No. Rolex is firmly a middle-class brand.

>> No.17070148

I really like Rolex watches. But I've been priced out completely over the last 3 years. A Sub is a great watch for under $10k but these people paying $20k for one or sucking off an AD to get one are cucked beyond belief. For $15k you are firmly in big boy territory with serious watches from JLC, Blancpain etc. I just don't get how you can justify it unless you only care about flexing, and even then you'll only really be impressing lower class people.

I'm convinced that most people who are still participating in the Rolex charade don't actually know or care about watches. Same for people participating in the Nautilus or Royal Oak circus. It's like a Mercedes in the US.

Obviously a lot of their models are priced such that you'd have to be of at least a certain financial level, plenty of rich people own a Mercedes, but there's also a lot of poorfags bleeding their eyes out to make payments on whatever shitter Mercedes they're leasing and they make the biggest deal out of having one to make other poorfags lust. Meanwhile to other rich people a Mercedes is just a nice-ish car and that's fine but no one really cares unless maybe it's some vintage one or something really over the top

This is true with most shit. A bunch of autists will cope and seethe and nitpick about the nuances of this bullshit and then a rich person comes along and says "I say, I saw my friend had a swell Roh-lex and I wished to inquire about purchasing one. A Day-Date? A president wore that? Pretty neat sir! I'll take one. Oh, you say there's a platinum one, sure that sounds great!"

Same goes with cars, electronics, fashion, dining, whatever generally.

Alternatively, would navy croc or ostrich work?

Rolex is the Louis Vuitton of the watch world, everybody saves up for the one piece they want to show off, while there's 2 kinds of wealthy people, one that prefers something more expensive that isn't mainstream or the other one who prefers something cheaper that works. It's cope if you say "instead of buying the watch I want I'll buy this! It's just as good/it's a little worse but it'll do."
Now, the other part of the problem are people who claim that every steel bracelet watch merely wants to be a cheaper alternative to Rolex and therefore, whatever watch you buy is just a cope unless it's a Rolex. If you buy a Rolex they'll say that you bought a fake.

I thought their new CEO would turn things around. Think he started in 2018 or so. He has done a real shit job. The Due is a joke and they have made the entry level models worse. They continue pushing pointless collabs and lifestyle LARP instead of doing anything interesting. It’s frustrating because I like the design of the Luminor and the Radiomir and they have the considerable might of Richemont behind them, but they have lost the plot. Their prices have gone into the stratosphere despite them cutting costs any way they can and they are losing market share big time. They need to fire their executives and get someone in who actually cares about watchmaking.

I'm pretty sure they've gone full Chinese mode. They've opened a lot of new stores in Asia over the last few years. Panerai has settled into a niche in the west since they already had their time throughout the 2000s but a lot about their watches still appeals to Chinese sensibilities. I was wondering how they kept aggressively expanding their line when I know for a fact they have to be losing shitloads of money at least in America, but I think they're being propped up by Chinese new money discovering the brand for the first time.

>> No.17095643

I thought the Chinese economy was in the shitter.

With regards to Panerai, though, they pretty much completely lost their way once they started going """in-house""" with their movements.
I think it was inevitable, since they never really had any follow up to their basic designs.
An old PAM002 from 20 years ago is still better looking than any model they've made since.

>I thought the Chinese economy was in the shitter.
It's very difficult to analyze the Chinese economy in the same way we do in the west. Consider the people who are buying luxury watches in China. They're very wealthy compared to the average citizen and likely hold a position of power. Now consider the extreme levels of corruption in China. Even if the economy is trending downwards, you're still getting your palms greased if you're in a position of influence. In fact, using Swiss watches as bribes was common practice until the government started taking a more serious look at it. Now they have to be a bit more subtle with it.

Morning/fa/ggots. Looks like CNA is going to write check for this bad boy, just a matter of working the estimate out with the building consultant they hired. It's a goddamn miracle. The adjuster with CNA was even a hot woman, which is even more rare than them actually wanting to pay for something without months of forensic engineering faggotry. Also, looks like /pol/tard is absolutely insane. After 4 dates and 3 fucks, she wants to move in with me.

40mm to 42mm seems to be sweet spot for me. The gold Speedy Pro I've had an eye on is 42. I would love to have a Day Date 40, but after a visit to the AD on the Northside after the inspection...it appears unlikely that I can get one any time soon.

The Day Date I can get at retail, but I have to wait 6 months. Another AD down the road had a white gold and yellow gold Speedy Pro that I could walk out the door with for 20% off plus an alligator strap and matching deployment clasp (clasp would have to be ordered). They also had a rose gold Zenith Chronomaster Sport, which I like a lot. Precious metal bracelet is a sticking point for me. The yellow Gold Speedy will be around 28k, the white gold around 31k, so around 20-25k cheaper than a DD and no waiting. Ironically, the Rolex AD actually had a platinum DD for sale, which I would realistically consider should these first three jobs close around the same time. 10-15% of my first big pay day of the year is budgeted for a retarded watch purchase.
