>Someone please explain to me what the appeal of these microbrands is?

It's the appeal of a smaller community. Everyone wants to have what Panerai owners had 15-20 years ago.
By the early 2000s, Panerai had made, in total less than 10,000 watches over their entire existence. So even just owning one made you part of a super-special club, that was legitimately about watches and friendship, not about being a rich asshole.

With Rolex, Omega, etc, you can't do that because there's always someone who will have a better collection and it's constant flexing. You have a Speedmaster? Big deal, I have four. You have four? Big deal, I have a 321. A 321? That's cute, I have an Ultraman.

>> No.17068460

The fact that you keep coming back around to price and prestige when literally no one else has brought it up suggests you're deeply insecure.

In fact, you don't need to be. We like an interesting collection. If all a collection has going for it is high price, we typically call it boring.

I owned one. I found it to be very well made and surprisingly comfortable. They tend to fit small wrists pretty well too because their lugs are short. Ultimately I flipped it because I got tired of the look.

I have a timex chronograph and it kinda sucks. The seconds and two of the chronograph hands are misaligned. The chronograph function completely stopped working after 3 years and servicing costs more than buying a new watch. I've read online that the timex chronographs are much more prone to breaking so my experience may not be that uncommon.
You can get a Casio with the same functionality, better durability and quality control for the same price. If you like the looks of chronographs, save up and get a more expensive one that has actual quality control.

Omegay Semenmaster Planet Cope-cean.

The first gen version with the 2500D movement was the best they ever made. Reasonable size, reasonable thickness, nice design cues that call back to the Seamaster 300 of the late 1960s.

>Audemars Piguet moved up two places to fourth position and achieved a record year, the best in its history. It overtakes historical competitor Patek Philippe which, despite its enormous desirability and the buzz created by the Tiffany & Co. edition of the Nautilus ref. 5711, did not experience the same virtuous cycle as Audemars Piguet.

>Audemars Piguet is surfing on an unbroken wave of the success with the Royal Oak, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and will undoubtedly contribute to another record year. We estimate that almost 90% of its sales are generated by the Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore, but the Code 11:59 collection launched in January 2019 is starting to make its mark and accounts for 5% of sales.

The article for anyone who wants it, some pretty interesting results.

American culture is centered around niggers. They have holidays for niggers. They killed hundreds of thousands of white men to free niggers. They listen to nigger music. They elect a nigger as their president. They dress and act like niggers. They draw the entirety of their modern culture from niggers. They post sassy gifs about niggers. They watch sportsball in worship of niggers. Their biggest event of the year involves throwing parties in honor of niggers playing sports. They use nigger slang like "bruh" and "thot". When you say "Martin Luther" they're not thinking of the father of protestantism. They're thinking of the nigger. Their cities are completely overrun with niggers. They worship their ZOGbot police force disproportionately filled with niggers and their global police force of soldiers filled with niggers. Their men sit around watching nigger ball while their women sit around watching nigger talk shows. They worship niggers like Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson and the late Eddie Murphy while attacking the whites who actually built their country before niggers took over. Their movies are filled with niggers and their music charts are topped by niggers. They send niggers to the Olympics and celebrate when the niggers win because those niggers are true red blooded american niggers. They watch nigger porn to a point where "BBC" does not make them think of an international media company but about nigger penises instead. They will tell you how much they hate niggers and how the mutt's law meme is a stale joke and they are just pretending to love niggers but the evidence speaks for itself in that America has always been and will be a nation of nigger loving niggers

What's the point about this kind of brag? It's not like Rolex owners can get it up anymore. Watch collecting is one of those richie-rich hobbies, like collecting sports cars is for even richer people, where the quantity of shit someone has correlates inversely with their male potency.

That is the reason why Casio and Seiko wearers are virile: they're young, they're not yet so fat and sedentary as to have lost their mojo. Those are watches for young middle class people, or ones that poorfags can afford once in their lifetimes when they turn 40.

This used to be true, but not anymore. Now it is literally impossible to just casually buy a Rolex, you need to play the AD wank game or sit on a waiting list for 6-36 months. Or you're paying grey market prices and buying one for the same price as an objectively nicer watch because R O L E X. For anyone with a remotely desirable new Rolex from the past 2-5 years, it is still a weird ass all consuming thing.

I work in finance, none of our execs or senior management have rolexes because they're not big watch guys. I have seen a Ball, Longines, IWC, Omega, aka the stuff you can buy in store on the day without any fuss, but never any of the hypebeast, waiting list, let the ad fuck your wife, or pay 500% msrp watches.

The next 5 years will be interesting imo as prices either continue to come down, grey market gets wrecked, and we return to normality OR collectors and autists keep buying up this stuff to the point that it isn't cool anymore because nobody knows anyone with one of those watches who isn't obsessed with it.

Was the standard, these are actual 'normie' rich people who the poster was talking about that used to 'casually buy a rolex' and now don't.

>> No.17069463

Called basically all the Tudor ADs on the east coast of australia today confirming once again none of them have any bb pro in stock (or even bb58 for most of them), and none of them have any idea how many they will get/when. Some of the ADs I talked to tried to tell me "oh Tudor has become very desirable and incredibly in demand, similar to rolex", and a few asked me about purchase history.

