Sapphire crystal isnt actually that expensive. You can get a sapphire watch crystal on ebay for like 10gbp. So think how cheap it is for watch manufacturers to get em. Its a synthetic crystal that is mass produced for like 1gbp a pop instead of 1 penny a pop like glass crystal. I dunno if domed crystal is more expensive, i imagine it is but i cant imagine its that much more.

fuck if i know. To be fair you can get watches with sapphire crystals for like 130gbp here in uk. It isnt magical. It isnt even that much better than standard glass really.

nah. There are thousands of no-name vintage mechanical watches. If its 17 jewels it probably has a pin lever escapement which is cheap dogshit equivilent to a cheap quartz watch these days. I bought this thinking it would be a cool little vintage watch and it was 33mm and was out by like 6 hours per day lol

a.k.a. the I-don't-know-how-to-haggle price

Perhaps you aren't aware, but Middle Easterners of all strips fucking love haggling. It's a game to them.
If you're not used to it, it can be very off-putting.

The first time I went to my Persian rug dealer he threw out a price on this vintage silk piece and when my eyes bugged at what a rug could possibly cost he immediately add "...but I can knock 20% off that".
Now, I'm thinking...none of these price tags are real? We can just negotiate on price?

>> No.17522729

>>17522727
yeah in some trades if you don't haggle it's kind of a faux pas, like being an american and not talking about the Big Game at the start of a zoom call, you're just telling the other people that you think they're so far beneath you that they don't deserve the social graces

>> No.17522731

>>17522727
Yeah and its fucking annoying. All middle easterners are just jews trying to jew people as hard as possible. I state a price I'm willing to pay, they then try to haggle, I tell them I'm leaving, they continue to haggle, refuse my price but are so desperate to get the sale but not at my price.

I had a middle eastern girlfriend once, just wanted to argue over prices on fucking everything as if it was some bazaar like no bitch corporate sets those prices stop asking for discounts it just makes you look cheap. She would brag about getting a good deal on leasing a new car like no you bitch they're still fucking you with financing and other charges you cannot defeat and are generally shit with money.

Same with fucking indians, they're extra cheap and its just a game to try and get the lowest price which I somewhat understand but once a price is agreed upon, stop trying to change the deal or renege on the deal.

no

>Same with fucking indians, they're extra cheap and its just a game to try and get the lowest price which I somewhat understand but once a price is agreed upon, stop trying to change the deal or renege on the deal.
There's social expectations, and then there's the degree to which members of a society live up to those expectations

The indians reneging on the price are just plebs who understand that haggling is the expectation, but they don't understand the niceties of the haggle system

It's like people who understand that tipping is "optional" but they don't understand that it's not nearly as optional as they take it to be

Correction: Diashock and 20 bar are written with one font, but with different size on SARB, still looks weird.

Also keep in mind, both on older SARBs and on current Prospexes the compass bezel is quite free-moving because of the Seiko tolerances, and it's unlikely that you'll be able to align North and South with 12 and 6 most of the time.

Regardless of what I said, the Alpinist is the most expensive watch I own, and I like it a lot.

For the second time this week we are seeing competing threads, which is not only diminishing the value of /wt/ but dragging anon into some petty squabble between two OP's, at least one of which is attempting to raise a personal army and so prove himself the superior gatekeeper.
It's this type of inability to self-police that escalates into board wars, where other users of a board start to notice the multiple postings and becoming irritated, engage in mass-reporting campaigns.
I strongly suggest you two refrain from creating another /wt/ for a month and sort yourselves out, as there are plenty of other users who can pick up the slack when a general hits the bump limit.

bought my citizen at a legitimate shop last year and it seems to be a mixture between old and new spec (for example miyota 8203 printed on the dial but 8204 on the caseback and certainly in the watch). Has there ever been any kind of collectability in older watches with those kind of errors (in that price segment)?

Hello first time visiting the watch thread. Inherited this Tag 980.029n from my DEAD father, it’s what he wore when we would go deep sea fishing and crabbing etc so It’s got some wear. I also kinda want to lock it up in my safe and just get another watch that looks similar so it doesn’t get stolen id be crushed its got a lot of sentimental value as its one of the very few things of his I have any ideas on watches akin to the Tag 980.029? Is it even worth restoring this watch is it decent?

in all sincerity, you need to submit to the rightful lordship of your Creator and God: Jesus Christ

you were made in His image, being bequeathed with an immortal soul designed for the highest purpose of reflecting His glorious grace, and in nothing else will you find fulfilment
you need to surrender your life to His call on it, today: turning from your rebellious hatred and acknowledging Christ as King over, trusting Him to save you from the righteous wrath He has stored up against sinners

>The Father doesn't have an image.

that's an interesting take, but the issue you have there is thinking it requires a physical form for the character, or nature of a being to be reflected
when Christ is titled 'the image of the invisible God'* it speaks more to him having the attributes of the Divine Father, such as an Eternal Divinity from before the beginning, and being One in purpose with Him, than it does his looking like a reflection of any physical characteristics of the Father

thus when man is said to be made 'In Our image' by God in creation, it refers to that spirit Christ the Creator-God breathed into the clay
