What is Neofolk?
Neofolk is a clothing style and visual aesthetic inspired by pre-WW2 European outerwear, workwear, and militaria.

What are the origins of Neofolk?
Neofolk takes its name from the Neofolk musical scene, originally from the visual aesthetic of Death in June frontman Douglas P, a homosexual, erstwhile communist turned blackpilled Strasserite. Douglas P’s onstage attire and his overall gesamtkunst style including performing attire and album art draw heavily from WW2 German uniforms, including SS camouflage such as erbsenmuster, tieing these elements to an older völkisch pagan style that implicitly rejects modernity and individualism; the SS smocks are cut in a peasant pattern, and there are frequent völkisch nature motifs such as wicker and flowers; Douglas P’s face is often covered by some sort of mask, often resembling bark, leaves, or moss.

What elements define Neofolk?
Neofolk is defined by wearing clothing in traditional cuts (generally pre-1950s) made from natural materials such as unbleached cotton muslin, roughspun wool, linen, leather, and waxed canvas. The color palette is dominated by dark and muted plain colors: black, dark gray, olive green, brown, and navy blue. The garments emphasize plainness and utility, so militaria and outerwear are the focus, not formal menswear.

What isn‘t Neofolk?
Conversely Neofolk is also very much defined by what it is not; Neofolk never includes modern garment types; modern blue jeans (if you must wear jeans think coal miner not James Dean), athletic wear, hoodies or sneakers; synthetic materials such as polyester or spandex, and eschews modern fasteners such as velcro and visually steers clear of bright garish colors and overt branding, graphics, or logos.

What are similar clothing styles to Neofolk?
While there is substantial overlap with Oxford Academia, its bastardized cousin Dark Academia, and Ivy/Prep, Neofolk does not incorporate tweed or any of the brightly colored elements of Ivy/Prep. Additionally, since the origins of Neofolk style are heavily tied to Douglas P, it is useful to refer to the WW2 German and völkisch style of Neofolk as its first subgenre- Neovolk.

Will Neofolk make me look like a Nazi/larper/autist?
The short answer is yes. The long answer; not necessarily. The reason it is important to single ‘Neovolk’ out from the larger ‘Neofolk’ style is because it is particularly susceptible to making the people wearing it look like larping nazis with autism. Wearing pieces from Wehrmacht/SS uniforms in public is going to make you look like a larping nazi. Any form of Neofolk is going to look autistic to the average normie, and unless executed well will look like a larp.

I don‘t want to look like a nazi, what inspo is there?
Finnish troops in the Winter War, Spanish anarchist militias in the Spanish Civil War, non-German WW2 militaria/uniforms, pre-1950s mountaineering/polar expedition wear, blue sea fisherman/whaler, and factory worker/peasant proletarian style.

I don‘t want to look like a larper, what should I avoid?
All Neovolk stuff like jackboots, hats of any kind, anything that is overtly military to the normie gaze like trenchcoats or uniform blouses.

I don‘t want to look like an autist, what should I avoid?
Tough luck, you‘re going to look like an autist. Embrace your idiosyncrasies and don’t be a little bitch about it.

I don‘t like Neofolk and think people who wear it are turboautist faggots, what should I do?
Keep posting seething comments, it’s a free bump for the thread and you may even be rewarded with a (You).

OP here, I just like early 20th century Euro militaria and workwear. Neofolk to me is just the Euro version of Americana/Heritage workwear.
Also, I’m an anarchist, not a fascist. I have a lot of wool and vintage clothing but I don’t own any real/repro 3rd Reich stuff.
