How can I look good while hiking/backpacking without too much sacrifice in comfort/practicality? Most of the time I forget about fashion and look like a retard while I'm /out/, and I'm tired of it. Interested in some hiking fashion guidelines/outfit recs.

Pic only semi related due to not being a manlet.

The basics of outdoor clothing is having a functional layering system for the environment you'll be in. As long as you have that you won't be making any sacrifices in comfort nor practicality. I normally wear a polyester base layer, a fleece jacket and an outer shell. Also you could try with mostly muted colours except for one piece of gear, say your middle layer, and have that be something like bright orange or whatever. I think that creates a cool contrast.

Wear Arcteryx or Patagonia.

I wish more brands made trail runner shoes in regular, solid colors. I can't do the hiking boots thing anymore because trail runners are so much more comfortable for me, too bad they always come in goofy ass color schemes with dumb graphics.

Trail running was one of the worst things to happen to the outdoors, second only to electric bicycles.

1) traditional hiking boots of you have small feet, Palladiums if big. If youre never going to backpack, get some trail runners

2) >>17427879 pretty much this. Neutral, complementary colours that look good worn together. Always layer and avoid cotton anything unless you know what youre doing

I start every fit with merino wool underwear (long underwear if its cold) then thin microfleece pants and top. Then add subsequent outter layers. Wicks sweat and dries fast
