Here’s my review of Dior joules
>
Jean Martel is credited for making this perfume, but this smells like a Roudnitska-fougere (think Ocean Rain). It has this mouthwatering woody floral (mainly cyclamen-hedione) backbone, it's fresh and aromatic and definitely tantalizing and decadent. I travelled to Cuba in summer and realized that Jules was at home in the hot humid Caribbean weather. Dare to say I felt like the world's classiest secret agent wearing this with Italian silk trousers and button up linen shirt walking the sultry streets of Havana.
The best way, other than a Roudnitska-fougere, would be to characterize this perfume as Floral-fougere or Erotic-fougere. Jules pays homage to the brand's classical era. Kudos to Dior for re-introducing this. Buy now in bulk since this may disappear again.
Tldr it’s also very gay. But in a gay cabana boy way

>> No.17607654

dior wouldnt be nearly as gay if they just stuck to making roudnitska style fragrances, everything since diorella has gotten progressively more homo.

it's definitely more love or hate. many people don't get the lipstick association at all though, I don't for example. I guess it depends if you've smelled old school iris-scented lipstick as a child
the current dior homme is actually a new scent released in 2020. the original was also an iris scent

What kinda new scam are these fucking samples? Now they have gone down to 0.3 mL. When you pull out the tab, the foil covering the sprayer gets pulled off. After that, you squeeze some kind of foil bag underneath the paper. Gave it a single spray to test how it work and there's already basically nothing left of it and it's now unsealed so it can just evaporate. You might get a single wear out of one of these (not me, though, because for me that requires way more sprays than you can get from this shit). They somehow managed to put even less into the free samples.
As for the fragrance, it's Invictus Victory with an additional "woody amber" note (the infamous molecule that smells like trash to my nose and can be found e.g. in Le Beau Le Parfum, Jazz Club, Oud Malaki and a few others). Due to that, regular Invictus Victory smelled better to me (it's Invictus with an added coffee note), but Invictus is still the better Invictus and Ferragamo Uomo Signature is still the better coffee showergel.

3rd Man and Zino are not similar, apart from being highly masculine frags from the mid 80s. Honestly I think everyone should just blind buy Zino; at $20 for 125ml there's really no reason not to. If you don't like it at first, give it time.

I bought Zino a couple years ago because of all the Beau de Jour comparisons. I didn't love it at first. I thought the opening was a bit musty and that the lavender and patchouli were inferior to that in BdJ. After my nose matured a bit I realized Beau de Jour has way too much ambroxan, which ends up overpowering the gorgeous lavender and patchouli in the end. And then I realized Zino is actually the superior frag overall, at 1/8th the price

it's been some time since I ordered samples, lol. I started just going to the mall by myself (or with someone if they want to come along) and I sample a bunch of fragrances, get a smoothie, walk around, window shop, etc. And then once I think my nose is burnt out, which frankly it probably is even before I arrive to the mall because I smoke too much, I stop sniffing frags and instead just ask if they have samples I can take home. It's fun and doesn't cost me much compared to buying samples or worse, blind buying.

Like I'll try maybe a dozen or more fragrances on paper strips, and out of those I'll spray 2-4 on my wrist/ forearm to see how it is on my skin. And then I'll get a couple samples from the Chanel store, Montblanc, Nordstrom, wherever. Most stores are pretty good about samples except Macy's. Fuck Macy's, their fragrance counter is a bunch of pushy brainlets.

Agree on Shalimar, EDP and EDT both tho
Vol de Nuit is pretty unisex, nicely airy and green
Mitsouko has always seemed deeply feminine to me, but that hasn't stopped me from wearing it.
Apres L'Ondee and L'Heure Bleue I've tried in-store a few times, and they're both on the sweeter side of feminine.
Jicky is still the most masc of them all and happens to be my favorite frag of all time. I'd wear the EDP every day if it were a bit cheaper, but then it would also feel less special

Jazz is nothing like M7, it's a fougere where geranium is the dominant floral rather than lavender. So it's big woody patchouli with fizzy semi-sweet geranium and herbs. It's kind of like Platinum Egoiste, but dirtier and more interesting. Has a rugged yet classy "I'm a gentleman from the 80s" vibe. Great stuff.
Rive Gauche is great too, like a cleaner and more refined Azzaro Pour Homme. I'm sure you've read a lot about it. I'd definitely add Jazz to your smell list though

