Im tempted to grab a pair but i know the denim is nothing special, anyone have recommendations for a similar cut black jean made with some more exciting fabric? Black warp x black weft or black warp with white weft are both fine.

Interrupting the discussion with an ignorant question, but does raw denim get that much more comfortable with wear? I squat and deadlift a decent amount, so my thighs and glutes are larger relative to my waist. I've tried left field's atlas jeans which are supposed to be an athletic fit, but even after a couple months of wear they still felt uncomfortable relative to stuff like 100% cotton chinos.

Ya gotta get some wear on em

>> No.17638927

>>17638919
What about them is uncomfortable? The feel of the fabic on your skin or the fit and range of motion? They usually are really heavily starched when you get them and soften up after you wash them. If it's fit related you can do a bunch of squats in them to strech em out some, but the fit wont change massively over time.
Wash em inside out, no spin cycle, take em out, roll em up in a towel and squeeze a bunch of water out. Then put em on damp with a belt and do squats/walk up a staircase three stairs at a time for like 10 minutes/sit on a chair with your legs spread out. After you feel like you have achieved the strechage you want you can hang them up to finish drying.

>> No.17638936

Even that Japanese brands are starting to mostly sell one wash these days. It's annoying and i prefer loomstate with decent before and after measurement charts but it just doesn't translate for a brand like naked and famous that is sold at so many non specialist retailers. The strech stuff im not really happy about but their reasoning is that same, they want to sell to people outside the enthusiast community and that means Sanforized jeans with lots of strech options. They still make some strech stuff but there was a lot of it this year.
Not much else to say, if they make stuff you want buy it, if not look elsewhere

Wash em a bunch, like every two weeks of wear or so, maybe monthly on the long end. I would still wash em inside out but you can leave the spin cycle on on the washer for more color loss. i would probably still hang dry them afterwards so you dont get those dryer creases on the legs.

There isint anything wrong with sanforizing per say, it just doesn't have some of the character that loomstate denim does.
Sanforization has 3 separate processes, the denim is processed to get the shrinkage out of it, it is then processed so the denim wont twist when washed and finally they use a flame to burn the loose fuzzy hairs off the surface of the denim. This improves the produxt for most consumers by fixing the issues that early denim jeans had.
Personally i enjoy the leg twist that occurs with loomstate denim when its washed, i like the appearance and detail. I also the all the little fuzzy hairs on the jeans and watching them being worn off as the first sign of wear.
Im more ambivalent about the preshirking part. I don't miss hving do go on forums to find out how much a particular run of jeans would shirk to figure out what size i should buy. But buying one wash jeans also takes care of that issue.
I have also seen some brand doing only the shrinkage par of the process without the other two steps, which seems like a good compromise.
But this is all autistic detail stuff, im guessing the average consumer would prefer to not have massive amounts of leg twist visible on their jeans, and wouldn't like them to be fuzzy on the surface with little hairs.

Hank dyed yarn tends to penetrate most of the way through the core of the yarn so it wont fade as easily.
SDA has a pair out right now, but i can't promise that they wont fade because it depends on how they dyed it. Like a decade ago the natural indigo jeans from the different jap denim companies were known to not fade because they were hank dyed but im not sure if they have change the process since then. Also this cut isint for everyone.
https://www.okayamadenim.com/collections/new-restocks/products/pre-order-studio-dartisan-sd-d01-the-origin-selvedge-jeans-regular-straight
Other then that you can't really stop jeans from fading, some other options would be to get jeans with a blue warp and blue weft thread so they are blue all the way through, they will still fade but it's a different look. There are also black sulpher dyed jeans that resist fading much more than indigo jeans do.

I'm putting away the 25 oz for the summer, they are just ridiculously hot. Yeah, I've worn in a pair of 777, but at the end of the experience I actually kind of hated it and promised myself to never wear a slim-fit pair of jeans ever again. The 888 (and straight tapered jeans in general) are the ultimate fit. I think that if I had to choose my desert island pair, it would have to be the overdyed black. Most of the Japanese brands love using pure cotton thread and it doesn't do the durability any favors. What they really perfect with their straight tapered fit is that the intensity of the taper is not too dramatic, allowing me to wear my pairs of 888s with engineer boots. I love my Samurais, but the intensity of the taper on my S520xx is VERY dramatic. Because of this, those jeans really only look great if I'm wearing them with a pair of tennis shoes or skate shoes. If I were to wear the Samurais with even a pair of 6" lace up boots, the tightness of the ankle makes it look pretty goofy when contrasted with the largeness of a pair of boots.

