Depends on your taste to be fair, experience will tell after using them moderately. In terms of layering when i had a D Noir bottle i just used 2 and 2, one spray from each bottle on both sides of the neck.
But probably the most realistic thing would be 2 from Noir and 1 from Dakar, so 6 sprays in total but that's overkill. If you have spare change just get both and try them out so you can decide later, or if you want adventure just buy an empty bottle and test decanting with a syringe ml by ml, 2ml from Dakar and 5 from DN and so on.

Looking for a frag recommendation for my new job, night manager in a luxury resort. It's a somewhat unique role because I'm also head of security at the same time, so I want something with an aura of authority and confidence. I'm 30 so no old man frags. Currently rotating Platinum Egoiste and Beau de Jour while in a lower level daytime role. You already got what you need with PE and BdJ. Not much else that is this high quality, inoffensive, clean without being boring or sweet. Best I can think of would be Eau Sauvage Parfum or New York Intense, so you get some fougere/chypre mix which loses some of the barbershop aspects of your current choices.

Amazingreen, is really good, very green, fresh with an intresting green bell pepper accord, and just enough heft to not be boring.
If the person likes incense the incense series is all hitters. Avignon is classic frankiscence and zagorsk is frankinscence mixed with pine woods and just a touch if soapy iris.
Wonderwood and Wonderoud are basicly wood monoscents, wonderoud is probably a tad darker and wonderwood a bit sharper.
Comme des Garcons 2 is ink and aldehydes, intresting but not a blind buy for sure.
Floriental is plum, cinnamon and balsamic notes in the drydown.
For the most part all of cdg frags have meh projection and don't last over 8 hours.

Spoke to a Dior national representative, mostly sales and Private Line peddling, by mere chance.
Pulled out a Sauvage Elixir because those are not for test here and it really is a good perfume, dry lavender + pepper for sharpness, hilarious performance (18+ hours) but pretty expensive.
Said they got to blind smell a new frag not long in France for internal review, a woman's one which was fig stuff. Got told by Kurkdjian's handlers that he wouldn't get (or work, don't recall the specific word) a fragrance for men out until next year, right now it's stuff for wimmenz and private line/collection stuff.
Also mentioned all Dior Homme stuff with that iris along with other bottles using it got reformulated because their iris supplier got IFRA'd to death for not proving their short to medium time renewable tactics. No new Fahrenheit flankers supposedly on the roadmap.
As sidenote also scared me when, after talking about violet leaf juices, he said that Grey Flannel seems to have been chopped or soon to be discontinued around this continent due to the supplier playing dumb, also Ermenegildo Zegna Uomo frag got chopped not long ago for some reason despite strong sales. So time to hunt that one extra hard and time to stock Grey Flannel.

I've never bothered to give it more scrutiny and smell what other notes it has because any time I'm at Neiman's or Saks there's other stuff I want to spray and BR540 isn't something I plan on buying anyway.
the fact that it smells like cotton candy explains why people like it, but it doesn't explain why people are willing to pay such stupid prices for it. there's gotta be more to it, right?

Got Sauvage Elixir, can confirm the hilarious performance. Bought the original 60 mL full bottle and went through it surprisingly fast (lots of sprays but at least it works the whole damn day). Luckily it was up for testing here. Bought the 100 mL bottle when they released it and it's still the same (some people online were worried about a reformulation). Last time I wore it to a party my clothes made my bedroom smell like it for 3-4 days afterwards, just from sitting in the laundry basket.
The iris bullshit sucks, but once again it's the IFRA at fault (big if true). I doubt that any arab house can make a worthwhile clone of DHI or else they would have done so already. There isn't even a DUA clone of it and with the reformulation rumors and the implied lower performance it would have been the perfect time to bring out their own interpretation.

>>17563138

You guys have no idea what you are talking about. Dior sauvage elixir still dries down to that dismal woody amber, it's the best of a bad line but that's not saying much. We are very overdue two new masculines from Dior and Chanel, hopefully something with a bit of elan and flair.

>> No.17563190

>who's even the supplier?
Supposedly some italian company, it's european and not chinaman hence why i think they got much more easily pushed out rather than a syndicate of triads in some asian country.
Who knows how they sell the oil but Fahrenheit uses violet in "absolute" concentration which is why it smells like gasoline, even fartsy if applied amid hot air. Was told that's the reason it is different from other violet frags, even close clones like Mercedes Benz. I suppose the iris chems were a special concoction to keep the dry smoothness rather than the usual cakey creaminess.
Also tested an old Dior Homme Intense bottle, it really smells like makeup with some hints of cocoa in it, really faggy smell but cannot deny its elegance. Dior Homme Parfum came into the conversation, the dude seemed to love it too, quite rare here and i could at this point see the obviousness of the fella's bodily pleasure orientations.
He was quite gracious so cannot speak that badly of him, good salesman too as he almost sold a couple of men's bottles while just casually talking if it wasn't for roasties telling their men they should keep looking for more stuff aka they wanted the money for their own shit.

I kept getting scared while sleeping because i thought someone was in the room, my testing hand still projected even after taking a bath 12 hours later.
The arabs seem to be adverse or don't know how to pull certain notes to this day, ozonic violet is one and now that you mention it the dry iris neither. They have perfected the spicy aromatics and some flowers but leaves, tea notes and fruits are still in progress.

Sure but the lavender main note lasts more than most frags' base notes.
>that's not saying much
These days it is but i agree, i would buy it just to appreciate the profile but cannot see myself using it as a daily driver or even in normal outings with friends. The overuse of its main line is dastardly but one day we may appreciate it a bit more, kinda how Drakkar saw a revival in the 00's after everyone hated its omnipresence in the 80's.