Went to a store today to sample some frags, here are a couple of impressions:
>Le Beau Le Parfum
Can't believe I was considering buying this at some point, it's just smells too cloying and synthetic to me now. Maybe the tester is from a bad batch, really liked it the first time.
>Versace Pour Homme
This gets recommended a lot, but there's a note in here that just doesn't agree with my nose. Sampled it multiple times at this point, doubt I'll ever take a bottle home.
>Bvlgari Man Rain Essence
New release, so this was the first time I sampled it, but I could barely smell anything, did anyone else found this to be weak as well?
>Bvlgari Man Glacial Essence
This one I liked though, very fresh and true to it's name. Decided that this is going to be one of the frags I try on my skin and I'm liking the dry down as well. Good longevity too, might pick this up for the summer.
>1 Million Lucky
Pretty good, might be my favorite from Paco Rabanne so far, I'm trying this on my skin the next time I visit a store.
>Montblanc Legend Spirit
Kinda weird, but in a pleasant way. Didn't really stand out to me, wouldn't consider getting it after the first impression.
>Y Eau de Parfum
Not bad at all, but smells way too generic for me. Zero standout factor, but probably a safe gift. I would wear it if somebody gave me a bottle.
>Acqua di Giò Eau de Parfum
Not a fan, just doesn't do it for. My least favorite from the line.
>Acqua di Giò Profondo
Wanted an even match for Glacial Essence, so I sprayed this on my other wrist. Both by Morillas, both released in 2020, both warm weather frags. Always liked this one in the store, but now that I had a test run, I'm not impressed. Dry down is much more synthetic than I would have liked, and it didn't even last long. Glacial Essence won easily, no wonder it's more expensive.

Now this was a huge disappointment. The citrus note in this is way too sharp for me, this is the first Dior fragrance that I outright dislike.
>Dior Dune Pour Homme
Very interesting and old school in a good way, but I was pretty nose blind by the time I got to it. Will definitely test this out on my skin some time in the near future, really got my attention.
>Chanel Antaeus
Saving the best for last, this was by far the most masculine scent I sampled. It's as good as people say, fantastic fragrance. Will definitely get this in the future, it's just so damn good.

I say "just browsing" when I get asked if they can help me (they never can, they just need a job). I sniff caps first and when I find something interesting I test it on a paper strip and if it is still interesting I test on my skin. People hate the paper strips sometimes ("skin chemistry etc."), but they have never let me down. Also, trust your nose. If you don't like it, you don't like it. It doesn't matter if every YouTubers likes it or whatever, if it doesn't appeal to you, put the bottle back and move on. There's so much other stuff out there, you don't need to force yourself to like stuff.

Hello everyone, noob drunk-purchase-anon here. I've tried four perfumes of the ones I ordered so far. My absolute scrub first opinions:

>CHANEL - Paris - Edimbourg
Smells pretty good. I don't know what a Scottish moor smells like in particular, but to me it smells a lot like walking through a heather moor. I imagine it's something similar. Smells fresh and natural and woodsy. Lasted for a long time, but didn't stink up the whole place either. Pretty non-offensive. Might keep this, because I found it rather elegant.

>XERJOFF - Casamorati 1888 Italica
Smells a lot like caramel when I first sprayed it, then turned into a really sickly sweet thick and heavy kind of nausea. Like drowning in caramel and fatty cream. Gave me a compact headache. It was a hot sunny day when I tried it. Stayed on my skin until the day after, through showering. Expensive mistake to get this one, will give it away.

>PROFUMUM ROMA - Arso
Wew, I like this one a lot. If you've ever been in a coniferous forest on a really hot summer day with no wind, that's exactly what this smells like. Like boiling pine resin. Compared to the other perfumes this one smells very realistic, the others have that kind of "perfumey" smell to them somehow - can't explain it. Smells the same throughout and sat for the entire day on my arm.
It's a bit heady though, so maybe not for summer? I'll definitely keep it.