Sometimes I wonder if I should have went slim taper instead of slim straight on my Momotaros. According to their website the slim taper is a more roomy fit, even though it doesn’t sound that way. I like my slim straights but sometimes I wish I had a little more thigh room.

A tapered fit is going to provide a better leg silhouette for anyone with a relatively athletic build. If you are really skinny, slim straight fits will look nice on you because the jeans will remain fairly loose on your legs, but if your quads are even slightly bigger, a slim straight fit will hug your thighs tight while being loose on the calve region of your leg, resulting in a more feminine appearance.

Forgot to mention that if you are having any concern at all about slim fits being too tight on your thighs, its because you should really start transitioning to straight fits. Having no crotch mobility can completely ruin your experience of wearing the jeans. Although they may say that their slim tapered fit is more roomy, I really would not trust that. You would be much better off getting a straight tapered fit because its not only going to fit you better, but you will enjoy the comfort it provides

Yeah samurai definitely is out there doing things. Im pretty sure they were the first to do a 19oz denim. Recently they have been growing their own cotton in japan and used it for a limited run of jeans tshirts and sweaters.
I had a pair of their texas sort fiber cotton denim and it was amazing, really fast fading and super high contrast.
I just wish they still made their old 14-15 oz denims more often, it seems like they haven't made anything lighter than 16oz in a while.

If you sized only one size up, there isn't much you can do other than wear a belt. Everybody's body proportions are different and sometimes you just can't seem to find the "perfect" fitting pair without using a belt. If you have an athletic build, people usually recommend wearing straight fits, so you're already pretty much doing the best you can. I lift frequently and also have large thighs, so even though I also wear straight fits the jeans end up getting tight in the thighs when I sit down, its just part of what you should expect. You never know if switching companies could solve your issue though, maybe there is a pair of jeans from a different maker that has just the right waist size. If you want to go this route, I'd suggest getting the waist measurement on your current pair and look at the measurements from other companies to make sure that a pair you're interested in has just a slightly smaller waist while still being slightly larger than the initial pair of N&F you had returned.

>> No.17642433

>>17642414
I have plenty of non-jean pants that fit very well, but they're all very wide vintage pieces. My main problem is that with my proportions I only feel comfortable in pants with a VERY high rise and after countless hours of searching even most repro fits aren't high enough.

I actually just looked at the N&F site and measurements can vary a lot between denims in the same fit. Looks like some of these in my size have an inch more rise and half an inch more in the thigh and knee, maybe I should try to exchange for that different denim?

>> No.17642435

>>17642433
Yeah, from what you're telling me it seems that the thighs and the rise are your limiting factors. If the bleeding is a problem, turn jeans inside out, put in washing machine on delicate cycle, no detergent, turn off the spin cycle.
Take them out, turn them back outside out, roll them up in an old towel to dry them some and then hang them up or toss them over a box fan set to low to dry them.
Bounus put them on while they are still damp, use throw on a belt so you don't strech the waist and walk up and down a staircase for 10 minutes and then sit in a chair for ten minutes to really set the creases good.
I always wash my jeans like that when i get them and it doesn't affect their ability to get high contrast fades at all, but it helps by getting some of the starch out and making them not bleed like crazy on everything. Still gotta be careful on white couches but its a huge improvement.

Best tip for keeping your jeans from getting nasty is hang them up at night, dont toss them on the floor. Some people suggest having two pairs so you can alternate every day and the other pair can air out kinda like with boots.
What i always do especially in the summer is take one of those cheap box window fans, put it on the floor somewhere (or in a window) and then throw the jeans over the fan on low so at night the croch is getting fanned and it dries out/help keep it from getting funky.
But washing your jeans isn't a big deal, just wash em when they need it and don't sweat it

If you are confident you got all the shrinkage out just get them hemmed. Any tailor can do it for not much. >> No.17644512

>>17644480
Buy stf in your actual waist size, don't size up, go 34 on the inseam and they will shink somewhere between .5 and 2 inches in length depending on what mood they are in.
Don't size up on the waist unless you want a big baggy anti-fit and a mandatory belt.

Do this
Actually if you can try them on i would just grab a pair and try to go for the raw pair fitting snug but not tight. Basically they will shrink an inch or maybe less in the waist but then they will strech back out by an inch. But it depends on the kind of fit you are looking for and how willing you are to have them be real tight for a few days after you shrink them.

