yeah guys i think i'm gonna buy some higher end canvas sneakers as my next shoes, sorry if its not /tip/, i just have an odd partiality to this kind of sneaker.

i won't be buying them from converse though, that company is fucking gay and overhyped,
nothingnew.com does basically the same style of shoe but actually better quality (stitched sole instead of glued)

whats a good color to go for?
black would be more versatile, but not as stylish, while off-white ones would be more stylish with brown and light grey suits, but not so much navy and charcoal suits, or many other dark colors. maybe i should just go for black and buy a cheap walmart pair for the off-white ones until i find enough combos to justify getting the nice kind?

I got the tie in picrel from aliexpress, and I think it's pretty nice.
I think really my only requirements I have out of my ties is that they aren't overly soft, thickly-lined, and the pattern of the tie is actually a woven texture and not printed on. This tie meets all those criteria for me.

Sweater vests are made to be worn under a jacket. So your arms arent unnecessarily bulky or warm compared to your chest. Like a more casual alternative to waistcoat. There arent going to be many good inspo pics of vests without a jacket cause thats not the point.

Wasn't worth its own thread & there's no menswear thread:

It's Monday morning. Last night I was invited to a black tie event on Saturday night 3/11. I need a tux. My proportions are kind of weird; I'm slightly "jacked" so most jackets don't fit off the rack, but I know shortening the sleeves on a jacket can be done in that time frame. I would prefer investing in a good black-tie outfit over renting some mediocre thing from Men's Wearhouse, and I can spend up to $1500. I am in NYC. What do you think are my best options?

nice jacket, patch pockets are a classic. Don’t really like the tie. Ties should complement or outright match the colors of the jacket and slacks. Don’t get involved in the “power tie” meme. more of a personal taste matter, but button down shirt collars are not.. good. They tend to look disheveled. the wrinkled collar here is a massive eyesore and destroys the whole fit. Slacks are unremarkable. Recommend a nice tan/olive flannel, single or double pleated high rise slack. Also personal taste really
but, French cuffs look very sharp as opposed to just regular old convertible or barrel cuffs.
>>17515972
Colors and tie actually work great here. See previous comment on slacks. Only real critique I have is that the jacket quite obviously appears to be polyester, or a blend. Whole thing has these wavy wrinkles... Looks sorta cheap. Might look better freshly dry cleaned, otherwise I recommend a wool sportcoat, specifically tweed?
>>17517083
Looking great!! Fundamentals here are fantastic. I would prefer a more subdued tie but that’s all personal taste, also again with the button down collar and I’d prefer to see a French cuff. Slacks here are great and on the money!

I like dressing like this for work, but not outside of it. I think it's funny. My coworkers wear those new golf shirts made from synthetic, 3/4 zips sweaters and slim fit pants with stretch and synthetic material. I hate it.

I like to think I dress like a 1960 ivy league professor. It's my way to rebel and dress cool. If I have to dress up like a dork. Might as well have fun with it.

Typical: Brooks Brothers oxford with wool crew neck sweater, if cold.
Regular fit chinos/slacks
Penny loafers.
Timex on a NATO strap

I'm looking to go more all out. Upgrading with jackets and blazers on Ebay and thrift stores. Maybe some ties. Better shoes. Wool trousers. Any recommendations? I love J Press anything, but it's so expensive.

I had the same problem, as I have unusually wide feet for my shoe size. So I have some practical advice for you or anyone whose feet are outside the norm.
It is elaborate and cumbersome, but will work.
Find yourself a or multiple manufacturers, which offers shoes made from different lasts. Order all the shoes from the different lasts that might fit you in two sizes and widths (if available), wear them at home for a while (mind you dont wear the outsoles) and return them. Eventually you will find a last and size that will come closest to your own foot.
Now you will be able to order different styles of shoe all made on the same last for a long time. The reputable manufacturers never ditch them.

what brand of jewellery do I buy to not look cheap?
I want to gently introduce myself into wearing armbands and ring(s) but I don't really want a plain 20 euros kit made out of literal garbage.
On the other hand side I'm not wealthy enough to buy rings for 250 or some shit.
What's a respectable middleground?

Advice on where to get inexpensive 100% wool suits? I'm a commercial banker so I wear one every day. I've been buying Spier and Mackay but their new half-canvas stuff looks awful. I'd like to keep under $600.

And yes, the stereotypes about us are true. Every time I go to a corporate meeting with other bankers from the region I'm absolutely appalled at how terrible everyone looks. It's nothing but shiny fused Alfani suits with pin stripes and bedraggled ties with four-in-hand knots that look like they're only ever loosened and hung up as-is.

I almost gave up on the cross-dressing idea and decided to look for a new Bedale until I realised that Barbour restricts their products from being exported outside of teh UK, the EU, and on some websites the US.

Picrel is the British pajeet PM wearing a Beadnell just fine which is quite reassuring. 90%+ of people wouldn't notice the buttons anyway.

Depends, if everyone already knows you as the sartorial/preppy/classy guy, you might get away with it. But consider this: All those different detachable starched collars came from a time where suits were quite different. Way higher closing, way less shirt visible, etc. Found a pic of the last German Emperor and his son, where you have a wingtip collar and a higher rise folding one. If you dont match or approach the overall look, it would just look goofy. So in this case better leave the wing collars for black and white tie.
