These "how to use unecessarily complicated watch" infographs are kinda neat but at the same time nobody will ever remember any part of them even if they own the watch and practice it a few times intentionally. When you have a 12 step process to roughly estimate ground speed, nobody will ever use it to estimate ground speed.

I get your point but I don’t think it’s necessarily about the actual use case but more about the “ability to” aspect. You’ll rarely find yourself in the position of having to build a fire, for instance, but almost everyone knows how to. It’s more of a cultural-heritage-skill kinda thing, related to horology of course. Don’t know if that analogy makes sense and I also find it completely obsolete. But diver bezels are still movable as well and fewer than 1% of those ever see anything betont the depth of shallow swimming pools.

The real problem with this piece of junk is that what's hard to begin with is keeping track of orders of magnitude, which the dial just makes more difficult.

They really try and come up with stupid ideas for how you'll use the watch. Like you need to pay a 15% tip on an 80 dollar meal? Well, in the time it takes you to do your stupid dial, I've already done (80/10)+(80/10/2) in my head and got to 12. If you're doing anything more complex, just pull out a calculator app, it'll be faster.

>>17551739
>But diver bezels are still movable as well and fewer than 1% of those ever see anything betont the depth of shallow swimming pools.
A diver bezel is useful for timing things. Say you need to check on something in 10 minutes, you set the bezel in half a second by aligning 2 points, the 0 on the bezel and the current position of the minute hand. Sure, a chrono works too, but they're typically bulkier like that dinner plate, and the hands can be obscured. Pushers can get gunked up, it's possible for you to reset them. I will say a slide ruler is slightly more useful on a chrono than a dive bezel, though. You'll probably never use either of them anyway.

>> No.17551750

>>17551746
I mean sure, you could use it like that but if I’m supposed to go through this procedure and then attend to my watch every minute or so, having to manually check the time, I might as well try to remember “okay, so I’ll have to leave in 10 minutes, that means when the big hand meets that dot I’m off”. Doesn’t seem insanely practical to me and who wouldn’t just use their phone nowadays. I know that people bring this up and technically it does seem more convenient and easier to pull off but in the end, it’s just a “hey, I could do this with my watch”-thing that in the end no one will use either

I play DCS and I collect watches. Yet I don't have a pilot watch. Correction, I do have a DW5600.
Some candidates to get/save up on:
>I have a 7A28, but it's the wrong model (Bishop), SADF and RAF used different references, I'm not aware of any air-force issuing the Bishop
>Sea-Gull
>Poljot Shturmanskie (I have a Strela, but it's busted)
These are the affordable ones. The ones that'll need some moderate to serious saving up:
>Breitling Pluton 2100 (Yugoslav Air Force)
>Heuer Montreal (Hungarian People's Army Air Force)
>Orfina Porsche Design Chronograph 1 (you nerds should know this one)
>something Lemania 5100, like an Omega, Sinn or Heuer
Suggestions?

I use my dive bezel on a daily basis to time food and shit because my oven barely makes a noise when it's done and sometimes I don't hear it with headphones on. Sure, I could try and remember "okay, I put the food in at 12 past 3", but with a bezel I don't have to remember shit. When I think enough time has passed, or I'm close to my food being done, I check my watch. I'm usually in the ballpark, and checking the watch lets me know "oh, okay, I've got another 2 minutes until it's done". I'm not checking back every minute, and if I had to leave at, say, quarter past 9 I'd just remember the time so a bezel would be useless anyway.

The Explorer is a threehander, in terms of Rolex steel it's the most discreet dress/sports watch. It's superior to all the OPs at the very least and arguably superior to the Air King & Milgauss.

The poorfag Rolex would be a fucked old two tone Datejust from the 1980s, or one of the older 34mm references. A 36mm 14270 Explorer is not far in price from a 40mm 16570 Explorer II, it doesn't make sense to shit on it.

