/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - SHELL EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them an

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

is this whole boot scene just hype and exclusivity?
not even a year ago everyone cooms over Parkhurst
>is the Allen literally the PERFECT boot?
reviews from everyone, included in every clickbait top 10, it's fucking everywhere

limited runs mean they're sold out instantly, which creates hype and FOMO, people can't get them so they want them even more
they expand production and are regularly available, nobody gives a shit or talks about them anymore

did people finally realize they are same boring service boot everyone's seen a million times, but available in quirky meme leathers, which is the same thing truman and oak street does
or maybe expanding meant they had to slash the marketing and sponsorship budget and Nick from straightgays doesn't talk about you unless he gets paid

They came in a little perfumed bag with a handwritten thank you note, pretty cute

For my thinner socks I just buy M&S.
I know the French store sells Bresciani socks but it feels a bit like a scam to buy 25€ thin cotton socks. Somehow it feels alright if it's thick wool though.

I just returned a pair because they were a bit small for my brannock size. I hear good things for the price, for regular work you might get 8 months to a year out of them but the welt is plastic so if it cracks the boot is junk. After lots of searching I’ve decided the Timberland Premium is my perfect work boot, the direct attach is the strongest of the cemented constructions imo. For less money and a chunkier boot you can get the PRO version.

The leather around the edge of the sole is starting to separate, but the stitching isn't getting lose. >little too big
there's your answer
do yourself a favor and compare to another pair of boots you own. particularly the heel/midstep. the thing you want lined up most of all is the arch/midstep along with the widest part of the boot fitting along the box of your toe (widest part of your foot)
if you have all of that down there's not too much you can do. remember since your boot isn't MTO that it will never be a perfect fit.

Little of each
Americans own the vast majority of heritage boots, so they are selling to their market. Europe has to export most of their boots.
It also doesn't help that American customs is an absolute boondoggle that takes centuries to get even a single package through to their neighbors in Canada or Mexico so overseas is akin to sending it to the moon. The EU had to figure these issues out by design, so their shipping and customs is far more streamlined.

We believe in laissez-faire economics, which means the government passes laws to prevent smelly foreigners from competing with our homegrown businesses.
Now, if you're Toyota and want to open a car plant in Long Beach, you can do that. You're bringing jobs to the US so we can live with the fact that you're actually doing all the work in Baja Mexico and shipping them up here for the "Made in USA" sticker.
This is why C&J, EG, etc. needs to open a shop in Leon.

What are your opinions on Crockett and Jones sizing? I've never owned any handmade leather boots, only mass produced shit. I usually buy size 43 sneakers.

The chart they have on their website weirds me out though. My feet are ~270-272mm long which basically means I should pick size UK 9 or 9,5 according to them. These sizes are the equivalent of EU size 43-43,5 according to them but from what I've read on the internet you're definitely supposed to go down one size or half a size from your average sneaker size when buying handmade boots. 43-43,5 is the same or even going up a size though.

On primitive lasts, toeboxes tend to be big and bulging
So unstructured toeboxes is a way to de-clown your shoes
After a while it starts to look awful, but no one ever sells boots with photos of them worn for 1 year

Anyway, the solution is to not remove the structure but to get a better last.
