The one strap that I bought that was rubber wasn't as good as the original so I ended up getting this nato thing and replacing it since it wears more comfortably. Would a black strap look better? I bought two. The pins that came with the nato were shit so I cut paper clips to make pings myself, it was a nice experience.

What's the lowdown on Fliegers?
Anyone done the research?
There's so many brands that offer them now.
>IWC
>Stowa
>Laco
>Dekla
>Archimede
>Aristo
>Sinn
>San Martin and other nameless chinkbrands

Stowa is laughable because of reasons from a few years ago, Laco is the usual resurrected name that may not even use german made cases (ie. chink case, jap movement), IWC doesn't seem worth the price for such a basic ubiquitous design.
Sinn has one flieger model, and it's a modern spin that doesn't look so good desu senpai, especially with the mix of old radium and white lume.
That leaves Aristo, which nobody ever talks about, Archimede which is Ickler's house brand so at least the cases are good, and Dekla which from what I remember was the rising darling of the flieger world. I have no idea how they are though.
I think there's another german brand, new, that was autistic enough to want to produce EVERYTHING in germany. I think the name began with a "T". I doubt the feasibility of that however.
Anyone have any input on Dekla etc.,?\

Also,

I’m in the same camp as you. I’ve never sold a watch and can’t see myself doing so, and I’ve been collecting watches for well over a decade at this point. I honestly think it depends on how carefully you choose what to buy. I’ve never impulsively bought a watch and I’ve never bought one without trying it on and then waiting a few months to see if I really want it. Many people get caught in hype and then sweet talked by an AD who they mistakenly think is their friend and end up with a watch that doesn’t meet their expectations for one reason or another.

It’s complicated. The good:
>very good cases, extremely comfortable and durable
>very good dials with choices between the classic sandwich, sausage for some of the best lumed watches in the industry, or applied indices
>iconic styling, a Luminor or Radiomir is still very well known culturally
>their movements have gotten very good, reliable, easily serviced
>cool materials technology: they make the best bronze watches in the industry and their ceramic and carbon fiber cases are winners
The bad:
>their CEO is a fucking retard
>the Due is a joke of a watch
>cost cutting on entry level watches mean you need to spend too much to get a watch with true Panerai DNA
>they don’t make enough Radiomir variants
>no one gives a fuck about e-steel and the text on the dial looks like shit, but they’re doubling down on it
>too many limited editions and collaborations with people no one cares about
>complicated watches balloon up to 47mm or bigger. You can fit complications in a 44mm watch you lazy cunts

That is not an ETA movement. Even though I find the downgrade utterly reprehensible, you're playing semantics games regarding whether or not it is actually in house. I don't want to get into another discussion about ValFleurier and La Joux-Perret and the shell games that go on but most (virtually all) watchmakers are not fully integrated and if you're going to argue that Panerai doesn't make their own movements, then you'd better be ready to make that same claim regarding at least 90% of all watch brands.

I don't understand how watch brands are allowed to get away with this. If a different company makes the movement for your watch, sends it to you, then you just assemble and decorate it, why can you legally call it an in-house movement? Because the brand that made it is owned by the same conglomerate?

Did you know that Tudor founded a company called Kenissi with Chanel and Breitling to make their movements for them?

So, the other day I went out with the girl I'm dating and she wanted to buy something from the stores, but she promised it wouldn't be more than half an hour. So, an hour and twenty minutes later, I got up and went walking around, only to find a freshly open new IWC Boutique.
I started looking and came across this cute, sexy green lady and immediately hang onto it.
I always wanted a green watch and, although the price wasn't exactly what one would expect from an impulse buy, I'm really happy with it.
Funny thing, no IWC strap were working with that dial as I wanted, so I went to the Omega Boutique and got this excellent matching nato.

Outed themselves as using cheap chinese cases used by fakers and homage watch brands despite charging more than say Archimedes etc., who use actually German made Ickler cases.
Someone on WUS bought a tisell or some other homos bauhaus homage trash and it came with a stowa caseback. Long story short, no it was not a fake stowa part. Stowa owner was mod of the stowa board on WUS and when confronted by photos of this and asked directly "are your cases made in germany or china by this homage OEM maker" he went silent and never answered any more questions again and slinked away like a pussy. For YEARS people have been buying stowa with the assumption that the cases were made by a German company.
If the case isn't german, what about the dial, the hands etc., etc.?

Basically nobody trusts stowa anymore, at least not at the prices they ask for.

>made in Germany
>Japan Movement
>Swiss Made
These are useless terms. The law of Switzerland allows any watch with at most 40% imported parts allowed to be classified as Swiss Made. And even then, some companies will say their Research and Development counts as the 60% needed, so a Swiss Made watch might have more than 40% imported parts. It’s probably similar for Germany. Japan Movement just means the movement was made in Japan, but cased in China

>Made in America
This is unironically the most difficult to find, because American law is so autistic about what can be called Made in America. It has to have 95% of its components made in America. That’s why most American brands simply say “product of America”, “designed in America”, etc.

What do you you think Scott had on him when he went to the antarctic but an even more fragile, barely water resistant pocket watch? Amundsen was the same.
Mechanical watches aren't as fragile as you'd think. World wars were fought by guys wearing what you'd consider a ladies dress watch today that wasn't water proof nor had a shock resistant balance, something we take for granted today.

Situation dependent. If I'm at a party or on a date or something like that, I'll use a proper wristwatch but when I'm at work or exercising I'll wear either a Garmin or an Apple Watch (the Garmin for shit like hiking in jungles or hiking in winter).

So I never judge anyone wearing one and being at work, I can fully understand not wanting to whip your phone out for every single notification. But for people out on dates or at social things, I do judge. Smart watches to me are a bit like work shoes I suppose.