Well, yeah. The Explorer, Oyster Perpetual and Datejust are based because you can get a Rolex for a 6-8k budget. What's not to like? You get the best movement available, an iconic design and an exceptional value retention at a reasonable price.

The OP's were popular because they were the cheapest Rolex and okay looking (unlike the air king)

The hype from the Sports models somehow went into the colour OP's, which are made for the masses and so was the 39mm OP's.

I never saw a guy with an Explorer and thought, that was all he could afford. You see Explorers in fairly high end collections but you son't see OP's in top their collections. Maybe colour dial OP but those collections are like Rolex only guys, not watch guys as we know it.

The Explorer cost more than an OP, only watch guys would pay the difference to have a Sports model. Normal people would just get the OP.

"Size watch" means jackshit. There are multiple factors that can make a watch look too big on your wirst
>diameter
>dial opening
>lug to lug

One of the most grotesque watch ever made, the Breguet Marine, is "only" 39mm in diameter but because of these elongated lugs it looks a lot bigger than it is.

You should be thankful for that opportunity, however you are still missing a key measurement, the wrist width or as you say "the top of your wrist", so i'm afraid you'll have to find another opportunity to measure your wrist again. Good luck finding a guy that can measure the wrist width though, wrist width measuring is an ancient art and almost all of the people that know how to measure wrist width are dead. If you do happen to find out what your wrist width is you can come back here and i will give you the exact formula for calculating the optimal watch diameter, i'm not giving it away to just anyone, you must understand it took me years to figure it out.

Around doesn't matter as much as how wide your wrist is. And the size of the watch dial doesn't matter as much as the lug to lug, which should be between 75-95%. My biggest watch that i can still sort of pull off is 42mm diameter with 50mm lug to lug. I prefer 40mm or less, my daily watch at 37mm is pretty much ideal (wrist width 60mm / 1.618 (phi) = ~37mm).

Have a dilemma. I have this watch

love it but the band sucks. I'd like to add this band

https://artemstraps.com/products/loop-less-black-sailcloth-watch-strap-with-grey-stitching

With the deployant clasp system, but they only offer the clasp in ss or pvd coated steel (black). To match the aesthetic I'd love the clasp in titanium. Is there a way to make steel look titanium? Got this watch secondhand a while back for a steal and I absolutely love it in terms of functionality (AT, Ability to have the digital time different than the analog time, solar) plus its large but not thick.
It's a delight. I work remotely in a different time zone and I go on nature walks often, so this totally fits my lifestyle. The visual design? Meh. I found it loud at first, but it's so nice to wear that it grew on me quickly.

Man-made fabrics like acrylic, polyester, rayon, acetate, and nylon are treated with thousands of harmful toxic chemicals during production, according to ScienceDaily. In a study from Stockholm University, researchers chose four groups of substances related to health risks and tested them for "occurrence, quantity, toxicity, and how easily they may penetrate the skin," and the highest concentrations of two of the substances were found in none other than polyester.

Toxic chemicals aside, synthetic fabrics simply don't breathe, and anyone who's worn polyester on a hot summer day is probably well aware of that. The fabric also traps odors, which Popular Science explained in an article. Not to go into too much gory detail, but skin germs found in sweat feast on chemicals, which synthetic fibers can't absorb, therefore creating an environment for smelly bacteria to grow. All signs point to polyester being the number one worst fabric for skin.

This would've been the perfect watch for me if not for those god-awful lugs. Why did they fucking do it? Everything else about it is literally perfect.

Go to a watch boutique and try a few straps in person. Personally i'd go for a warm, rich brown leather strap, i think it would contrast well with the dial and look classy.

Looks crisp. I like how fat the bracelet is in relation to the case, gives it that solid look.

I always like watches that extend the dial to the case or vice versa, Seiko did it before, others too, like Piaget or AP.

So they finally managed to make a chrono that isn't ugly, even gave it a good name, but then they go and make it huge at 43,2mm. Lets hope it's just the first one and they'll have enough reason to put the new movement into the smaller Series 9 case.
