Decided to pop the bezel off of my MTD 1043 to see if I could make it rotate. I can't because it's ever so slightly bent but I'm liking the look of it without the bezel, ordered the marlon bando from CNS, gonna go for the discount apocalypse now rolex look now.

On a side note, I found out how the ratcheting mechanism works and it's all down to this spring piece which sandwiches between the bezel and the case, which makes me wonder, what the fuck stopped vostok from doing this to their watches so the bezel wasn't just held in place by friction.

Love the iconic design and it would go great with the suits I sometimes wear for work. Otherwise, it seems a bit too formal for everyday use with more casual clothing, I don't think I could pull it off.

>Ronde
The dial is extremely striking to me for some reason. Seems versatile enough to go with a suit as well as more casual clothing (especially on the bracelet).

Rolex is like Leica, Mercedes or Edward Green. They're the best in their category while also being able to produce a lot (around 1M watches per year).

Sure, but that's not the only reason.
10 years ago when pretty much every Rolex were available at ADs, there were already people who despised the brand for no valid reasons (ie watch-related reasons). These very same people also claimed they prefer Omega or Breitling, who make products of lesser quality (not bad products, just not on par with Rolex).
Many people hate Rolex because of their own perception of the brand (blingy, overpriced, worn by the wrong people, whatever). For example when someone says Rolex are overpriced compared to Omega, they (willingly or not) ignore that Rolex has its own foundry and far better quality control than any of its competitors. They got tricked by Omega's marketing into thinking Rolex and Omega play in same category.

Do you pay for the brand's name? Sure. But you also pay for the best industrial-made watch on the market.

I love the watches, hate everything surrounding them from the status obsessed customers to the conniving ADs to the pretentious advertising. Rolex watches are excellent for what they are but people, including people in this thread, have gotten it in their mind that Rolex is God’s gift to man for some reason. Coupled with the shameful displays from ADs and a speculator and flipper driven market it has left a sour taste in the mouth of anyone who has any degree of sense. Like the other guy said, a GMT is a fantastic watch for $10k. It’s fucking laughably bad for $30k.

Basically all main-line Rolexes are boring. (Obviously the Rainbow Daytona is an outlier, but Rolex also only makes about 10 of those per year.) That's part of the appeal. No crazy designs or colors, no crazy case shapes.

You don't buy a Rolex because it's interesting.
