Load the bobbin. Thread the needle. Now, get out that sick new shirt that doesn't fit quite right. Turn it inside out. Draw lines with chalk. Under the presser foot, light on the pedal. Let the needle do the work.

Snip the thread tails.

From sick to sexy. Good JOB ANON!!!

Sewing Suggestions for beginers:
learn to alter thrift finds instead of from scratch if you're low on time.
The main skills you need to master is just how to hem both by hand and machine; the reason for both is you will find each project demands one or the other and sometimes being able to do either means you can choose to use the best method for that particular project instead of the only method you know / the "okay" way to go about it. Hemming includes pant legs, skirts hems, shirt cuffs.
Another quick skill to pick up, but you'll use a ton for alterations is pintucking/tucks. It's basically folding up fabric from somewhere in the middle of a piece to change the length. Try buying things that are way too long, or way too big and pintuck/tuck or pleat them down to fit. All that controlled volume makes things look more expensive.
(note: pintucks/tucks are horizontal folds in fabric, pleats are vertical folds in fabric)

I'd love to start from nothing all the time, but it is easier to to make one or two very precise adjustments and then be done. There's also always switching out the buttons, but you will find that can look a bit cringe if you pick the wrong replacements.
