What we see as colors is light being reflected off of a surface.
You see blue when red and green are being absorbed by a surface, but not blue.
Technically black is the absence of color.
That is to say, all colors are being absorbed and not being reflected.
White is an equal balance of all colors being reflected.
Black is when light isn't being reflected, but rather absorbed by a surface.
This is why black objects heat up faster than white objects.
I don't mean to sound petty or pedantic, but this is relevant.

Asking again

I want to get my dad a watch for christmas/his birthday in january, he's pretty into watches and has a fair few. The most recent watch he was quite interested in was the Moonswatch, which I convinced him not to buy since I thought it felt cheap. Is there something similar in the same price range that I could get him, or better?

What's the deal with Kuoe watches? Are they real? Is it some weird fakery? I keep getting adverts for them online but they seem a bit too cheap to be truly “made in Nippon”.

>> No.17410066

List the watches he owns so we can get a better picture of what he might like. Also you generally don't want to buy a watch for somebody, you're very likely to miss and it would be better to just ask them about the watch they would like or alternatively give them money or a coupon so they can choose the watch themselves.

The serious answer is maybe. If the lubricating oils dried up then it's not unlike running a car without oil. It will run, but you'll put excess wear on the mechanism and eventually something will fail.

Modern oils are much more stable and don't dry out as quickly but older ones weren't as stable.

That's a day-night indicator. JLC had a little fun with it by making the ends of the indicator hand be a sun and moon.

It's a hometime watch. The watch has a second hour hand for traveling (picrel). When you're traveling, you can pop the main hour hand forward and back like a GMT watch. The second hour hand will always point at the home/reference time and day-night lets you know if it's AM or PM back home.
When you're back home, the second hour hand is invisibly tucked under the main hour hand.

It's not that, it's about the gays coming up to you. I had a Santos in 2000 and all was well. By 2010 I had guys flirting with me. One guy asked why I'm wearing Cartier if I'm not gay. The gays get some kind of memo on gay brands and somehow Cartier got on the list. Being secure in your masculinity is one thing, being chatted-up by overtly friendly guys is a waste of time, at a minimum. I find the attention annoying, so I don't wear it anymore.
