer who would go on to become the Executive Director of EganaGoldpfeil Europe, a Hong Kong based luxury goods holding company. If you think their history isn’t just as made up as every other company I have a bridge to sell you.

Same goes for almost all luxury watch buyers of any brand. Sure there's going to be a tiny few that actually know enough in order to give a shit but those will buy from tiny independents who produce <100 watches a year. Minuscule. Patek sells maybe 50k? 28k a decade ago to 50+ now and they're still selling like hot cakes. Perhaps if you thrust a loupe into their hands and told them to look at the dust and machine marks they'd start to care. Even then I don't think many would truly care.
