GP is one of those HH-adjacent brands. Much better than average quality, but definitely not at the top. They've never quite been able to develop much traction in the market but they've always been good enough to stick around.
As for iconic, though, their Three Golden Bridges architecture is quite well-known among horology enthusiasts and they've been doing it since the 1880s. But that said, even among watch collectors, the people who actually care about movements are a tiny minority.

FYI, fun fact: Piaget actually started as movement makers in the 1870s and moved into jewelry later in the 1950s.

The problem with the Santos is that it's a great watch if it's your only watch, but if you already have a couple, you'll find it doesn't quite fit anywhere.
The Santos' movement is well-designed to withstand shocks, and it's 100m WR, but if you have any sports watches, the Santos' perpensity to pick up scratches means it's not great as a sports watch.
It's definitely a pretty watch, especially when you swap it to a strap but if you already have a dress watch, the Santos' sportier character makes it less suitable.

If I already had the Rolex, I would get a Santos Dumont instead (or some other dress watch) since it's a little more focused on being elegant.

The bezel alone is 25 pieces and every piece of the entire band and bezel is individually sallaz polished. Even the jews at hodinkee said it's the fit and finish is one of the best under 5k but then he goes on to say it's too similar to the GMW-B5000. The double standard against Casio is hilarious. I think it's worth it if you care about the finish. That's the whole point of the watch and explains everything about it: the construction, the materials, and the cost. Fakes can be bad when it comes to the reliability of an unserviced movement and servicing them may prove to be an issue since (depending on where you live) a lot of jewelers and watch repair shops won't work on replica's. Not to mention you caring about ruggedness and time accuracy, which is much more reliable on a quartz watch.
If you're going to buy fakes you might as well get a few Pagani homage watches. It's more likely that anyone will service an homage watch than a straight up clone, they use the Seiko NH35 movement so pretty much everyone will service them, they're cheaper to replace when they break, and most normies won't care that it straight up copies a popular design since a lot of fashion watches also do that and normies love fashion watches. You might get hate from watch snobs, but unless you specifically want to impress autists and older upper middle class men you probably shouldn't care.
