Because it is considered uncouth and elitist for politicians to dress any better than their average constituents’ Sunday Best.

So the rule of thumb is even if they are wealthy elites, they try to blend with the masses and don’t deviate from the political norm. The fact that many get stuck in the trends of their youth (a la Trump) doesn’t help either.

Exceptions to the rule are those with unusual youth (like Kennedy), celebrity (like Reagan), or Euros. Oh, and Harry Truman.
