The Santos name is old, but for most of its existence it was the Santos-Dumont. It became the Santos in steel with the bracelet in the late 70s to capitalize on the Royal Oak/Nautilus trend.

In that respect, it's a tremendous cope. Moving to a blue dial only makes it worse.

Your experience with the RO is definitely not unique. It's a watch that looks great in photos but is actually quite uncomfortable for a lot of wearers, in addition to the fact that it wears much larger than its specs suggest. It's a hype piece. It was, for its time, a legitimate earthquake in the watch world, but the design also shows its age badly.

Comparing it to the Oyster is not fair, though, lol. That's just about the most comfortable bracelet out there after the Jubilee.

>> No.17098036

>>17098022
The real question is whether Rolex even cares to put a stop to it. I think the answer is no, given that the issue has continued for like 5 years at this point. They insist on continuing to produce the watches that aren't in demand in the same numbers and refuse to significantly boost the production of in-demand watches. ADs and Rolex benefit because suckers will buy the watches no one wants to hopefully get a watch they do want.

Given their absurd financials, it's a choice at this point to not make the watches people want. That's why you are a fucking cuck if you play the AD game.

>> No.17098038

>Given their absurd financials, it's a choice at this point to not make the watches people want.
It's not that simple.
1. to expand production, they need to build a new facility. That takes a lot of time. Real Estate in Geneva isn't exactly cheap.
2. to make more Daytonas and GMTs, they need to shift production away from DJs, which actually are, by far and away, their most popular model. (The legions of middle managers who buy Rolexes aren't on watch forums.)

my predictions for the future of Rolex:
they will bump the production numbers up slightly
they will make the hands in-house or acquire the guys that make them atm (Feidler iirc)
they will raise prices significantly over the next few years to get a larger piece of the pie instead of letting grey market dealers get it all.
they'll try to move further upmarket by offering more and more models in precious metals (see for example the current Explorer). Just like Patek Philippe is trying not to be the Steel Nautilus company.
Thanks for reading my blog.

Seeing as Rolex agrees with me and is doing what I suggested, I don't see the need to fly down and visit with them just yet. If they continue to fail to meet production standards, then I will fly down and have a chat.

They'll take one look at the Casio on your wrist and immediately have to open a dozen reqs to replace the workers who died laughing.

How is it redundant? The 9F is super accurate but doesn't sweep, the spring drive sweeps but is just a decent quartz

>> No.17098365

>>17098338
It's not redundant, it's contradictory. 9F is quartz, 9R is spring drive. Spring drive is a third way between quartz and mechanical. It's a completely different mechanism than any other quartz mechanism.

I swear the swiss industry has successfully convinced people that 'quartz' is a zombie bite that irreversibly devalues anything it touches.
