Uncle Seiko is good, but I think they're a little overpriced for what they are, I don't rate the clasps very highly when I have 40 year old stock Seiko ones that are better. Still miles better than garbage like strapcode though, and they're probably still better than most cheaper OEM straps.

QR springbars are nice, but occasionally limiting. If you're planning on swapping out your strap regularly, sure. If not? I don't see much point, they're not that fiddly to fit in the first place.

Don't really get the complaints over price. It's by no means a great value when you look at what else you can get, but it's also not terrible given the context of the market. A gold Omega Constellation and the VC FiftySix (Val Fleurier movement) Both have roughly the same MSRP as this. Can't really compare new to grey market prices. Ultimately the success or failure of this watch will come down to whether or not people like the design as opposed to the price being prohibitive.

Once again not the best value out there, but not crazy considering. This one's going to come down to buyer preference. They couldn't get people excited about the Cellini with the lack of a display case back and half decent looking movement, so we'll see if this makes a difference or not. I have a few collections, and a combo of light OCD (or just mild autism, fuck knows) means I've always mentally set limitations and curated them in ways that thankfully limits spending, but also means I get too caught up sometimes.

Records I'm at 600 over the last 10 years but only records of albums I love, don't do soundtracks or any crazy boxsets or editions, any genre recorded analogue I go for analogue mastering (Blue Note Tone Poet, etc) and don't go buying anything above retail with only few exceptions.

Last few years it was boutique blurays. I never cared enough about schlock horror to be an Arrow video guy, but the recent Hong Kong and other cinema restoration works has blown me away. Currently have a decent collection made up of restoration (in most cases) releases from 88Films, Eureka, Arrow, Second Sight and Third Window. Thankfully it's a hobby with lots of easy resell, and my limiting factor is no boxsets, no numbered series (so no Criterion, no MoC) and no crazy editions. I also thankfully give zero fucks about slipcovers.

Last few things is a decent little sci-fi and 'lit-fantasy' library, but I love to give books away so I only keep my absolute favourite authors (Wolfe, Ishiguro, Vance, Clarke, Cook, Harrison among others). No hardcovers unless it's the only format. And I have a small archive of clothing from a couple of designers/brands that I retain even if I no longer wear, which is something I don't do with my main wardrobe.

Sure, case finishing, you need to practice for a couple of months, lots of curves you have to maintain and keep level. Finishing hands? They're just little pieces of stamped out steel, you polish the sides and add a bit of a bevel to the top surface and you're good. They're small and fiddly, sure, but this isn't a difficult job.

It might have been originally, Fliegers were 55mm after all. Hard to find out anything else about the Unitas 2812, as their most notable use was in the Stowa Fliegers. But Unitas typically made pocket watch, large-diameter, sub-seconds etc. movements. Panerai uses/used a lot of Unitas movements.

Now, problem is it wasn't my first choice, I was looking for a no-date sub (still aluminium bezel) and I don't know if I'm going to regret it. I suspect it's going to grow on me and end up being my pride and joy, this sort of thing does tend to happen to me. I'll be looking for a specific car, say a Civic, and unexpectedly a Corsa presents itself and I end up loving it. I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, especially considering my track record with these things but there is the niggling thought in my mind that paying over £10000 for something that seems second-best might be a mistake. There are tons of dial/bezel/bracelet options for the DJ.

You can get a smooth bezel in steel, Oyster bracelet, lumed dial with stick markers if you like. Same water resistance, same shock resistance.

I have a Submariner 16610 and an Explorer 124270 I bought last year. My initial intention was to flip it but I just couldn't let it go.
I barely wear the Sub now. The Explorer is pretty much perfect for me. It's compact, sturdy as a rock, low key. Absolutely love it.

Story time:

I remember when an Anon tried, desperately, to convince me that a Rolex was the best choice for a “super spy” (just like James Bond), because he can pawn it or sell it for a plane ticket in a pinch.

Prince Harry’s special unit got a Rolex, because being royalty has his privilege. But even he is rocking a Pulsar. Besides.
The same Anon goes on a tangent about how he’s going to give it to his grandson. A clever marketing trick. If you’re a good grandfather, trinkets will be sentimental to your grandchildren regardless. A wooly a hat, a pair of worn down shoes, his favorite pipe, a mug drunken out of everyday, and yes, even a cheap $200 Hamilton or Seiko beater will be a treasured item.
As for me, I’m rocking my Khaki field. It’s been around the world with me, has seen weddings, births, and deaths. I keep my grandfather’s cheap Bulova in a drawer. The one he told me to keep before he died the next day. I’m saving for my grail. Which I won’t say what it is.

So what’s the moral here? Don’t go stressing over watches. Buy what you like on YOUR budget. Envy kills. A watch is just a Watch at the end of the day. Rolex or Seiko. It does the job. Just get what you like.
