>So I got my vintage bottle of Pour in homme de Caron... Is it normal that it smells kind of sour up close? Just getting a whiff of it it's fine, mostly vanilla, but I wonder if some ingredient went bad.
Actually after spraying some on tonight, I bet a bit of a sour note from my modern version too. I think it’s a combination of the musk and lavender. More of a fermented sour funk than something spoiled sour. I really love Caron pour un homme. Hope you comment back after a full wearing or two.

How cheap
Pasha de Cartier Parfum is my go-to for "I just don't want to think, I know I will enjoy this" it's about $85 for 100ml at discounters so not cheap cheap but not very expensive.
I like every note in it. I think this note listing is pretty much correct. Maybe this ambrocenide contributes to my love of it since that's not in very many fragrances.

SOTD $13 shipped vintage bottle of Aubusson homme. Smelled nasty and old at first but after 10 minutes it got much better. Like grass wet with orange juice, with some floral notes in the background.
The notes say orange but it's not identifiably orange to me just citrusy + floral with dominant citrus. Bordering on smelling like a cleaning product but not too similar to any that I know so it's not immediately reminiscent of one. Not that that should be bad, cleaning products are intended to smell good.
Seems like a good spring or summer scent.

you just don't like it, it does not smell bad and cheap at all. It has not a great performance and it is quite linear just as most frags at that price range, but you can smell a soothing, sweet but aromatic tobacco that reminds of a tame and relatively sweet lavender scent, which is perfect for autumn or nights at home.
It greatly capture its name, bottle and box aesthetic without misleading you, it smells exactly as it looks.
That is, if you are not a retarded consoomer nichefag that likes what its expensive and obscure just for the sake of it like most of this thread.

That’s how I made a lot of my purchases. Caron l’anarchist with the copper bottle is one that has been discontinued and you can still find for cheap. It’s an interesting take on the classic masculine structure. I like it, and it’s not nearly as uneasy as the reviews make it out to be. I think in time it’ll go up in value too.

I will take some time eventually (like maybe next year not soon) to pick out all the bottles that I don't love and take photos and list for sale, whether a profit or loss doesn't matter much I'll probably price them to sell quickly and just clear up space. It's just a big effort to organize, pack, ship and track everything. Hopefully some will be hard to find by then and I can ask a bit more.

Metal anon here,
I tried H24 today and it's weird. Began with a creamy banana, 20 minutes in it's strong toilet cleaner near skin and gets metallic further away. But boy is the toilet cleaner strong. Smells different on skin vs sleeves where it rubbed off. Quite the trip but I won't be returning to it, I guess my interests lie more experimental/unisex. Thanks for the recc though, I'll try to work through others in the coming days.

On another note, how are Demeter/Library of Fragrance? I've been eyeing Thunderstorm for years now and just recently noticed Notino carrying them in EU.

One poster who was told the image he kept spamming and got 0 replies from wasnt funny, he doubled down and started spamming it more and still only gets replies that are "why is this being posted?".
The thread is full of people who cant take legitimate discussions or criticisms without trying to turn it into an "epic btfo thread" or whatever.
Its pretty difficult to have legitimate discussion in the thread these days for these reasons.
The thread is probably saturated with people who are probably either underaged or have those negative personality characteristics that make it difficult to engage in meaningful non negative interactions with other people.

Put on Franck Olivier Eau de Passion after my shower, first try of it. Supposed to be really similar to Chanel Platinum Egoiste which I have not personally tried. Smells like many other floral masculine scents, strong geranium and lavender mix, but I also get some citruses and spices in there. Not bad at all. Pretty fresh, but I think appropriate for any season, it's not too bright or aquatic. Performance so far is above average, I can smell it while sitting completely still.

Hot as fuck

>Provide your ideal price range for buying a recommended frag.
I don´t have a range. I'm experimenting so I don´t want to spend a lot

>Provide some details on what type of scent you are looking for (favorite notes and accords, hated notes and accords, etc.)
Absolute fragancelet, I would not be able to know nor tell what my favorite "note" or accord" is. I like the smell of sandalwood, I dislike the smell of cheese.

>Provide some details on your intended aesthetic and setting for wearing a scent (frag for school, the office, dates, casual daily wear, etc.)
Mostly casual. Maybe office setting. I think it would be safe to say the frangance is mostly for me because I will be the one smelling it most of the time. I like the idea of going to sleep smelling good.

Pic related are my first options based on availability in my area and decent deals. I would like to start by picking one of those as my "signature" fragance.

