someone really should come up with a unified tip and sprez pasta for these

/sprez/ pasta:

This thread is for the well dressed man and those seeking to improve their dress by exploring colors, patterns, textures and other styles while appearing more mature, elegant and refined.

>Do I have to be European to wear this style?
Yes absolutely. Some east asian men can also wear this style. Blacks, indians, mutts or any other race definitely can't however. If you are american (even if you're white), please stay away from this style, you'll ruin it.
>How is this different than Trad/Ivy/Prep?
Trad/Ivy/Prep = american cringe shit
Sprezzatura = mediterranean refinement
>Where should I start?
idk buy yourself a nice unstructured sports jacket, grey or cream high waisted trousers and a pair of fine suede shoes.
>Where can I find good inspo to draw from?
just use Google and Instagram for fuck's sake
>Where can I buy these clothes?
same as above, do your own research

i recently thrifted a CT shirt for £1 just to try it. its a slim fit short sleeve button collared shirt made from lightweight twill which is surprisingly airy. my only gripe is that the chest fit is a hair too narrow for my preference, and i keep running into chest sizes being too narrow for the collar size on myself. should i just make a point of buying classic fits and getting them darted if i want a roomy chest but a narrower waist?

Do you guys have any recs for what shoes to wear with them to accomplish a breezy, somewhat sprezz style?
Something brown ideally, a thin leather maybe.
I just want to be able to wear shorts with my linen shirts, right now my best option are a pair of white Chucks and they work okay, just dressing a bit too far down. White tennis shoes like picrel might be ok but I'm in the market for a brown pair of shoes anyway.

Polo belts:

I wanted to make a thread about this but my IP address is range banned. Anyways the Argentinian style polo belts became part of the prep look. Also known as gaucho belt. Polo is part of this look. I have been eying a belt for years. It’s been maybe six or seven since it became a thing and maybe five since prince William made it popular.
I looked into it and I found little evidence these belts are made in Argentina. All the distributors have the exact same looks despite all saying they were hand made by their manufacturers in Argentina. Some sites even look like rip off drop ship companies with slick fake stock photos and design. All the companies are US based.
I looked up on Ali baba some belts and found some for like $1 per belt from India that look a lot like what gets sold for $200.
Just wanted to say I have not found any evidence of where these are made in Argentina if they are at all and I can’t even find evidence these ever were a thing in Argentina. I’m happy to be proven wrong since I think it’s cool.

27% of the incoming freshman class at Harvard identify as LGBTQ+ and most of the ‘white’ students are Jewish so you’d probably be better off wearing antifa clothes with blue hair if you want to fit in there. Doesn’t sound to exclusive to me. They are more like the loser kids I used to beat up and rob when I was in middle school. If this is the next generation of the American elite then we are definitely losing #1 world power status to China so that’s why I’m currently taking mandarin lessons. I actually got into Harvard partly because I’m black but opted to go to MIT instead. The networking opportunities afforded by Harvard attendance are a shadow of what they once were so I’m going for quality of education only.

'The Romans never allowed a trouble spot to remain simply to avoid going to war over it, because they knew that wars don't just go away, they are only postponed to someone else's advantage. Therefore, they made war with Philip and Antiochus in Greece, in order not to have to fight them in Italy... They never went by that saying which you constantly hear from the wiseacres of our day, that time heals all things. They trusted rather their own character and prudence — knowing perfectly well that time contains the seeds of all things, good as well as bad'.
- 'De Principatibus (1532)'

Or what, are you calling me a glownigger or something?
You know, you Americans would call your own Founding Fathers glowniggers, if they were alive today.
Imagine what they said back then but today: 'hey guys, let's arm ourselves, form an illegal militia, kill government soldiers and destroy the goverment itself'. You Americans would 100% call the Founding Fathers glowniggers.

I like to toe the line between American and Italian styles.

It’s a fine line and the details really matter.

You can wear loafers, but the toe can’t be too pointed and you need to pick a more traditional color. No rope espadrilles. You can’t wear too much white or too many wheat colors. No hats. Only one European-looking piece at a time.

It’s fun to tie the line. My go-to American shops to get American-European hybrid styles are Velasca for shoes, Suitsupply for trousers/shorts and polos, Club Monaco for linen shirts.

not quite. irish sweaters are known for using a heavier gauge of wool than others, but in basically every coastal town and village across the colder parts of europe there would have been some kind of knitting tradition. the scottish and irish are just the most well known, the scottish for their high quality heritage wool and superb manufacturing, and the irish for their more detailed styles with heavier woollen yarns. note that a traditional fishermans sweater is made with grease in wool. this natural yarn with none of its oil removed protects the wool and keeps you dryer in wetter environments. you will struggle to get a grease in wool sweater however unless you pay someone to make one for you, as i have done.

