I've settled on making the DW002 white like pic related. I found white strap adapters for it as well and will put it on a white band of sorts. The little stabilizer wings on the sides of the strap will be red. Only trouble is I can't find a white case back and I'm not certain which color to get

I think it's really cool functionally how it has a discrete perpetual calendar and you control the watch's functions with the bezel, but it's 42mm in diameter and 14mm thick and a little cumbersome and complicated for what it does. It's a lot cheaper and easier and probably better to just use a regular GMT with a date wheel. But I wonder how much thinner they could make it if they dropped the calendar and made it basically a datejust with a GMT wheel. Could they get it down to 40mm diameter 12mm thick?

But even so, it's done in such a discrete and smart way that it doesn't take away from or obstruct anything on the dial to the point where I don't think most people who look at it even realize that feature is there. i've owned the aerospace in the past, and currently own the x-33 skywalker. totally different feel for both. aerospace is near perfect but i got tired of the monopusher design because operating the watch is a pain with the crown alone, but it's definitely easier to wear and it looks good with anything.

the x-33 is a thick boy but not as much as you think. my skywalker is 14.7mm thick, but the lug to lug is 48mm which makes it very compact (it feels like a Tudor or Sinn on your wrist). all in all i prefer the x-33 because i do in fact make use of all the features and in terms of functionality, it's probably the easiest watch to set/configure out of any i've ever owned.

backlight is great on both aerospace and x-33 (and the aerospace is night vision goggle compatible if you need that for w/e reason).

x-33 is the king of alarms though. the alarm chime is 80 decibel's loud. it's designed to be heard while riding space rockets and such.

fyi, Omega has an X-33 app in the iOS store that you can download to simulate the X-33 functions on your phone/ipad so you can try it out if you're curious to see how it works.

So now i think the extra loud alarm easier learn manipulation of the X33 might take the edge. I still use gloves often and work in noisy environments. And i do have to sleep with earplugs every now and then.

My current collection. Not pictured is a 90s 36mm Datejust. I'm feeling the need to consolidate before I purchase another watch. I'll definitely sell the Panerai, the Nomos, the Rolex, and maybe the 1861 Speedmaster and the Tank. I've accumulated these slowly over the last 10 years or so and my tastes have changed quite a bit. Any suggestions for my next watch? I'm currently considering a platinum or white gold Datograph, a Zeitwerk, a Moser perpetual calendar, a Patek perpetual calendar or Patek 5170, or something from Laurent Ferrier or Gronefeld.

I'd look at moser first myself. One of the only watchmakers out there that actually produces their own hairsprings, among other things. They come off as not taking themselves too seriously except when it comes to the finishing of their watches, which is pretty nice.

The modern ones are a lot better. Mine was from ~2014 when they were still finding their footing with mechanical movements and uses a Piaget 430. Great ultra thin movement but the case is way oversized. Modern ones are more proportionate and better looking IMO.

If I got offered a GMT at retail I'd seriously consider purchasing it but that's about it. The Rolex spell got broken for me when I tried on a Blancpain 5015 in person and found it hugely impressive in comparison to every Rolex I'd ever handled (and I've handled quite a few). It's a moot point anyway because I'm never going to play their AD games or pay grey market prices, I don't want one that badly.

Depends on the AD.
Some ADs have a queue ranked by time, others queue ranked by customer priority. i.e. the regular customers whom they want to retain.

So, for those ADs, when a Daytona comes in they don't look at who's been waiting longest, they look at who among their regular customers, has asked for a Daytona and they start going down the list that way.

Ironically enough, the only way to tell which method your AD uses is to be a customer long enough to have ended up on the high-priority queue either way.

Nah, those are produced in such large quantities that it doesn't matter, unless, in the case of the Datejust you want a particularly rare dial and bracelet combination.
The general consensus is that, if they don't have any in stock, they'll have more in about 4 to 8 weeks.

It's a funny complication because you will probably be asleep when it happens anyway and it makes the dial extremely cluttered, but I think that's part of the charm. I'm planning on getting a Cartier Santos from the nearby AD in the next few weeks but have only ever bought watches online. I went in and had a good experience trying on watches / talking to the floor people but I have no idea what to expect from the buying experience.

In day to day use a g-shock and a regular digital Casio are just as durable. The G-Shock is designed and tested for extreme cases that usually don't happen in regular use like dropping it from very high distances and scrapping it against concrete or explosions. The moving parts are usually able to freeze in place and then readjust themselves to avoid damage. There are a lot of little features that add up to improved durability. For example everyone hates the huge counterbalance on the hands but that is to reduce centrifugal force and make the hands balanced.

True GMT aren't exactly about the number of hands, but rather than the main hand can jump to adjust to local time while still related to the date window, efectively showing both current time and date where the user is.
In the UN the left pushers control the central hour hand and can operate it up and down and the big date jumps accordingly. Hometime is the window at nine and neither of the jumps affects the seconds hand, keeping it evey accurate.

I have some more traditional GMT with the classical 3 hands system, but imho Ludwig Oechslin's solution is more accurate and intelligent.

Besides being very reliable, for a lot of years Ludwig Oechslin's solution was the only available option that produced perpetual calendars that could be set back in any moment, even at february 28, during the watch's date changing lapse. I own the GMB2100 and as much as I want to love it, it's too big at 47mm and despite willing to deal with that, I realized I can't seem to enjoy owning a watch that isn't a high beat anymore.

Worse still, I can't return it since I got a noticeable scratch on it after it lost from a light knock against a wardrobe.

Regret came fast, a modded Casioak would've been less painful.

Maybe a year or so ago, but that may change after Pewdiepie got himself a GS Snowflake and showed it off off stream, now they're going for an Omiwatari or a Snowflake as well now that GS is on their radar.

A classic size 36mm skydweller, or 37 or even 38 would be grand. At 42 or whatever it's too large.

At 36, the dial would be way too crowded and the watch would be illegible. Plus, I don't think they could shrink the movement down to that size.
38mm or pre-Maxi Case 40mm would be fine.

The current 42mm (which wears large like all Rolexes) is made worse by the fact it's 14mm thick!

I never had issues with the resin ones, but the basic bitch plastic straps definitely break too fast, that's true. I always had to replace them with aftermarket straps.

if you have a large wrist, yes, it's the closest thing to a smartwatch without resulting to a smartwatch while still looking cool as fuck at the same time. I love the features, especially the find your phone one. Everything else is your standard Casio fare(worldtime, alarm, timer, etc).

If you've got a small wrist though, it's a no go, it's just too big at 47mm. I've also noted how the deeper I got into mechanical watches, the more I seek out high beat watches specifically, and if you're looking for that, you won't find that here since there's no seconds hand, seconds progression is displayed on the LCD instead.

I really believe they could probably get it down to 40mm and 12mm thick by just cutting the annual calendar. They could probably just cover the 24 hour wheel except for a window at the top since there's no point in looking at a bunch of upside down numbers that don't mean anything at the moment and they wouldn't have to have 3 or 4 different sizes of indicies on the same watch.
