Maybe try on some wigs to see what styles look good and then grow your hair out to shoulder length and curl it loosely and then brush it out and maybe a bit of salt spray for hold

Japan is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, Japanese one of the most beautiful languages in the world, Japanese models some of the most beautiful people in the world, Japanese art some of the most beautiful in the world.

But they were never or are no longer popular amongst the average person. Their appeal has always been niche, even with anime and their video games. China has had a greater influence upon American culture for the past 50 years than Japan has. And now they are even losing niche appeal globally to South Korea as their cultural influence stagnates. They are being relegated to pure escapist appeal now.

The average person, even otaku, is unfamiliar with Japanese history and the sociopolitical aspects of Modern Japanese life, because Japan does not advertise these. The information is out there in bits and pieces, primarily on YouTube and also scattered blogposts, but you have to dig to form a coherent picture. If more people were aware of the underside and nuances of Japanese society, I think they'd inspire a lot more complex and engaged opinion.

How is a leather jacket supposed to fit? I have long, slim arms but broad shoulders, so jackets that fit my arm length are way too roomy and baggy on the arms and body. Jackets that fit my body are too short in the arms.

I have 2 jackets at the moment that are probably the best matches I'm going to get
>A padded arm/shoulder one with good arm length that fits my body, apart from my broad shoulders. They enter into the arm area and cause very slight shoulder bumps similar to pic related in any position where my arms aren't relaxed.
>A plain jacket that fits the body, but sleeves move up my wrist in any position where my arms aren't relaxed. I'm not going to be walking round with my arms up, where it's almost 3 inches up my forearm, so it may be a non-issue.

Is a jacket with small shoulder bumps actually noticeable in motion? Or is a jacket with sleeves that move up the arm an inch or two bad, again, in motion? I've ordered and returned 8 different jackets (have a gift card with the online store so I'm stuck with them) and I'd like to be done with all this.

with chinos i'd go with brown, if you need smarter go with darker brown, only cheap service jobs require black shoes nowadays. wearing black shoes is a stylistic choice for someone far more advanced than you.

go with dark brown open lacing derby shoes for comfort and get rubber/dainite sole for walking.

From experience, if you go to a barber and tell them you just want the ends cut off 9 times out of 10 they're gonna cut it way way shorter than you wanted. It took two years to get it as long as it is but it can be cut off in seconds. If you want to get it shaped I recommend a woman's salon. They know better how to deal with long hair and how to shape it while keeping length loss minimal. Also:

>Big titty hair stylist shoving her cleavage in your face while she cuts
>Shampoo and condition right there
>Pleasant smells and pretty girls

With barber shops it seems like you either get grandpa haircuts by old boomers OR you get guys who look like pic related that's going to try to talk to you about sneakers or whatever jungle music is popular right now

Maybe if you live in a good part of a major city you have better options but for most people that's what you get. You're only going to need to get your hair shaped up once a year maximum so you're going to basically be going in blind every time. Without an established relationship with a barber, a woman's salon is the only safe option because it's the only way you can be sure they know what to do with long hair.

Do you guys know anything about textiles? I just ruined an old (thankfully not particularly beloved) sweater by putting it on an oil heater and I'm just curious what the heck happened, because none of my other clothes have ever been damaged this way.
The tag saying what fabric it is has completely faded and I bought it cheap secondhand, so it could be made of just about anything.

It's originally grey, and after about half an hour on the heater it's discoloured to yellow and become threadbare in proportion to how much heat it was exposed to (so the parts that were directly touching the heater fins are the most thinned and discoloured).
Google's failing me, so maybe this'll ring a bell for someone here.

It depends on what you like. I think it’s best to start by buying decent pants, shoes and shirts. You can pull off a preppy look with just that and some sweaters. Then you can buy some sports coats and use the pants you bought as odd trousers.

Light tan shoes are perhaps one of the least versatile color.

Not necessarily always the case, but it looks better when the shoes are darker than the trousers. So when you pick light colored shoes like this, you are stuck with light colored trousers, like beige, off white, eggshell, cream.

I'm new to /fa/, and looking to reform myself from "mom buys my clothes" virgin-tier.
I can go by the guides well enough for the most part, but I'm very /fit/ these days. I'm ~5'6 and about 180lbs. I'm pretty short but also pretty jacked. I can fit into Medium sized shirts for the most part, but it makes my arms and chest look huge.
I'm curious to know if I should go with relatively tight-fit shirts or trade that for wearing a large, showing off less of my muscles, but looking more like I'm not some douchebag always wearing tight clothes because my mom shops for me or some shit.
My next question is about shorts. Are athletic shorts okay? I'd just pair them with a solid tee and some canvas sneakers, maybe a zip up hoodie. Also, how fit do my legs need to be if I'm wearing the seemingly in-style 70s shorts, where I show off a good bit of my thighs. My legs aren't super jacked or anything, but my thighs aren't fatty these days and definitely not slim with no muscles.
Finally, any general advice for short but muscular/stocky guys is very welcome.

Not all medium or large sizes are the same. Cuts vary by and within companies, brands and products. They’re mass-produced products. Search around for shirts with the most consistent fit for you and/or get your shirts tailored. When it comes to shorts, it depends on what type of look you’re trying to go for. If you’re trying to look like 80s Arny, go for it. Remember you can always get shorts tailored to get the fit you want, within the limits of what your tailor can do.

Yeah, that's not really the problem I'm talking about. There are things about clothing that can be altered and some things that can't. Even if you try on clothing and it fits well in certain respects, you may find it doesn't fit well in other areas, especially if you have a build that isn't common, which seems to be the case for the anon I responded to. For example, plenty of stores will sell pants in different waist sizes but only one inseam length, because they expect that you will get them hemmed, as this is a very straightforward alteration.