>ACQUA DI PARMA - Arancia di Capri
Decent when I first sprayed it, with sort of sour citrusy zest kind of smell - not super realistic one though. The most summery of all of them. Didn't last for more than an hour though, unless I was right up sniffing with my nose on my skin. Kinda smelled like a soap after the first ten minutes. A nice soap but still smelt like I had just been to the washroom and washed my hands kinda soapiness. This one wasn't as expensive but considering it didn't really last, and you'd have to spray a few times if you wanted to prolong it, it might as well have been.

Any frag that's similar earthy, powdery green like Grey Flannel? Sold my bottle years ago, but damn, i miss that earthy-powdery galbanum opening of Grey Flannel. I hated the almond, tonka drydown.

I haven't smelt anything quite like Grey Flannel. Dunhill for men has a green powdery feel to it but tonka is listed as a base note. I don't have such a discerning nose to pick up individual notes but I think you may like Lalique Pour Homme Lion. It opens up with greens and dries down into a powdery scent. It takes a much warmer direction than the "musty" Grey Flannel. Lalique PH is many a time described by people as kind of a modern fougère. Not sure if it actually has green notes to it as I'm trying it after sniffing Grey Flannel and I can't discern anything anymore. Grey Flannel too strong.

Guys looking for something lasting with good projection that is nice but not so obvious (smth incomprehensible/enigmatic) for spring/summer for a cheap price, right now I'm interested in Bois Impérial after reading some comments here about longevity and uniqueness, would you recommend me something else in that price range? I've also never had a molecular fragrance before and I have no opportunity to smell it either so I'm mostly looking for people reaction and opinion, thanks in advance

Sotd is Menthe Froide. A sharpy, minty, coldish type of fragrance. Very nice on cold rainy days.

Bois Imperial is good. How about Rasasi Shuhrah if you want something with rose and oriental or Jacques Bogart Story Blue if you wanna smell like freshly washed laundry with beastmode performance.

The name is very honest. Orange citrus and Green notes in the opening, and a woody/oakmoss drydown. Do not blind buy this. either find it in a store (call ahead because big box stores don't tend to have testers of these), or get a sample from a decanter site for 10$.

Menthe Froide is definitely out of my budget, while Story Blue smells for me like coolwater but in a bad way (I'm not a fan of coolwater, smells like smth my dad would buy in tesco), Rasasi Shuhrah seems worth checking out, would you recommend something similar to ysl y le parfum or bad boy le parfum from aromatic fragrances? (I really like cannabis notes in bad boy) and there's smth interesting in y but they are not very lasting and people almost don't smell it on me after 2-3 hours

it's good, it's unique. the honey note is superb and it's one of the few manly honey scents that aren't gourmand trash. not nearly as hard to wear as people make it out to be. maybe it was more of a beast back then, i wouldn't know. very much underrated at that price if you like fragrances from the powerhouse era.

Hello anons, complete noob here and I want to make sure my first purchase is something close to what I'm looking for. After reading through the pic, I think I'm looking for a Fresh Green fragrance, due to primarily using it for this summer and because it sounds like it lasts the longest. I plan to start with the Guerlain Homme EDP since it's the cheapest there, but if there are any other suggestions not listed I would appreciate them greatly.

Some follow up questions: where should I be applying for longest lasting effect? Clothing or skin? Also, I have some old random fragrances that were gifted for Christmas/birthdays that I am not sure on the quality of, nor whether they're still "good" if that's even a thing. It seems like they smell for a minute or two before dissipating completely, and I've gotten others to confirm so that it's not just that I got used to the smell. In short, can fragrances go bad/expire? Should I just toss all this old stuff and start anew? Thank you all in advance.

Fragrances don't really go bad if you keep them out of sunlight. Which ones have you got?
As for spraying, I like to spray the back and sides of the neck. Two to five sprays depending on how strong the fragrance is. If it's extra weak, I'll spray my forearms as well, and maybe under the shirt.

For fresh green stuff I also like un jardin Sur Le nil, that's an easy one to recommend. And Terre d'Hermes lasts well on me for a fresh fragrance if that's important to you.

Random, mall-tier stuff it seems, except for the Dior one which actually seems good according to my lurking here. I also have some random fragrance from Express, which also seems mall-tier, but I haven't even taken it out of the box. Thanks for the tips on spraying and the recommendations btw.

>where should I be applying for longest lasting effect? Clothing or skin?

It's not about making it last, it's about creating a good fusion of the bottled scent and your natural skin scent

So put it on your skin and ignore what Jeremy says