>> No.17100660

>>17100628
i feel like they're probably most famously known as Irish fisherman sweaters or Aran sweaters (from the name of the islands that they allegedly originate from) but i don't think they have a complete claim to them. Cream/white is the more famous/classic colour

>other deep sweater traditions
sure, there's Fairisle sweaters/jumpers which are Scottish in nature
speaking of Scotland, there's also Shetland sweaters which are my personal favourite
traditional Norwegian sweaters ("Setesdalsgenser"?) as you mentioned, but there's also a cult classic reinterpretation/appropriation of them from LL Bean simply called the Norwegian Sweater that was an Ivy staple but doesn't feature the snowflake patterns the original Norwegian template is known for
tennis/cricket sweaters are also a thing but can look a bit larpy
argyle sweaters (including sweater vests, cardigans etc with the pattern) can be cool too but quite dependent on the colours used, the size of the diamond pattern, etc. the wrong combination can look very tryhard and/or 00s terribad

as for wearing it, i genuinely dont know. im getting a ~1kg shawl collar sweater made, and i hope to be able to wear it with a heavier winter tie and other basic winter staples.

Just thrifted up picrel. Its 'Dillard's by Racquet Club', 100% wool, and fits like a dream. My question is can I wear it as is or do I have to change the buttons? My style is basically

I've never been into them, but I normally like henley style t shirts and long sleeve t shirts. This linen shirt with grandad collar seems like it would look kinda similar to a henley shirt and fit into this style for something a little nicer than a t shirt.

It's a type of cable knit sweater.
Cable knit refers to the extra dense layers of (often cable shaped) knitting that were common on fisherman's sweaters to provide extra warmth on the cold seas. Fisherman's sweaters were generally made of unwashed wool that still has the natural lanolin, which makes it water resistant.

Ireland has the Aran sweater but pretty much any seafaring nation has an equivalent. Danish, Norwegian, Guernsey, and Breton knits are all similar and well-known.

Iceland has a very rich knitwear heritage based around the endemic Icelandic sheep. The wool from Icelandic sheep is warmer, lighter, and more water resistant than most other wool. It's woven into a yarn called lopi, which is still minimally processed and, as such, is distinctively coarse. It doesn't bother me but some people find it too scratchy.

The two-tone parts look weirdly bulky, and so do the armholes despite not having a different fabric. I don't know what these buttons are, but I have them. Four pockets? Plus they're really ugly patch pockets. And they aren't even placed well. The way it's cut looks weird, too. I don't know a lot about the tailoring side of things, but usually the armholes aren't cut like that and there's enough space for a pocket further up. You say wool but it looks like cheap polyester.

Hello,

I got accepted in a somewhat reputable school in my country, and I’m looking to purchase my first suit or sport coat.

I’ve been looking over at Drop93, but there are so many cuts and fabrics and colors that I can’t decide what to purchase.

I’m asking you for recommendations : what would be a good starter coat or suit for a 24 years old soon to be young professional ? The first thing many people say is to get a navy or grey suit, but that’s banal and frankly, not very sprezz. I have around 1k€ to spend.

that's just perspective. It fits rather snug actually. And too long is completely relative to how its cut. Personally I'm not a fan of the super short jackets, and that's a vintage one from the 80s or so. which may explain the longer length

I think what it is, is that the jacket is cut for low rise trousers, and the waistcoat isn't. The label says Simon James Cathcart and they cut everything to go with 1930's style high rise trousers. Look at their website and you'll see what I mean.

1. Lose weight.
2. Stay hydrated.
3. Lose the jacket and wear a long-sleeved shirt - you sweat less if you don't expose your skin to sun, and one layer is better than two.
4. Linen doesn't mean shit if it's woven tightly - show us the weave against a light source, preferably a windows with sun shining on it.

The people who say summer fabrics make menswear comfortable in the heat are right with a caveat; if it's humid and hot literally nothing you wear will make you feel cooler. The only thing you can do in humidity is wear something loose so at least your sweaty clothes aren't sticking to you. You'll still feel hot though.

trenchcoats can only be worn by people with broad shoulders and a full chest and back. anyone else looks like a dickhead in them. trenchcoats should not be made below a 44 chest.
