Reply if your glasses aren't owned by Luxottica

I have eyewear from oliver peoples, mykita, tom ford, moscot, AO, warby parker, zenni, fabulous fanny's, ray ban, see, oakley, and matsuda. I can tell you from experience non luxottica is not a guarantee of high quality and luxottica is not a guarantee of low quality. In real life no one cares how indie your eyewear is except reddit.

I have them in black and worn them pretty much every day for the last 10 years. dropped them probably a dozen of times and they're still in great shape. light and comfy to wear.

of course, fashion-wise, it depends on the shape of your face and personal taste.

The "I dress for myself" cope is something you do when you don't have the confidence to realize no fashion choice is done "for yourself". It is one thing to say that to others in order to seem cool and nonchalant but firstly, nobody believes you, and if you genuinely believe that about yourself I guarantee you dress like a clown and everyone around you thinks you're a clown.

kek, it's always about communicating something about yourself, that's true. The difference is "omg I need this popular brand item right now because all the cool kids have it!" (dressing for others) vs. developing a taste of your own

It is bad, have you seen what they've done to Oakley?
Huge conglomerates are killing the diversity of fashion and you know it. Say what you will about Oakley but they were actually unique and had identity before being bought. One of the reasons I enjoy Yellow Plus and J.F. Rey besides their actually nice and creative designs, at least for Rey.

Luxottica brands vary widely and a frame being Luxottica is meaningless without knowing the purchase agreement of the firms they bought. Most of them had stipulations for manufacturing to continue in their point of origin. In some cases like Persol quality has increased.

>Oliver Peoples
Made in Italy and Japan, excellent quality.
>Persol
Made In Italy.
>Alain Mikli
Made In France

All are hand made, use some of the best acetate on the market, hinges are solid, metals polished, and have good quality control. https://youtube.com/watch?v=4N1Rra73Nzc

Brands that are meh are rayban and Oakley. They declined in quality before they purchased them. Both used plastic frames , cheap hinges, and resorted to mass manufacturing before acquisition. They're priced accordingly for what they are. They never were in the same caliber as the above brands.

They sell junk under their designer fashion clothes brands. I'm actually glad they do this, gives them huge profits so no incentive to offshore and trash their top tier offerings.

I also give them major props for offering glass lenses with Persol and Oliver Peoples.

Oakley was more unique but quality of them was never stellar. They were guilty of the same thing Luxottica was doing, acquiring several brands including OP and worse with the intention of enacting cost saving measures. They were much more bottom line oriented, and took repeated measures in it's history to cheapen it's own brand. They stopped exclusive made in America a few years after their IPO (pre Luxottica) in the early 2000s.

I like Matsuda, J.F. Rey, Reykjavik eyes, Lindberg, OTE, LGR and several other brands usually more but definitely would put OP and Persol in the same league.

Luxottica unfairly gets shit on. There's much worse instances of shitty small potatoes independent firms like Moscot which are absolute shit, poor QC, stealing designs from some of the GOATs, acetate isn't the best, and everything is made in China.

Interesting, well hope the stuff about quality is true, desu I viewed Luxottica as mostly just cheap luxury brand garbage but they are fine, but I just have an insane distaste to conglomerate monopolies in fashion in general.

No idea, no experience. Hopefully someone else knows. If you want a solid pair of sunglasses at that price get the Maui Jim ones at Costco. They go on sale around summer. They're a little over $100 on sale. They sell discontinued models which is better. A pair will last you for life. Expect Maui Jim to go to total shit now that Kering (biggest fashion conglomerate, one with more interest in names than products) owns them as of last year.

Different batches. They made them in Japan, then Italy for a while, then back to Japan again for that model.

I don't. It's not much for them to send a pair off and take new pictures and update it. Web designer just updated the text and this stuff slides until someone like a customer calls them out on it. I've seen the wrong image on Matsuda before and they updated it.

Hand made, takes dozens of hours and it shows. It's much more labor intensive than you think and to craft fine details requires skillful artesinal precision.
