Hey, guys. I just wanted to ask if there's an easy and effective way to get rid of tiny scratches like this? I waited too long on buying an actual case for my watches and most of the metal bracelets have tiny scratches now. I don't really care that much, but if it's possible, why not.

Apologies if this is commonly answered, but I couldn't find anything online that doesn't seem like it's just shilling a product.

>> No.17438009

Yes and no, you basically have to get some emory boards (sand paper on foam sticks) and gradually sand down the material to the scratch level, then polish and buff to the level of shine that you want. Wristwatch revival did a video on how to do it, including high polish mid-links and how not to fuck that up. Not super difficult, but its time consuming.

/wt/ posts divers regularly, ask them how to use a rotating bezel to estimate oxygen left and they just stop posting. Ask them why the hands and indices are shaped that way and they just think they're pretty. Ask why divers have a large bezel with numbers, they usually scratch their head and say its to help tell time. As if you need to remember its 3:27pm when you're 200 feet under water. The worst part of diver watches is so many manufactrers copy the general look while eliminating the actual utility of the watch. That'd be like making a pistol, but it just doesn't fire bullets. He had no idea what the sub dials did, what the markings on it were, or even what the 2 buttons on the side did. He just saw a $3000 watch and thought it'd be a good status symbol for him. It was giant, gawdy, ugly, and clearly a "I wear a $3000 thing" for him. I suspect thats what many see in Rolex or LV. Watch nerds know Rolexes are fairly durable, hold their value, and has history being a huge non-profit private company. NPCs see a pretty, shiny, expensive thing thinking it'll make them cooler.

It's gonna be my first day as an arms dealer in a few months and I want one in case I get held captive so I can shove it deep up my arse and take it out to check what day / month it is.
I know it's not really possible but a small width 40mmish would be good so that it's not as painful.

>> No.17438163

>>17438124
Yeah, the size trend alone is awful. Why 40mm watches is the smallest you can generally get is irritating. ~35mm was a great size that you could read the time, not have a bulky knock into everything piece of jewelry on your wrist. Normies wanted a thing to put diamonds and other bullshit on, or express their individuality with mass produced crap. MVMT are supposedly alright, but at the heart of it all, its just a quartz watch, $20 movement, and a weird dial/face/case that will not look good in 20 years. Versus the classic designs from the 50s and 60s people still pay $500 for them.

I've read on the internet that it is not advised to wind automatic watches because it wears out the crown mechanism prematurely. Does that apply to manually wound Sellitas like SW210 or their Valjoux clones? There are many brands that use those movements so they must be modified somehow to prevent wear, but I'm not sure

I'd rather have an out of service automatic than a dead quartz watch, what if I brought the casio and the chronograph up my ass, with the chronograph not moving for an extended period of time.
And when the quartz starts running low, start winding and using the chronograph?
I'm not quite sure what would happen to an automatic watch when not moving and inside an asshole for 7 years though.

Sinn has majorly upped their prices, especially in the american market. Stowa is still better priced for same quality.

But the real gem is Damasko. They used to make the cases and various parts for Sinn until Sinn cheaped out and started making models with generic parts. Damasko stuff has super tight tolerances, perfect QC, and similar style. Definitely worth checking out.

I don't like Swiss watches, the cheaper ones fair enough but anyone spending over about a grand on a watch who isn't making absolute megabux is just absurd in my view. When I see guys wearing expensive Swiss watches I instantly think to myself "weird maladjusted cunt", because so often they are, you know that kind of weird overly manicured yet socially awkward arab type guy who drives a big merc but works in a call center or something, all flash no substance. I would honestly feel embarrassed to wear an expensive Swiss watch, it would be like owning a neon underlit black g-wagen with spinning rims. Japanese watches to me are beautiful, a little understated and priced as though they are being sold for people to actually regularly wear while going about a normal life without worrying about damaging it. I also don't like the Swiss generally so maybe that influences it lel.

Still dumb, but at least better than most of their designs that are just rolex replicas.

Should have left crypto off of it tho. No only does crypto not close so it really serves no purpose, but its not even clear that the magic internet money will make a return to prominence ever again. Cheapens the look imo.

I loved the Louis Erard/Silberstein collab but those have been sold out for a minute now. Ironically had a chance to grab one for close to retail but also had a chance to get a GMT Master II for retail at the same time, and like a simp I went for the Rolex. I felt I couldnt justify two expensive watches in the same week so didnt pull the trigger on the Erard, and now I'll probably never get one. Annoying af.

The bell and ross one is okay, but I feel like its a bit of a rip of the louis erard one. The industrial styling of the case clashes with Silberstein's aesthetic, in my mind at least. Still might cop tho.

Wish I had waited a bit longer and picked the DC80 up after release, but thats life. Still love the DC66 tho, but can't justify owning two matte black chronographs from the same brand.

>>17438745

Yes, as >>17438745 said, its a chrono, but its a central minutes/seconds chrono (or at least thats what i think its called?).

Most automatic chronos in this price range just use generic valjoux movements, and as a result all have the same 6-9-12 generic subdial layout (like my DC66). Damasko had to make this movement in-house, and to my knowledge there isn't another chrono like this currently on market.

I feel pretty certain in saying that nobody except watch enthusiasts and gold diggers are impressed with a Rolex, if a woman is impressed by a Rolex you want to get far away from her imo because she's pretty certainly going to be shallow and materialistic. Also people who like watches and specifically Rolex's like them because they find them cool and interesting watches, the watch, not you. It's the kind of thing even fairly young children understand as being classic social ineptitude and asshole behaviour, thinking that you can flash some cash and impress people, as I say if people are impressed by that kind of thing you don't want them in your life because they are soulless.

Not him, but same logic applies. If you take a given name brand and someone "bespokes" it, nobody will ever know why your Rolex looks fake. Same for all those custom shoe makers that took Nikes and customized them for some basketball American. They look like they were just finished by some chinese kid's hands and are somehow priced at 10x a regular pair of shoes.

Its immediate customization of something that already is a luxury item; just like when influencers buy a Ferrari then paint it a retarded color, put a dumb exhaust on it, put some ostentatious interior leather color, and it just looks like a dumb matchbox car. $500k, for the car, $200k for the bespoke finishes, and its now worth $150k. Great job.

True my dude, completely agree.

Lots of dudes complain that they can't look good, or be confident, or get girls because they don't posess X material item; as if just having a rolex would change their life. Spoiler alert: It won't.

In regards to women:

1. Why would you want a woman like that anyways? As you say

And 2. If you dress in normal (I.E. not stupid) clothing, have a clean space to live, are reasonably fit, and have either a job or are in school, you are further ahead than 90% of the dudes out there.

I was gonna say you need a car and to have your own apartment too, but thats only really a must-have after you enter your late 20s. Until then you can get away without. And if you have game, even that probably doesn't matter.

I played football at my university (sucked tho) but I tagged along to a few of the team bar crawls. It was legitimately painful watching simps, decked out in their most expensive shoes and jewelry and buying women drinks, just for some thottie to leave with Jamal and Chad from the football team and follow us to the next bar.

The oyster line was literally made to be waterproof and gaskets last a long time.

I bought a f30 bmw that was CPO for 22k, it has all the features I wanted and was manual. Took it to the track multiple times and owned it for 5 years while paying almost nothing for repairs or maintenance (even had free oil changes). Sold it for 16k.
