Depends on the type of leather boot you want.
>Hiking
Get some lace-to-toe leather boots instead of combat boots. Your feet will thank you. The ability to choose the lacing the whole way up the foot is a huge plus.

They're more expensive for sure, but you pay for more boot. They'll typically last longer and take more punishment. Danner makes the Mountain Light hiking boots, which are ~$400. If that's too expensive, Chippewa makes their roofer boots which are the same concept for ~$250. Georgia boots are cheaper with their logger lace-to-toe boots at ~$180

>> No.17478079

Another thing I like about combat boots is how high they go up on my leg. I go to areas with lots of ticks, leeches, and snakes. So I like to have as much coverage as possible on my legs. It seems like hiking boots are always ankle or high top length

The mistake you're making is wearing the same pair of footwear 24/7 and expecting them to be fine. They won't.
You need at least two pairs in a rotation, or 3 if you really have a acid monkey sweat problem. Some people do as their body chemistry is overwhelmingly low ph for some reason.
Two/three pairs of whatever, when you take off a pair let it dry for a bit, longer if you're in a cold and wet environs where things don't try easily on their own, then slip in some shoe/boot trees. Cedar wood preferred. The next day you DON'T wear that pair, and instead wear the other pair. Repeat the cycle.
Avoid leather soles if you're worried about speedy wear. Shouldn't use leather soles in wet conditions anyway as they deteriorate 10x faster when wet.
Get more than one pair of whatever it is.

Does anyone have first hand experience with Thursday? I've seen the horror pics reposted on /btg/ but not sure if those are unfortunate exceptions or the norm.
I've been thinking about getting moc toes in crepe sole but I'm unsure if that type of boot will really suit me. The Diplomat looks like a cheaper alternative to Red Wing mocs which I was considering too, but they're almost double the price.

A lot of cheap boot alternatives will just result in your sole ripping off from the uppers or stitching on the uppers falling apart in general. The reason these boots are cheap is not just cheap quality of materials, but because they put in the least amount of time and effort to stitch the uppers and welt the boot

Yeah, but the thing is I've been wearing cheap shoes and boots, about 50 bucks on sale, for years and they have held up quite well. I do not understand how some 200 boots that are sold as quality boots can fall apart in two weeks on a regular basis. That's what baffles me about Thursday, how many boots do they sell and what percentage is faulty? Horror stories spread fast, if it's something not overblown, how come they haven't gone under yet?
Not that it really matters to me. Even if I didn't have doubts about Thursday, the Red Wings look so much better. I just need to save up a bit more.

they spend more money on advertising than on building boots. look at the number of instagram and youtube influencers that shill thursdays. they rely on preying on the poors who do not know better, and yes turdsdays might be a slight upgrade to the mall trash fashion boots they're used to, but its not hard to improve on trash and at the end of the day they are still trash.

you'll notice the same discontent with the quality of the other products turdsday offer like their belts and jackets

Until recently Steinkogler didn't bother selling them outside of Austria, but they have a page in english now aling international shipping, so I guess they finally decided to tackle that market, perhaps because they lost the army as a customer, at least for this product.
Bear in mind that the new ones come linex, while the surpluss didn't.

I actually don't know a ton about it. I bought the boots at a military surplus store and they were already like that. The tag even specified that they were "painted". I assumed it was something the original owner had done to get out of having to shine his boots as often. A couple months later I happened to run into a guy at a restaurant who had actually earned his jump boots in the military and struck up a conversation. He told me that it was "boot black" and that it's just a kind of permanent shine some guys have put on. I wouldn't normally go for something like that personally but they were the only pair in the shop in my size, they're a great fit, were close to new when I picked them up, and only set me back $80.

If anyone knows more about this painting process I'd be interested. I haven't really looked into it.

im a total boot noobie, only ever having snow boots and getting gifted a pair of doc martens that fell apart. ive settled into trying to find a boot at the approx 200-250 USD price range, so far only yanko(pic rel) and some military surplus shite seem to have value at that price. am i way off base on this? is there other boots/companies that i should be looking at?
i dont need boots for work or shoveling out the driveway, although i live in New England so i am hoping for some protection from the cold, but its not of a super critical importance. i hike and camp a great deal but usually i do that barefoot or with actual hiking shoes, that being said i really dont know what tangibly makes a boot good for the /wood/s, besides having a properly grippy sole.
as you can see i am very clueless any help would be appreciated <3