Most zoomer thing said in these threads
Rich people spend hilarious amounts of money and never save, it's not about knowing when to save but how to play the game and get the credits.
But frags are not high tech or jewelry, even the top-tier frags can be bought if one plans for a month or two, but might be a considerable venture if one plans to daily drive expensive shit like Creed or some discontinued bottle.

depending on where you live, going to the mall can be pretty discouraging. the mall nearest me has macy's and nordstrom. macy's is mostly a lot of stuff that is weak and smells the same. nordstrom has that stuff too, but also a bunch of Tom Ford some of which can be interesting but too expensive. further away is one that has Neiman Marcus and Saks and has a lot of good stuff, but even more expensive

I know we like to shit on ecelebs but watch perfume youtubers. you don't have to trust their opinions and even if you do their taste might make them love stuff that you hate. but at the very least you'll hear about a lot of stuff and some will emerge as what you want to try.

order 0.7ml samples and dab a different one on each day. this is better than spraying at the mall because you should be able to get a few wearings out of a tiny sample and form an opinion.

fragrantica users are retarded and I don't trust them, especially when it comes to clones. most of the ones who voted probably haven't even smelled it, just heard some youtuber recommend it or something
I remember one anon here was also a fan of PE and looking for cheaper / better performing replacements, so that's why I'm asking

>> No.17495854

>>17495846
Several reviews on it seem to be from people that have tried both saying it's similar but without "metallic notes"
Eau de passion performance on me is 12+ hours with 4 or so of sillage which is above average. It is a familiar scent especially in the drydown, I am sure I smelled PE a lot as a child in the 90s, it reminds me of the cologne mixed with sweat smell in a gym locker room which is probably where I smelled it.

Most interesting house of all time imo, a ridiculous amount of oddball and unique releases. i enjoy them but too artistic and weird to really wear and pull it off personally

>> No.17495863

>>17495838
I've recently tested Montblanc Legend Eau de Parfum and the drydown was close enough to PE to call it similar and the overall scent profile was kinda nice, unlike with Eau de Passion Men. EDPM smells good at the start but then turns weird. PE has this really enjoyable rosemary note, which you can similarly find in Beau de Jour (hidden under the other stuff), and it's a bit "off" smelling in EDPM. Gave me a plastic smell further in the drydown. That being said, the opening of Legend EdP was kinda weird and a bit sweet, but it faded in the drydown. If you want to get as close to the real deal as possible, only the real deal will suffice. If you search for something good and cheap, there's a myriad of similar fragrances out there. Can't say anything about CK Eternity, as I haven't tested that. The advantage of the CK frag will be that it was created as "its own thing" and not a clone, so it might be better balanced, as a proper perfumer worked on it.

>> No.17495868

>>17495854
Yeah well, you probably smelled A&F Fierce. Also, I don't get better performance out of EDPM than I get out of PE, and certainly not 12 hours.

First i would go round your local beauty shops and just sample some basic frags on the test strips to see what you like and get to know the range of different scents. Then go to somewhere like zara and pick out your most favourite one from there. Zara frags are good because they are so cheap you can experiment with what you like and you don't feel like shit if you blind buy them. Signiature fragrances are only really a thing if you are wearing a slightly stranger and more unique fragrance, not with one of these more basic frags. Wither way those options you picked are all pretty good starters, although a bit uninspiring and plain.

It's a price tracker, you full-price-payer. Prices are never steady and discount codes might appear at any time. With a price tracker, you can get informed about hitting your desired price target for e.g. a fragrance. If you want a frag and have the time to wait, you can easily get a lot of stuff far below "retail". The merchants even use trickery to avoid having their prices scanned, because they know it's a bad deal for them in the end (although you're still paying the hefty smelly water markup, so fuck them, I'll take what I can get).

Im not saying this to be mean or put you down, but DHI is an absolute compliment monster. It’s extremely low hanging fruit. To be honest other people enjoy it more than I enjoy it myself. I enjoy knowing that other people enjoy it. Have you considered that if it doesn’t give you compliments, DHI isn’t the problem, YOU are the problem. If DHI doesn’t get you compliments, nothing will.

Maybe you are just carrying yourself in a way that makes you creepy/unpleasant that people don’t want to give you a compliment. You should work on yourself. This is a very hard pill to swallow and I’m not saying this to be dick, I’m trying to help you and other anons improve yourselves.

It’s funny, the anons who tried DHI and didn’t like it because it didn’t get them compliments are outing themselves as creepy neckbeards that nobody likes.

Anons who enjoy DHI and gets compliments are demanchads that people aren’t scared to give a compliment because they aren’t creepy.

you would think so, but DHI has been genuinly my MOST COMPLIMENETED fragrance ever, and it has also been the only fragrance that felt like an actual needle mover when it came to dating, whilst other fragrances can add 0.25 - 0.5 if you had to put them on a scale, they complete the look, set the mood etc. DHI felt like it added 1.0 maybe even 1.25, which for just a fragrance is fucking ridiculous, and because of those experiences it boosted my confidence even more. Try it for yourself. It might just make you feel like a man for the first time in your life, and if you have never had a father, it might just make you understand how big is the hole in your psyche that you need to fill out yourself.
