Should I just get a cheap sub $100 setup or spend a bit more? Can people easily tell when a suit is cheap? Grew up poorfag and still mostly am, but I can afford splurge here and there. Figure this might be one of those times?
Is mens wearhouse a good place to shop or a ripoff? Figure I should try before I buy to get a good fit. Pic related is like $450, I like the look of it.

>> No.17381528

Yes it's easy to tell
Mens wearhouse is like for security guards and stuff. You could do worse. You could do better. Keep in mind alterations cost money especially if you go to a tailor who doesn't suck (in my experience store tailors are hit or miss)
$450 is probably the minimum you can spend on a suit without having it look visibly like "wow that's a cheap H&M suit" from a mile away. People will still be able to tell it's not a "nice" suit but if you're from a poor family and they're not used to seeing nice suits, they're not going to be able to tell, it will just look like "a suit"

Buy a cheap suit if you're just a guest. Buy 3 off Amazon and keep the one that looks/fits the best.

What's your physique like. If you're pretty slim or slightly lean built asos design has some dirt cheap well fitting suits off the rack. Stick to their wool blend for a more premium looking fabric. I recently picked up a grey wool blend suit jacket for $36, vest for $12, and suit pants for $13.

People will be able to tell from the material, yes. Cheap suits are polyester and they look cheap and bad. You will look like a disgusting incel in a polyester suit. It’s blaringly obvious to anyone with eyeballs. Good suits made of a thin wool look nice and good. Spend a lot of time shopping around and try to finds a sale. Thrift store shopping could be better than wearing a polyester suit, assuming you live in an okay area. You should be able to thrift a suit that is in like new condition. If you have normal proportions you shouldn’t have to do any alterations other than maybe getting the pants hemmed. Spend a lot of time trying the suits on and looking in the mirror. Ask yourself ‘do I look like a retard, or does this suit fit properly’.

Not bad advice, get a cheap dark blue blazer in "stretch" or "comfort" fabric (a lot of shitty fast fashion stores sell them), get it altered which will probably cost 2-3x the cost of the blazer (but still cheaper than a suit), pair it with chinos and dark brown bluchers or even dark conservative sneakers. These are things you can rewear later outside of a wedding, it's still respectful, and you don't end up spending $700 (including alterations) to look like the greeter guy at the airport rental car kiosk

I have one that I think I paid like $50 for (plus about $300 in alterations to have it remade, it was well worth it). it's not the exact jacket in the pic but it's not far off either. I bought it as sort of a joke and realized it had potential so I took it to my guy

other jackets in my closet are from boglioli, corneliani, and isaia, and I guarantee nobody who isn't pretty deep into menswear can tell that my fast fashion jacket isn't a cheap piece of shit. I wear it as a casual piece (like my k-jacket)

as long as your whole wardrobe isn't cheap shit, you'd be surprised what you can get away with

>> No.17382018

I am not gonna shit on your choices but why spend 300 dollars on alterations for that? For $350 you could just buy a mid-range RTW jacket and only spend like $20 more on altering the sleeves.

99% of people can't tell the difference between a cheap suit or an expensive one, since they usually are the same suit made in the same shitty factory. Just do a emperors new cloths and tell people it's a $2000 dollar suit and watch has their eyes light up and be amazed at your fancy $20 dollar suit.
I know this works because I did it before.

>> No.17382021

>> No.17382024

because it's better than throwing it in the garabge? because I wanted to see what my tailor could do? because why not? considering I'm just as satisfied to wear it as some jackets that would MSRP for $4000 (not that I could ever afford MSRP), I'd call that a win

btw there is no real difference between a $350 "mid range" (lol) RTW jacket and a $50 POS except maybe the lining, if you mean $350 MSRP

also lol @ $20 altering the sleeves. maybe you just have amazing luck but I've never gotten away with just $20 worth of alterations on anything save perhaps some shirts. sleeves on a "mid range" shitter are going to cost more than my fast fashion POS because it probably has surgeon cuffs because of #menswear memesters, so now you have to pay your guy to detach it at the shoulder and do it the hard way, have fun with that

asking here because my question is slightly related. What fabric is typically used in a wingtip collar shirt? The Marcella fabric for white tie shirt fronts is textures, so I thought that something similar, maybe pinpoint or Oxford would make sense, or is plain old poplin the best? I'll probably never attend a white tie event, so black tie would be sufficient

Every man should own one good suit. People at the wedding won't give a fuck but use it as an excuse to get yourself something nice and versatile that can be worn in a professional setting as well as at a celebration. Picrel is good - I have a similar one to that with a subtle chequered pattern which I get specific compliments about, it helps you stand out when most guys just wear solids. Make sure you get the right fit - get someone who works there to help you find the one that works for your body type best. Have you got your shoes sorted out?