Okay my understanding is that after a few wears the waistband will basically end up the same size as it was when you bought them raw. As long as you actually toss them in the water to shrink them instead of doing some 10 minute quick soak in cold water you will get 90%+ of the shrinkage out right away. Hard+soft weird guys, levis so high bootcut
Levis 517 c. 1981, dirty fade true guys.

How many of you have true guys? I dig em but i'm still trying to let my 501's wear out before i realy get into fading them. They are a good replacement, though. Solid high rise straight.
I'm normally a tag 31 but went for the 30 true guy and they're a near perfect match in fit for my 501 stf 32×36, if a tad bit more snug which i don't mind. Certainly not too tight. Always check size guides and be ready for any particular garment to vary from a manufacturer's size chart. N&F say +/-.5" so if you receive something that's outside of that range, then it is their error and they should replace them.

Be blessed, and happy fading.

>Between 2006 and 2016, production of Egyptian cotton fell by seventy per cent. A U.S.D.A. report from March, 2016, blamed “the floundering and ever changing government’s policies,” and also deteriorating seed quality.

I mean if America grows more cotton and better cotton you'd have some American cotton products that aren't garbage but everyone on the planet knows Egyptian cotton is best that's why European fashion houses buy from Egypt not America and as I've explained the Mediterranean does not affect Zimbabwe cotton because of the flow of The Nile making the environment in the delta very different from elsewhere on the planet.

I've helped develop agricultural techniques to make the same cotton here in America but it's very expensive and requires pumping salt water and fish-hydroponic systems that cost lots of money but help people in America get the coveted Cupro, or baby cotton, which is worth a lot more than regular cotton because it's much softer and is only produced when the cotton plant is grown with sea water. If you want real cupro it will cost about $20,000 per square yard. Here is an example of a cupro skirt that probably cost about $100,000 retail.

Did you know 70% of Kim Kardashian's male following comes from Egypt? The reason her and Kanye were able to make billions of dollars through Balenciaga is because they are favored by Egyptians, compared with east coast American brands like Ralph Lauren that have to use shitty American cotton. Balenciaga design is garbage though because people with decent proportions don't wear that shit so they use it for money laundering among jews and 'rappers' which is why LA fashion is garbage despite having access to the best materials.

Well they developed all their cuts in like 2010 when they started and that was what was popular. Their whole angle was being a cheaper alternative the Japanese jeans which usually come in a lot of relaxed vintage style cuts.
You can find plenty of clasic 501 cuts in Japanese jeans for less than $200 so look there.
https://www.denimio.com/
Is probably the best place to start, free shipping over $150 and no proxy service shit.
Their desktop website has measurements and if a listing doesn't have fit pics you can usually find them by image searching the model

Pic of my APC New Standards before I submitted them to the butler program dude to the holes in the wallet pocket.

Didn't wash them wearing them almost every other day for 2 years (they smelled foul) and only washed them because I had fleas. Pic approximately taken at 4 years.

I wear momotaro's now that I got fitted in Japan but damn I don't think anything will fade as well as these did.

I do not understand this. If you want high contrast fades, you basically get a point of diminishing after 3 months. If you are refusing to wash your jeans after 3 months especially when wearing them daily, you have fallen for the retardation that is frequently found on reddit and denim forums.

I didn't wash my 3rd pair for 8 months and it got much more drastic fades than the pair I washed after 3 months. The trick is to air dry them all of the time when not wearing them, never had any issues with smell. From my experience the first wash is all that matters with high contrast fades. Once you get the initial 6-12 month of no washing you can wash as much as you want with no diminishing effects.

I’d say a 6 mounts to a year rather than three, but I definitely agree that some dudes take that shit way too far. Especially when they’re having blowouts and wondering why their dirty, sweaty, abused pants didn’t last like the internet told them they would.
They’re like boots. They can handle heavy use but you can’t outright abuse them then be surprised when they die early.

Insanely uncomfortable and you don't even realize how ass they feel until you get a nice pair of 100% wool trousers. You don't want to have both your jeans and jacket unworn and fresh. As the other anon said it can help to get a stonewashed jacket, but if you want more vibrant shades of indigo you're going to want to go the raw denim route. In order to make this not look too goofy in the beginning stages of your new jacket, you'll either want to wear a pair of black colored jeans with your indigo jacket, or just not wear jeans for a while and instead wear some chinos
