what do you think of this? worth the $1,4k+?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7i1gTkZFsA

as nice as the handcarved insole may be, everything else seems so jank
backstay is rolled over the edge into the boot to completely shave your achilles tendon raw while wearing
that tongue design and actual execution is an absolute mess
the stitching is so wonky, because he goes so slow on the machine with such high SPI
completely massacres the uppers in the arches on the sanding belt (31:42), because the welt recessed so far back
this wouldn't pass as factory seconds for any established manufacturer

this goes for all the cobbler turned one man boutique shoe maker like role club and the indonesian/chinese instagram brands, they have absolutely no idea about designing a boot, the tolerances of the materials, it's basicly stretch leather over last and hope it's gonna work out somehow, no product testing
you are paying out the ass for someones "learn as you go" project
>i've resoled so many boots i basically can make them myself
also they can't afford to completely scrap a boot and start over for you if they mess up, they send you whatever they cobble together and hope you don't notice or don't mind enough to complain

That is just a picture I found, but I have these exact style boots. They're surplus US combat boots, you can find them online in a variety of sizes and conditions still. Usually 70s or 80s production. I can't tell exactly by the picture without looking at the sole, but Genesco and Ro-Search are the most common makers you can find. Look on ebay and they usually go between 80~150 usd depending on size and condition. Here is a picture of my Genescos.

yes, a split suede is when you separate the corium from the grain. With a full grain or reverse suede you get the full grain on the inside with the corium (suede side) outside, unliked with what you think of "roughout" the corium is just slightly buffed for a more even nap. Janus Calf is one example for a full grain suede.

reverse calf is what most people call it in my experience.
Very different from a split suede, and no where near the quality of a full grain leather, like reverse calf. When i think of rough-out i generally think of low grade or older animals, with the grainside out.

the best pair of boots I ever owned were Polo boots
I wear size 13 so it's not easy to find, but also not a popular size and would frequently go to sales
Also, my dad worked as a shoe salesman, so he could wait for the very best deals to come along and get employee discounts on top of whatever the sale price was
The boots he got me were easily $1000 boots in today's prices, but with the sale price, plus employee discounts, plus saved up store credits, he got them for something like $10
They were a textured red/caramel color with gold eyes/hooks and round two tone braided laces
They were so nice I could wear them with anything from jeans all the way up to a nice suit
Gay men would practically assult me to ask where I got my boots from and who made them
Not only that, they were SUPER comfortable, I've never had shoes of any kind that fit my foot like a glove the way those boots did.
It was a sad day when those boots wore out
These are not the boots, but the closest picture I can find to give you a rough idea of what mine looked like
Unlike the pic, the eyes at the bottom, hooks at the top were gold/brass in color, the laces were two tone brick/wheat, the leather was textured and just thick/firm enough that it wouldn't collapse when you took them off
they were soooo fucking nice
I would gladly pay $2000 for another pair like that, but I've never been able to find another pair of boots that even come close

Some time in the next year or 2, I'd like to buy a nice pair of boots to wear for the next 20 years

All I want is a nice, clean profiled, versatile, high quality boot. I'm not trying to LARP as some outdoorsman or laborer, but just want a nice service boot-look that I can wear anywhere

>Viberg 2030
or
>White's MP-Sherman/MP-M1/MP-M1TC

Which would be the better option? Are there others I should consider? I owned a pair of Vibergs like 10 years ago that I purchased secondhand but I never really loved them. Dont remember the model. But as I'm looking into this more, I seem to think that Vibergs may be better than Whites given the Vibergs appears to be a bit more refined/"classier" than the Whites

Also, can someone explain the difference between White's MP-Sherman/MP-M1/MP-M1TC? Besides the sole and plain/cap-toe configurations, the only thing I can discern is that the Sherman is a 2-piece backstay, whereas the MP-M1s are a single-piece backstay. But then what's the difference between MP-M1 and MP-M1TC?
And are there any practical difference between single and 2-piece backstays?

That's wide enough. If there's enough space at the front of the toe with the current pair you got so that the reduction by 1cm doesn't cause problems for your toes then go for it. You can try measuring the length of the footbed and compare that to the length of your feet to make it double sure.

>> No.17684479

In my opinion no

Oxfords ideally go with a full suit, at the very least an outfit involving a jacket.

If I worked in a place where I had to wear a suit all the time I'd buy more oxfords, but right now I only ever wear my black captoe oxfords for like weddings and shit like that. Occasionally a meeting that requires a suit.
My second pair of oxfords get almost no use at all. I wear a lot more my suede PTBs and split toes in the office every day.

it can be pulled off, but most of the time it looks really smart casual douchey

cuffing actually looks better than having it be too long

Don't do it. Buy a pair of derbies instead. Oxfords are really for suits, or at their most casual, odd wool trousers that you might wear with a sports coat.

Derbies all year
Loafers in summer
Chukkas in winter

Wear with more casual trousers like chinos, maybe grey wool/flannel pants in winter and the occasional cotton/linen mix (or white denim) in summer.
You can't go wrong. Doesn't look too formal or out place anywhere.

It's hard to dress up jeans and it's hard to dress down oxfords.
