because they genuinely produce nothing but cap toe oxfords and monk straps, majority of them in black
a legacy brand with name recognition for being expensive, the lasts and designs are classic, timeless and rather understated, perfect for someone that actually dresses up for work
although their reputation is somewhat cheapened by their shity sneaker line

the majority of dress shoe "enthusiasts" online don't like that
they prefer loud and ostentacious, because they are just modern dandies that just show off and don't really have any occasion for dressing up
they try to make these dress shoes more "versitile" and casual by opting for showy patterns and weird color choices
most of them wear them with denim
pretty much the standard for them is ultra long chisel toe lasts with split toes in anything but black
they generally don't care for Lobb, but "recognize the craftsmanship" or just straight up look down on them for not being hipster enough

I recently bought smokes a couple months ago. Never had a boot with a high arch before, so it was a shock at first. The first week is a tough break in, because it is a stiff arch. After the first week, its pretty much broken in. It takes a couple weeks for the upper to break in and it has a tendency to pinch or bite the front of your ankle. My brothers boots came out better than mine after their first shine. I work in a moist environment and have a darker hue on the toe area. Not bad for being made in chinkland.

I wear them nearly everyday and I’m on my feet a lot. Took a bit to get used to such a heavy boot, but now I don’t notice it at all. When they are on my feet it’s easy to forget about the high arch. In terms of comfort, I wouldn’t say they are the most comfortable, but that really depends on what you’re looking for. I wanted a durable work boot that I could also take on long hikes and not destroy my feet. On the hikes I’ve taken them on, I’ve had zero chafing and zero blisters. So they are comfortable in that sense.

some interesting specs
