/btg/ - NORFAMPTON F.C. Edition (Benchgrade)

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and don't wear them daily for too long

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

Look, let's be realistic here. If you want a Solovair because you want the style of a black combat boot, it will most likely be fine. You'll be wearing it for fashion, not doing any real work in it.

Couple of alternatives: Corcoran jump boots.
https://www.carolinashoe.com/en/original-10-inch-soft-toe-jump-boot-16421.html?dwvar_16421_color=Black&dwvar_16421_size=11&dwvar_16421_width=E

I've worn them, they held up well. Or look for black logger boots from companies like Thorogood, Georgia, etc. The silhouette will be slightly different but you should be able to find something similar.

Seconding this.I don't think most of the people in this thread "work" in their work boots. Hiking and weekend home repair don't count.

I work in a refinery, 12 hour shifts. If you wear any of these boots 12 hours a day multiple days in a row in an environment with hazardous chemicals, they're not going to last either. All GYW really means is you can put a new sole on, it's not a guarantee of quality or survivability.

For my job I've got two pair of boots. One CAT and one Timberland Pro. I rotate so I never wear the same boot two days in a row. I'll get an easy two or three years out of them this way, which is worth it IMHO.

That isn't the concern of working in boots. That is completely expected of a work boot, they are supposed to look like shit if you work in them every day. The question is how long they will last, and a cheapo pair will last 1/10th as long as a quality pair of boots. You basically get what you pay for.

Today was legit the best day I've had in some time. Chippewa 1939 service boot, horween Chromexcel. I know it's not the fanciest boot but I didn't get a chance to grab a pair in my size when they came out, managed to grab a pair on Mercari for $150. They fit perfectly! Never had a vibrant sole before either, always leather or lug. Very comfortable to walk around in too. As of right now the only boots I want are a pair of chunky black boots and a pair of green leather or suede and then I'm done. Feels good.

I want to find a pair of boots similar in style to Paraboot Michael but with a 6 or 8 inch shaft. Does anything like that exist?

Chippewa is still making boots, but they're just regular work boots. I'm ok with that though because I'm going to get their Baldor model, and my desire for a chunky/more casual black boot will be taken care of.

Have a look at what this guy did to uncrease a pair of AE shoes. I can vouch for this, I followed the exact same procedure and got creases out of a pair of shoes that way too.
I can't guarantee it because the leather on your boot may be different but the principle is sound. I'd put good shoe trees in them for a couple days then try this method if the other doesn't work.

>> No.17439551

>>17439533
You can't uncrease. All leather creases. All leather will one day crack in the crease. How long until that day depends on whether or not you care for the leather, including trees and conditioning and a rotation.
However if the crease is so deep and rough that it's hurting your foot that's not going to be fixed by trees. Once the trees are out and your foot back I'd assume the crease would go right back to affecting you.
What are they? Have a pic?
I've had painful, pinching, creases but only on footwear that was too big for my feet.

>>17439551
Iron Rangers, baby's first real boot of sorts. I guess I'm paying the price of being a noob and not taking proper care of them.
For starters, I don't have shoe trees since I don't really mind the creasing. The problem is that I stored them away and something fell on the left boot without me noticing. That something pressed the area around the center of the stitching in the toe cap (red circle) and now when I walk the top crease presses against my foot when I walk. It's not painful but anoying.
Also, I think I got a half a size too big. At the time I was a bit paranoid about shoes being too tight (since I hate when my toes touch the front of the shoe when I walk) and got a 9.5 instead of a 9 which I should have got.
I don't mind the creasing, if I can mange to get the part that got pressed down to its former structure (or just enough so the upper crease stops bothering me) I will be more than content.

Opinions on this suede color?

I'm thinking of ordering this exact suede color and last, but I don't really wear oxfords so I will make it into a PTB

Should I go even darker?

I don't want contrast, so a dark color on dark suede to make them a little more casual? Or just keep them blind ?

You could try Taft or Urban Shepherd or Crown Northampton if a more outlandish/outdoory/casual boot is acceptable.

My intention is to leave the floors looking like Dresden wherever I go, cunt.

Dresden wasn't even that bad. I want your boots to commit uncountable small village massacres that no one remembers but the graves still exist

Dude, when I was in Africa for work I bought a pair of Tarzan boots. They made boots for the apartheid military and they made boots for the Rhodesian military. You’re just convincing me more and more to buy these weird boots I stumbled upon.

Thank you for introducing me to this site since these are exactly what I have been looking for https://williamlennon.co.uk/shop/178-tan-waxy-leather-sole-boot/

My new years resolution is that I will not buy any boots until I see the White's shop and can look at their leathers in person and try the different lasts (I have a 4811 and love it). Naturally I stop at Frank's too.

Has anyone here been up there before? What's there to see in Spokane?

Just got home from work nd he leather on my shoe is...melting? These are Red Wings btw. Owned the shoes for 5 months and never seen anything like this. Happened in the course of maybe an hour, just on my way home. Did I step in fucking acid? Like, actually, what in the fuck.

>> No.17443838

some sort of stripping that's melting the top finish away

>> No.17443840

>>17443838
It's more than the finish. The leather is melted and pitted. It must have been a significantly strong acid. I am starting to think someone tried to hurt me and I got lucky. Didn't notice anything until I got home. At work they were fine.

Hard to tell, but this is a pit in the leather. Formed in ~1 hour from work to home.
