Yeah, it's a bad faith argument. When you say "milsurp" and ask if it can mix with TIP, you're obviously not asking if trench coats and khaki pants and desert boots are TIP, because they obviously are. You're asking if you can wear flecktarn and spetsnaz boots with a TIP fit and not look ridiculous, and the answer is generally "no." If you're going for the TIP aesthetic but like milsurp, that's fine, but save it for an appropriate situation like going hunting.

I'd say I take a middle ground on this issue. Clothes that would be worn in combat 1970s-onward would clash, because combat gear from then on has been so drastically different from normal clothing. Earlier than that could possibly work, depending on the item. There are a lot of WWII items that can work with TIP clothes while still having more of an obviously military appearance than older heritage items like trench coats. Pic rel is a menswear blogger I like wearing a vintage Marine Corps service jacket with a TIP resort outfit.

From what I could read Carmina is a good brand, but sadly these are not in stock in my size, and I'd be a bit worried ordering shoes that expensive from a website that does not offer free returns.

Any tips on some solid brands? Doesn't have to be absolute top tier if I can get some decent quality at $200-300. Preferably from inside the EU

I've been buying shirts from them for eight years, I still have the original shirts I bought. They hold up well, and being able to pick your collar, sleeve and overall fit means even if you have weird proportions like me (long arms skinny chest) you'll be able to find a shirt you can wear right off the rack. Like any non bespoke shirt they will look better with some minor tailoring but overall I think they're great.

I'm not sure if you're looking for some 'gotcha' moment, but I'm afraid I'm not the one who's got egg on his face here lad. What you've quoted and the fallacy you've got from Wikipedia are two very separate things. If I was doing what is written in that Wikipedia page I would be arguing that my right to have an opinion is paramount and would void any criticism against any such opinion, that simply isn't the case. I've said that you are more than welcome to be critical of my choices, but respectfully I disagree with your view and I stand by my decisions. For me to essentially say "you are allowed to critique my choices but I disagree for the reasons stated" is not equal to "I have an opinion and you aren't allowed to criticise it or disagree because I have a right to an opinion".

Don't start your wardrobe from zero, you will literally be larping & it will really look awful. To one day decide you're "prep" and then buy all of >>17463179 would be absurd. Take a step back and give yourself like a year to deliberate a total style change, otherwise take baby steps (wear a white poplin shirt with your chinos or jeans maybe, and a lightweight and conservative jacket if you want to be more "daring").

But what is wrong with your current clothes? Are they just "bad" now because they aren't "formal and dignified like clothing used to be"?

>>17463179
Really no offense --and I do like classic menswear--, but the fact that you can just make a kind of grocery list makes this so painfully stale. That's a regular person's entire wardrobe, and it's so boring and uniform without even being actually derived from a contemporary lifestyle's clothing demands, let alone derived from the lifestyle of someone who would buy into this fashion sense (read "buy into" again). No matter how versatile this is or how much of a canvas it can be for more "unique pieces" or how much of a "blueprint" it is for one's smaller style choices, it is just ridiculous.

>the fact that you can just make a kind of grocery list makes this so painfully stale
The guy literally asked for a grocery list, so people gave him some. Theres nothing about that sequence of events that is somehow a dramatic indictment of the fashion style. You could make a list of similar length for any kind of fashion, and that would not imply that the style is confined to those items. There's a lot of room for variance of the specifics within them, and plenty of variance in complementary items outside of them.

I really dislike this style of post. Its hard to describe, but its similar to concern trolling. You claim to appreciate the subject, yet it feels like you're looking for ways to undermine it at every turn.

>>17463506

>>17463519
it had nothing to do with the style or what the other guy was recommending, I just meant that "becoming" or suddenly "adopting" a style is just unnatural and gross. Also, I don't like prep or any "style", I just like menswear (bare with me). It's better for menswear really if it is more than an expensive hobby and a small obsession, which is what it seems to be for a lot of prep or whatever-else people, but rather just a part of their wardrobe. The best-dressed men who ever wore suits were people who just happened to be wearing a suit that day. This is preachy, but anyway I just meant it shouldn't be contrived.

All this philosophical stuff is really boring and, judging by his reply, none of your assumptions were actually correct anyways so its all irrelevant.

The problem with your whole line of thinking is that, at this point, the line of menswear has been completely severed for most guys in America. In the past, people would experiment with the kind of clothing their fathers wore, innovating within what society considered acceptable dress. Now many guys' fathers just wear t-shirts and jeans, and societal standards for everything have eroded into nothing. In that context, many young guys are going to start from scratch, without that kind of lovely effortless menswear wardrobe mindset you describe. So preaching that they should just have that instead of trying to look into particular styles for inspiration is pointless concern trolling. And again, really boring.

It's obviously contrary to fashion as a hobby in general & maybe provocative, sorry guys. But I can't help saying something like that to someone who wants to decide on a new style. It just gives me flashbacks of writing embarrassing lists of what kind of "style" I wanted to have every new year and wanting to reinvent it and make it work, and then blowing money on it, and then hating it after 3-6 months.

its hard to tell how the suit fits from your close ups. You 100% need a shirt with a bigger, longer collar for this. Something about the tie rubs me the wrong way, like others have said, It might be the lighting but the color seems to clash.

>>17461100
>>17461493
if you actually want to make this more TIP then higher rise pants that are less tapered are the first thing. Second would be a button down or crewneck sweater as your tops. Third would be to focus on lower contrast pieces.

On the other hand, you don't really look like you want to be TIP, just work appropriate. I still think higher rise pants are a good idea, to balance out your proportions. I'd also still consider more muted pants and adding a sweater or light jacket (maybe a shirt jacket) as a top layer. Try a white or grey button down and tees without graphics.

part of the issue is that a list of clothing items, even with colors, doesn't really help someone buy the right stuff. I know op asked for a list, but maybe think whether he even knows enough for that list to be more useful than something else, like a list of stores (which is also there to be fair)

looks ok, but room for improvement:
-shirt collar would ideally stay inside the sweater. It also looks overly formal for the casualness of the rest of the fit. Try a button down collar in a color or more textured fabric.
-pants cuff is sloppy and doesn't transiftion nicely to the shoes. Try wearing them uncuffed. Also consider less skinny pants if you want to up the formality.
-shoes are pretty casual when the pants are rolled up like that, longer pants would make them fit better overall
-I like the fit of the sweater and the colors on everything go nicely
