It is. I haven't smelled Layton Exclusif. I have tested their popular offerings at the store, even bought samples of the ones I liked. I was always able to find the DNA elsewhere. For Layton, it's a mix of the Boss Bottled Intense EdP, which has sadly been discontinued, and L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme. I'm not gonna bother going around testing all the offerings of an overpriced clone house only to realize I can get it cheaper elsewhere (and somehow there's always Dior, Chanel or Guerlain involved).
SOTD is actually LIDG. It's Layton but for men, not girls.

Where do beaufort london and lalique fall in?

>> No.17459082

>>17459077
Beaufort is shown on the left.
Lalique is a weird one, but probably niche-like. They own Gres and Alain Delon (both based), they make the juice for Brioni (very mid), they make the really popular and hyped Bentley stuff as well as the drug-store tier Jaguar stuff. They still have some old school and daring offerings, but their portfolio includes fragrances to match the current tastes. Overall, they are drifting towards the right side but are still on the left as of now. Now be aware that this is my personal opinion and not the opinion of the maker of that image (and that that image is also not part of the OP of this general).
Chanel is another "linewalker", in my opinion. Diverse offerings, but it's a private company which hasn't sold out yet.

Guerlain is the best fragrance house for men for a variety of reasons, namely their illustrious history and their association with Napoleon Bonaparte. Established in 1828, Guerlain was founded by Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain, and quickly became a favorite of the French royalty and aristocracy. In 1853, the house received its first accolade for its Eau de Cologne Impériale, presented to Emperor Napoleon III. This same fragrance was also presented to the Emperor's wife, Empress Eugénie, and was a favorite of the royal court.

In addition to its royal heritage, Guerlain's fragrances possess an unparalleled distinction and sophistication. Their fragrances are renowned for their ability to inspire and captivate with their exquisite aromas and classic designs. With their signature scents of jasmine, lavender, and sandalwood, Guerlain's fragrances have the power to evoke timeless emotions and memories.

Given Guerlain's impressive history and the exquisite quality of their fragrances, it would be foolish not to wear them. They are the epitome of luxury and elegance, and are sure to make any man stand out from the crowd.

>> No.17459168

Oh darling, of course Guerlain is the best fragrance in the world! It has a Nobel history with Napoleon, and is unlike any other fragrance. It is a classic scent that has been around for centuries and is known for its luxurious and sophisticated notes. Plus, it's the perfect combination of modern and classic elegance.

Now, Dior Homme is the gayest fragrance in the world! It is the perfect fragrance for anyone who loves a little bit of sparkle and glam. With its sweet and woody notes, it is sure to turn heads and make you feel like the most fabulous person in the room.

Givenchy Gentleman is a great DRY and DARK fougere. It has a strong presence of leather, tobacco, patchouli and vetiver. It's a masculine, mysterious scent that is sure to turn heads. Cartier fragrances? *eyeroll* What kind of bourgeois nonsense is this? Y'all tryin' to make us believe that some fancy French jewelry company has fragrances? Yeah right, like they got some magical potion they can just spritz on us and make us smell fancy. Pshhh.

But hey, I guess if you got money to blow on that sorta stuff, go ahead. Cartier fragrances have been around since 1981, when they released their first unisex scent. Since then, they've released over 50 perfumes and colognes. Some of them are pretty nice, I guess, but most of it's overpriced and overhyped.

Funnily enough, Sauvage does slightly fit the bill. While it is a spicy showergel fragrance, it isn't overly sweet (in my opinion). Starts off with a pepper blast and goes into the aforementioned showergel territory. Of course, the main gripe most people have with it is how overused it is.
1 Million is sweet, and while many people liken it to bubblegum, it's not bubblegum-sweet. The cinnamon-leather drydown is really nice. Fahrenheit is based and seems to be making a comeback. From what I've heard, the latest reformulations are on point in terms of scent as well. It is an older fragrance and might smell like an older fragrance to some, but it does fit the bill. Kouros was rather fresh to me, but too much urinal cake. I haven't smelled Gentlemen, but the accords on fragrantica might be slightly telling. "Fruity" and "sweet" are high on the list, but I think that the original recommendation was for the 1974 version of Gentlemen. That juice does no longer exist.

