What do you think about the GMT master ii 16713? Last two-tone gmt before the horrible maxicases came in.
I remember seeing one of these in a shop window once, must've been 6 or 7 years old at the time, and was enamored by the contrast of the black and the gold.
Any caveats anyone knows about in picking one of these up?
I recall reading once that two-tone subs and gmts are not recommended 2nd hand as the gold parts means bracelets stretch horribly if you buy one that's been well used. But besides that I don't know of any technical problems.
Stylistically?
They seem to be almost always cheaper than plain SS gmt masters of the same range.

I'd expect that if the mania dies down most vintage prices will return to more normal levels. I think most customers and dealers know that a used 16713 is not worth $15k.

I think they're some of the most beautiful and interesting watches on the market, but I'm not sure I have ever seen one that looks good on a wrist. Their technical expertise is indisputable but I'm less sold on their styling. Yeah I was going to go with quartz since it'd just be an occasional watch or something. The current Swatch I have is unwearable since it's almost 30 years old, never worn and was stored in a collection its entire life since it was apparently too rare to wear and I really doubt there are replica straps for it if the originals break from attempting to wear it.

I was very tempted to buy pic related on the grey a few weeks ago. They usually sell for around 8k. I still think it's a beautiful watch with nice proportions but yeah, it's basically a Nautilus/RoyalOak cope.
Thank God my AD called me for an Explorer just in time.

IMO the large majority of watches with integrated bracelet will look stupid and dated in a few years. Only the Nautilus and Royal Oak will remain relevant, as they are already iconic watches. Maybe the ALS Odysseus and Moser Streamliner will remain, as they look really different.

I early adopted smart-ish watches back when they were overgrown fitness trackers, before the modern ones hit the market. Eventually moved to a first gen Galaxy Watch Active. Nice for what it was, but 'what it was' didn't end up being much use to me. Went full circle back to actual watches. Though amusingly my current daily, an Oceanus, syncs time with my phone. I've gone from a dumb device pretending to be smart all the way to a smart device pretending to be dumb.

Yeah they're pretty good for that. Also stuff like falls and accidents, it'll call emergency services if it senses you've taken a very hard fall and don't cancel the call attempt within 2 minutes.

It's also been good keeping track of my sleep and my heart rate. It got me spooked enough to see my doctor once since I went past 220bpm during an intense workout.

I don't think so, no. I'd look into something like a Samsung or Garmin watch in that case. I have a Garmin myself for when I go hiking deep in the forest and it brushes off anything I do to it, so one of those might be perfect if you're mom will probably be knocking it against stuff.

You can of course wear whatever you want on your wrist, nobody's going to stop you. Odds are that guy is trying to make a sale, and since people these days want versatility from their watch, he'll feed you whatever you want to hear. I'm sure if you ask he will agree that a diver looks great with a tux.

But to my point, a diver will still look incredibly out of place, as a bulky, sporty, tool watch with a suit. It's a horribly overstated accessory, and most of the time it will crease your cuffs (unless you have your shirts tailored to accommodate a diver, which, again, will look dumb as it requires a lot of space).
