You're right, they Schlitz'd it. The last time I bought a pair, the use of full-grain leather was an advertised feature, but I just checked and the standard Samba is now made with 'synthetic leather,' although some of the special editions are still made with the real thing.

Sambas are damn near indestructible. I threw away a pair because the heel lining was worn through and I wore a hole in the insoles, but the outsole was still near perfect and they looked near new outside as well. I could've just gotten a new set of insoles and been fine. That was after 8 years of ownership and probably wore them 3 days a week on average, for a year or two they were my daily shoes though

Bought another 3 pairs of sambas, they're all in fantastic shape.