If it was supposed to be sophisticated perfumery it wouldn't have been released under a Dior main line. It's still multidimensional and more complex than other designers, it's strong, and it doesn't draw its strength from pure sugar and vanilla like so many other frags do these days.

leaving the first few minutes aside, when CSF smells much greener and takes a short while to get to the main notes, these two smell enormously similar, the differences being:
AdS being a more balsamic, the myrtle is really hyped up together with an ozonic smell which results in a very balsamic, almost minty, close-to-nose-piercing accord, while CSF smells more toned down, not necessarily more realistic but noticeably less nose-piercing still, even though it still is quite balsamic
CSF being greener, with an ever so slightly smoky thyme note accompanying the main myrtle/ozonic accord, which is itself somewhat balsamic but takes some space from what is the pretty much only accord in AdS
performance is not even close, a single spray of AdS has noticeably more sillage than a spray and a half of CSF, and it lasts days on a tissue compared to some 12-18h
all in all AdS is a bit bluer and brighter and CSF is a bit greener and more moderate
all in all they smell very similar but there are indeed differences, there really is nothing quite like Acqua di Sale, so if you want something along the lines of Ads and don't mind something a tiny bit greener and a bit less balsamic this is the frag to get
CSF also has the advantage of costing €12,95 per bottle on sale, close to 1/15th of the price of AdS in Italy, so you can pretend it's Neroli Intense and use thrice your usual amount and still spend 1/5th

Try Montblanc Legend EdP. I've tried many similar scents as I like the dna. Legend EdP was the best in terms of price/performance, which might be what you're looking for (assumed based on you wanting to replace that overpriced PdM frag). Percival is certainly a bit warmer smelling, if that makes sense, but I haven't been able to justify the price difference yet. My favorite of similar dna is still Platinum Egoiste, but that doesn't really smell like Percival, just similar. Bentley for Men Black Edition was also good, but a little too fruity for my taste (but even cheaper than MB Legend EdP) and didn't match Percival in subjective quality of scent.

>>17564375
You're screaming into the void, nobody will listen. Elixir's drydown might have a similarity to Sauvage in the showergel accord, but the licorice accord strays far from Sauvage. For me the most important difference seems to be the omission of iso-e super, which Sauvage heavily relies on and which I can't really detect in Elixir (no overwhelming pencil shavings anywhere), and the omission of vanilla.
Reviews of Sauvage and similar frags are usually tainted by the popularity of the main release. Sauvage gets bad ratings, Eros gets bad ratings, Bleu de Chanel gets ok ratings, but of all of these and similar ones the flankers suddenly get better ratings. What I'm trying to convey is that preconceived notions taint the enjoyment of fragrances for some, and as such they can never objectively rate a fragrance, since the name on the bottle already disturbs them.

QUESTION AND HELP!

I am new to perfume world and I tried sampling a few men scents from Armani, Dolce and Gabbana, Jimmy Choo, Joop! and Bvlgari.

Literally everything smells the same to me, a chemical industrial alcohol scent.

I wait 5-10 minutes after spraying perfumes to try them, I use coffee between each new perfume BUT always I end up with that chemical industrial alcohol smell.

I can not comprehend how people are capable of detecting various notes in those perfumes, when they smell all the same to me.

What am I doing wrong? Are those perfume brands not so good? Should I try niche brands?

they are not better per se, they are more daring and most of them are designed to offer you a more complex experience without thinking if it will be mass appealing or not

if by better you mean "ill smell good for most of the people", in that regard, designer fragrances (almost any) are the best choice,

Every time I go to Macy's it really makes me understand what niche contributes. You'd kinda think that when you go to the mall, all the different bottles would give you a wide range of smells. That's what I thought for years when I'd walk right past the fragrance counters and the displays. Nope, turns you you've got fifty slight variations on the same thing, and really weak too. If they have the row of Tom Ford chess pieces you've got a nice variety of decent smells but fuck those prices.

It feels like back when your grocery store had Bud, Miller, Coors, Heineken, Old Milwaukee and if you were a connoisseur you could get Guinness.

Niche is kinda like how there's all the IPAs and other oddball beers. Both in that it's generally stronger than the Budweiser stuff, and there's actually some variety, although a lot of the houses will cover the same bases.

It kind of blows up my mind that a smelly water general on a fucking anime imageboard has so much edge over the general public and been talking about this scent when there were literally three reviews of it on Fragrantica. I get it that some of you're just autistic and probably spent 1000s of hours on this hobby, but damn BI has become probably one of the most memed niche fragrance in my country. Basically every niche shop has it now in its offering, and it's a bestseller. Facebook fragrance groups, and our local version of reddit talk about it 24/7, and I've smelled it on streets a few times, too - this never happened with any other niche scent I know (and is one of the reasons I'm not going to rebuy a bottle after finishing the one I bought last year - might upgrade it to Ganymede though). Like some of you people would make a bank if you decided to write or make a channel about fragrances instead of shitposting here anonymously. It's a different scent altogether, a quality boozy sweety gourmand juice which smells awful to me but those boozyfags say it is very good. Givenchy Gentleman Privee smells in the same ballpark in terms of blending and ingredients but Pasha P is sweeter and with more alcoholic hints.
In my opinion it is an abomination but it was made for another audience, the name remains, kinda like Pasha Noire which also doesn't smell like Pasha nor is "dark" but a freshie blue. All wrong in that line.