Waiting for my Bianchi's Sticky Lips-release to arrive in the mail, hard to find any discussion about it online. I really hope the rose is somewhat on the resinuous and red side if there are animalic notes (as most Bianchis) and powderiness to it. Also have Iris Malikhan coming as soon as Essenza fucking ships my bottle which I have soon been waiting for 2 months.

My next buy is probably one of the following:
>Parfum d'Empire: Le Cri
just a fantastic, almost transcendental rose. when I think of a sophisticated fragrance, this is it.
>Papillon Perfumes: Tobacco Rose
after going through most of my 5 ml along the past year I was sure I would never, ever be associated to this fragrance again. it was too green, too fresh. but I feel like my taste has changed and the later drydown of Tobacco Rose has so nice, sweet elements to it. it's almost like there was honey lieing in the very base that comes through after the bitter and vegetal start. Papillon is such a great house.
>Hiram Green: Arbole, Arbole
sampling Arbole didn't really make me too excited, but now after working with Arcadia I really love the concept and the quality of Hiram's fragrances. I would love to buy Slowdive but I feel like it's a little too unwearable, and Arbole Arbole is second in the line.
>Beaufort London: Acrasia
This is a little premature since I'm just waiting for my sample, but based on the notes this might be a bottle that I'm going for next.
>Rania J: Musc Muschous
Another fragrance where the notes seem to tick everything that I'm currently going for. Waiting for sample.
>something by Les Indemodables
I really enjoyed Antoine Lie's work with this house. just not sure which of the fragrances would be a bottle, so I might still go for a second round of samples.

The smell is nice but someone in this general once wrote that the best fragrance is one that jives with your natural BO and I think that makes a lot of sense.

Guerlain Vetiver is a classic men's fragrance that was first released in 1961. It is a woody, earthy fragrance with tobacco notes and a hint of citrus. The top notes consist of lemon, bergamot, and pepper. The middle notes consist of vetiver, tobacco, and oakmoss, and the base notes consist of tonka bean, cedarwood, and patchouli.

Over the years, Guerlain Vetiver has become a classic men's fragrance, and is still popular today. The tobacco notes are the star of the show in this fragrance, creating a smoky, masculine scent. The citrus and pepper top notes give it a sharp, fresh start, and the vetiver, oakmoss, and patchouli in the middle and base notes provide a woody, earthy undertone.

Overall, Guerlain Vetiver is a classic, timeless men's fragrance that has stood the test of time. Its tobacco notes give it a smoky, masculine scent that is perfect for any occasion.

It is out of the box bros. Not sure if anyone will recognise it but a gorgeous vintage styled fruity chypre. I feel as though in a way Sacred Scarab by Zoologist took a certain feeling or accord of Kolonya and turned it into a resinous chypre. This in turn feels like Rasei took Sacred Scarab and put his accords prominently in view again in the form of a chypre (this is obviously not literally possible since both releases were worked on probably similar times, it is just a way to express the idea of this perfume). Sadly I don't think anything can really capture what Kolonya was, even his own work, for how reminiscent it is, never really captures that certain mixture he made in his magnum opus. I think why I compare it so heavily is because of some base or accord he came up with, I've heard several people talk of Andy Tauer and other perfumers and how they have their own "tauerium" and so forth to mark their work with a familiar and signature style, so too does Rasei do this, sometimes moreso than others.

Review aside, box posting was all just in good fun, bring some life and fun to this thread while I unbox my new frag, I have a tight collection and aside from my boring work safe frags I don't bother splurging on anything I don't find resonance with. Sadly this is a limited release but I do hope his main line-up reincorporates some of these ideas. I see some votes in fragrantica linking this to All the Queens Men, how I do not understand, they are nothing alike. Also like I alluded, it is not like Kolonya but regardless it is great in its own right. Try if you can.

