I don't find Zino and Beau de Jour that similar at all. Beau de Jour is definitely in my top 3 frags but Zino is too old school and dense for my taste. Has a lot more notes too. Of course, both Zino and EN Sport are inexpensive, so you could just try them.

EN Sport is the weakest in the EN line imo, I would say stick with the original.

Got this blind after reading all the reviews saying it's a near 100% clone of ombre leather (which I own but wanted something I could use more liberally for everyday wear). yeah, agree. Among the designer houses, Chanel and Dior are the highest quality, Prada and YSL slightly lower quality, and Versace the worst.

If you're after a blue fragrance, BdC is the most refined, Sauvage a little more in your face. If you can't afford those, Prada Luna Rossa Carbon is a pretty good imitation of Sauvage and can be had a little cheaper. Luna Rossa Ocean takes it in a different direction but is also fine. YSL Y is a bit controversial but the EdP is fine if you are young, the Parfum tones it down for a little more maturity.

Dylan Blue is more affordable than any of the above, that's the only thing it has going for it IMO.

I would really like to have it like that, but All the malls here died in the 2010s. And the only thing even related in the one like 45 minutes from me is a bath and bodyworks. Yeah It's just way easier to spend 30 bucks and like an hour of my time to look up and order some scents to try out than it is to spend 20 bucks on gas and a whole afternoon to go to one of the bigger cities to try out fragrances. And yes the city in question is a big enough shithole to encourage me to not go there. I like not having to step over homeless dudes tweaking out on the sidewalk.

Um, it wouldn't happen to be Manchester NH would it? Because it's exactly the same where I live. 40 minutes to bath and body works at the Tilton outlets and some outlet stores that probably don't have samples beyond a tester bottle in store, or an hour to Manchester which has Macy's and some other shit in the mall, and also a lot of homeless and junkies hanging around, although probably not in the mall. There was a mall in Concord but now it's like a charter school and gym and all the stores are closed except JC Penney which has like one employee working the whole store.

So yeah I just order samples and decants online and pay $2-8 for each and do research hoping I'll like them first.

I really don't get the anti-sample guy's point. I mostly test in stores too, but some frags are very hard to find in stores
not to mention, samples let you try the frag out in peace, spray it on whenever you want etc. not the same experience as trying it on at a store at all
and finally, you are getting a tiny bottle of a frag that you can even take with you on some trip or show to a friend. how is that not worth 2$ or whatever?

Relative noob here but maybe helpful if we have similar taste:
I love BDC parfum and it is one of 3 frags I currently have a bottle of, others are YSL l’homme (ginger, tonka, worn for over 10 years at this point so nostalgic for me) and Gucci Guilty pour homme EDP (spicy dark balsamic rose, my date night scent)

I recently sampled a bunch of stuff at Sephora including all the other “blue” scents like sauvage, Y and Dylan blue and they did absolutely nothing for me, even actively disliked Y edp, none of them compare to BDC imo
(actually sauvage elixir was pretty nice but different and incredibly strong)
I did like Jazz Club and Ombré Leather for something entirely different

>The water slips over him as if sliding down a marble rock, sinking into the grooves of his muscles, vanishing into his pores. This is fresh, pure water, with top notes of aldehydes and lemon, a water that washes away the sins of the night and leaves the skin luminous. Tom of Finland feels clean, like a shaving from a cake of soap. It is an ode to the beauty of the male body and to the radiance of the natural self. For this man, clothing becomes a jewel-case that serves to reveal the true erotic power of the flesh. Tom of Finland is a breath of fresh air, offering unrestricted access to the immense outdoors, the depths of the forest, with notes of birch leaves, cypress, galbanum and pine at its heart. Straight, gay... these words are irrelevant here. Tom of Finland is beyond sexuality – he is sex, in all its fullness and magnitude, open and erect. Fantasy clings to him like his leather jacket, with suede, musk, and gray amber in the base notes. His belt is fastened with an accord of pepper and spicy-fresh saffron, tangled with a blond suede sensuality on a vanilla bed of tonka bean and iris. This is a man who wants to play, to love, to die and be reborn, again and again. Tom of Finland is a tribute to tomorrow’s glorious possibilities.

Vetiver-forward fragrances are dead boring to me as well.
If you had the L'Homme Ideal EdT, you could test some of the flankers, but in all honesty they are rather powdery and sweet gourmands and if the OG didn't interest you, don't bother.
With L'Instant, you would mostly be looking at the EdP as well, assuming you tested the EdT. It skips most of the citrus and delivers an even spicier patchouli-vanilla blast. This is what Layton would smell like if PdM wasn't just a clone house releasing overpriced frag revivals.
