Used to ride to work on a Honda Zoomer.
It was lovely, it's appearance alone brings smiles to many peoples faces.
But eventually it started having problems, especially in rain, it would stall at the traffic lights in the middle of the rain, it sucked.

But overal, I enjoyed riding it, and it was incredibly cheap to ride, of all the scooters it was the most comfortable with the wide steering wheel and big tires.

The engine itself was a lovely thing, liquid cooled, 4 valves, fuel injection, the starter that doubles as the alternator was a lovely touch. But it did start having problems, but then again it did have about 50k kilometer on it when I was done with it, especially starting was a chore if it was too wet or too cold.

But still, I was fond of it, besides all the problems it had at the end, I did ride 30k kilometers with it.

It's a very valid fear to have. I'd go as far as to say that if you live in a city, just forget about it. Too many fools on the road.

But if you live in suburbia or in a more rural area, go for it.

I'm not sure moto is even motorcycles really. I think if you're leaning into motorcycle culture, you're missing the aesthetic, if you're leaning into guns, you're missing the aesthetic. The goofy little Japanese lorries fit the aesthetic better than an old cafe racer. This recent little set of moto collages is more about embracing practicality and personal taste to the abandonment of social expectations. There's a slightly autistic edge to it, it's intentionally weird. The gun is included like a fedora wearing neckbeard carrying a katana. Its also the abandonment of explicitly luxury aesthetic. A cohesive leather outfit and a new triumph screams money and luxury. You should be able to find motocore/motofunk in the ass end of Kazakhstan. It rides the line between basement NEET on his mom's scooter and 3rd world nomad hauling a deer carcass through the mountains to his home.

What kind of riding? You have three categories
Light weight
>Basically all dual sports
>300cc or lower
>Can go anywhere and everywhere
>Will not be as good for cruising on the highway
>Cannot carry as much luggage
>WR250R, CRF300L, DRZ400, KLX300
Mid weight
>Bigger engines that are good on highways and off road
>Heavier, can still go everywhere but you will struggle more on tighter stuff
>More luggage capacity
>Better for every day riding
>Tenere 700, new TransAlp when it comes out, KTM 790/890, KLR/DR 650
Big ADVs
>Generally the most comfortable bikes on the market
>Huge fuel range for eating up miles
>Can do off-road but size and weight become a limiting factor
>Generally very good on sealed roads and very fast due to large engines
>Boomer bikes
>BMW GS range, Honda Africa Twin, Ducati Desert X, 1290 adventure, Triumph Tiger

Usually people will buy light weight for doing multiday single track camping trips deep in the bush.
Midweight is for people that want to ride every day but still be able to go on adventures.
Big are for people who want to do cross country/multi country expeditions and larpers.

Ebikes will eventually not be shit for range, but not at the moment because battery tech isn't even close. I find it amusing that non-motorcyclists imagine they know what motorcyclists should want. Real electric motorcycle owners are well aware of their limfacs and don't pretend those are somehow irrelevant.

>> No.17416289

Oh, my original point was more related to emergency offroad issues.
If I'm lost and/or stuck, I'd rather have the simplicity(ish) of a carb than an EFI. And I also like the manual feedback of adjusting the choke as needed but that's not an objective advantage, that's a subjective choice.
In all other aspects I would actually go for an EFI, it IS a wonder of automotive tech, my dream bike is actually the indian scout and I WILL own that bike sometime in the future, with its EFI, ABS and all other wonderful technologies.
But I don't own a Gen1 KLR650 (no ABS, no EFI, not even a digital dash) because I'm full of money, quite the contrary.

But on the weird side:
>saves fuel
You're looking to save fuel on a bike? I'm a cheap bastard and even I don't think about saving fuel on a bike.
>makes tuning easier
True, you don't have to learn how to adjust the choke perfectly to achieve the same stoichiometry as an EFI chip, but sensors can go haywire too, don't they? I don't own an EFI bike so you may be able to teach me a thing or two.

>> No.17416298