Ah nah it really doesn't have any relation to Kolonya, think I made it sound somewhat confusing because I somehow forgot to mention the name of this frag. This is his new limited release, Under Which Rivers Flow, it's his first foray into chypre (though he doesn't label it as such anymore, he used to on his insta but I think it veered too far off what he would think a chypre is or something?). I mention Kolonya because some people compare it and because it has his signature fruity style that is slightly reminiscent of it (people compare Impressions de Giverny and Fatih Sultan Mehmed to kolonya for similar reasons). Ultimately Kolonya is fresher and manages to find complexity and real depth in the realm of a light and warm weather fragrance, which to me is deeply impressive. I love Kolonya and am sad I will one day run out, this is not a substitute, nor any of the fragrances people compare Kolonya to.

>>17461186
Actually part of the reason I actually bought it, I love the juice personally but it was a bit much to justify. The bottle being as nice as it is made me think of it more as an art piece or to be reused for another frag etc.

Felt like I was drunk of rum wearing my leather jacket in an old library. It's great but I decided I don't want to daily it. Rake would be this but if I had entered the library after having smoked cigs in the freezing winter. Gonna try Noir next to see if I buy that or Terror. Terror I like better and is a safer fragrance, but Noir is more unique, which is making it harder to decide. Fathom I'm probably getting for the summer anyways. Unless I find something else, because having different fragrances from the same house seems like a waste, when I can explore more. Armis is also a good one.

After shower I am testing this one by Oswald Pare. Initial huge blast of pine quickly calms down to a soapy fresh pine scent with some floral notes just hinted at. Not my favorite woody smell but incredibly well executed. The description is spot on:
> Resinous pine bound by sweet, musky florals to jammy balsams and patchouli-spiced red cedar. A deep breath of fresh mountain air.
okay no air smells this intense, it's more like smelling a sappy pinecone if you could magnify that scent 50x.
My first trial of 4 samples of Oswald's fragrances, if they're all this well done then I can't wait for the next one.

My initial impression is that I like the smell of the Parfum more than Wave but I have to give them both a proper wear next week
I get the similarities to BdC for the Parfum and I do think it's worth the price right off the bat
For the Wave, it's not a bad scent but there is a note in opening/early portion that's not quite to my liking. Haven't formed a solid opinion on it yet. Granted it's still cold in my area so perhaps the scent changes in the heat as Wave is supposed to be a warm weather scent.
Haven't smelled Allure Homme Sport or Versace pour Homme so I can't say if it does smell like it's touted competitors.

Imagine a fragrance (an imaginary one, really). It's worn by a hot dog salesman in New York. A guy dressed in a suit working for a big law firm wearing the same fragrance buys a hot dog from that salesman. The way the hot dog salesman smells like is Missoni Parfum/Wave, the way the suit smells like would be Chanel AHS/BdC. They are different in their context and you can smell the difference in price as well (which is a common theme with anything that tries to come close to Chanel fragrances).

Based. The nice thing about Middle Eastern clone frags is that you think you can get into the game for cheap because they are rated so well. When you smell the real deal later on, you realize that you got properly duped and that online poorfags have fucked with ratings because they couldn't afford the real deal. very much incomparable, the guerlain style is lovely but the fruitiness is incomparable between the two (I feel rasei likes to use osmanthus for his apricot accord potentially) and there just isn't as much of a mossy and spicy vibe to it, more resinous and animalic I'd say

So now I'm testing this one
>Éclat de Santal
>NOTES:Indian sandalwood,Hawaiian sandalwood,Caledonian sandalwood,Patchouli heart,Guaiac wood,Texas cedarwood,Ambrette,Iris,Orange blossom,Bergamot ,Neroli.

First thoughts - hey look a "santal" where I can actually smell the sandalwood right away. I can also smell the cedar and iris. Why mix in cedar? I love sandalwood but unfortunately the sharpness of the cedar is taking away from it.
I don't think my ideal sandalwood scent exists - it would be mostly sandalwood with some resinous amber to add depth, and that's it. No florals, no other woods. Maybe something spicy on top like cumin, just a pinch. With a focus on longevity over projection.

>> No.17462392

Overall judgement after an hour - the drydown is more floral than I'd like, and it has already weakened to a skin scent. I had high hopes for this brand (Motif Olfactif), maybe because I just like their bottles, but #2 of 4 samples in and I'm not impressed enough to drop $150 on one. The scents are well done and unique but not performing well or matching my tastes.