Based on WUS, r/watchexchange, and c24 it looks like a ton of people are trying to sell above retail, but the only ones moving are at or very slightly above msrp+tax+shipping. Basically it looks like there's plenty of demand for these at retail, but it is definitely not a bb chrono situation. I'm going to the states next month and will try to buy one there, it looks like Rolex/Tudor have zero interest in sending any watches to Australia, probably because all the ADs here just hand then off immediately to resellers.

Yeah nah if anything they make it sound more promising over the phone to get you in store so they can try to shill you some other garbage. When I called my local ad he said yeah come on in we've got a couple black bays and a pro. They had a display only model pro on nato and a bb41 heritage red bezel, plus the usual bb36 and 41s in ss. I also double checked that I was still on the waiting list and it turns out every place actually took my details down correctly so that was a pleasant surprise. I've spoken to my local ad about Tudor stock several times at this point and it's pretty clear Australia gets fuck all allocation, and when they do get something it's all goes straight to resellers who will buy asap and have purchase history from flipping

They're tied. The DLCd metal case makes it the most durable, and screwback is a plus, once you try it you can never go back. You can service it forever. However the carbon fiber strap is the most durable, and the backplate on that one is titanium.

I'd say if you want "the" """heirloom" square go for the 5000 with metal case. If you want lightweight and thinnner profile definately go for the titanium and carbon fiber.

this is mega retarded, all watches have a limited service life. Imagining you're going to buy a watch and have it in 30, 40, 50 years is just dumb. Especially if it's some shitter, you're just going to decide to chuck it in 10, 20 years even if it's functional just because the shit's been beaten out of it and it's crunchy and a new one is like $50 (or whatever it'll be in BidenBucks by them). Or, holy fuck, you may just decide you like a new watch more.

For every boomer sitting and sipping over his 20 year old g-shock there's like 1000 people just said "fuck it" and tossed- for good reason.

>NOOOOOO IT'LL EVENTUALL RUST OUT AND THE LUGS WILL BREAK AND

only a problem if you've duped yourself into believing shit lasts forever, and you're going to buy one watch and have it forever.
I think this is a problem with retards generally- instead of recognizing products have limited lifespans and they can imagine their purchase as costing $X a day of use until their demise, they just believe shit will last forever and then are horrified and gobsmacked when their cat takes a shit on it

the only real reasons to get a solar/multiband gshock:
> you use the backlight so much it'd rapidly kill a normal watch
> you're so autistic you check your watch against atomic time and it NEEDS to be right
> you're contemplating hyperinflation/supply chain disruptions/civil war and there won't be another watch available (but you still need a watch so you don't go crazy in your bunker)

I have a date today with a /pol/tard. Which watch should I wear?
>Omega Semenster Ass n' Titties
>Tooter Big Boy Bronze
>"I swear I'm not gay" Cartier Tank XL
Well, /fa/ggots, what will it be? I will post a pic of me pointing at her very, very nice ass instead of the usual pointing at shitbox flat roofs.

Fair enough, I also want to quit using a smartphone but everyone here uses Whatsapp to communicate which is Android and IOS only.
If you don't have a smartphone then with the money saved from not buying a smartphone you could buy a less autistic watch.

>less autistic
Reality is of people with watches, autists are the ones buying the more complicated ones.

Chad:
>idk it tells me the time and date and it was $10 so whatever
>idk it's a ROLEXROLEXROLEX and I thought it looked cool

Autist:
>WELL YOU SEE THIS ONE OFFERS 5 ALARMS AND A RESIN CORE WITH MULTIBAND 6 AND THE WORLD TIME FEATURE WAS RECENTLY UPDATED TO INCLUDE ANOTHER 44 WORLD CITIES, WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT AS I MAY TRAVEL TO NEPAL ONE DAY AND IT WOULD BE SEPPUKU FOR ME IF I HAD TO SET IT MANUALLY. THE FINISHING ON THE MR G VERSION OF THIS IS VERY IMPRESSIVE HOOOOWEVER I FIND THIS ONE WITH THE SAME MODULE TO BE OF ROUGHLY EQUAL UTILITY, BUT NOW IF IT HAD A GPS TIME SYNC FEATURE I WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED ASIDE FROM THE POTENTIAL IMPACT ON BATTERY LIFE. SPEAKING OF WHICH THE DISPLAY IN THE DW5600-1JPUY-S VERSION WAS UPDATED AND THERE'S SOME DEBATE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THAT'S ACTUALLY AN IMPROVEMENT OR A COST-SAVING MEASURE ON THE PART OF CASIO. DURABILITY WISE ALL G-SHOCKS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE CAPABLE OF WITHSTANDING A FORCE OF 100Gs, WHICH IS EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE. HOWEVER THE POLYURETHANE BAND ON THIS ONE HAS BEEN REINFORCED TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL COMFORT AND SUPPORT WHICH IS EXTREMELY POSITIVE. THE DATE WINDOW HAS BEEN UPDATED TO SUPPORT THE DD.MM FEATURE, WHICH IS VERY POSITIVE FOR EUROPEANS LOOKING FOR A MORE CONVENTIONAL DISPLAY FORMAL. NOW WITH THE BLUETOOTH SETTINGS....
>WELL THIS ROLEX NUMBER REFERENCE 19019 HAS BEEN CLASSICALLY ACCLAIMED...

I have seen too many IT autists with an F-91W or DW-5600 it's not even funny. The only cool autist I've seen with a Casio had one of those $60 gold colored ones that fit his outfit.
As for chads who wear Casio/G-Shock I know of one weight lifter who bought a fake G-Shock of aliexpress for $20, the rest wear fashion watches or <$500 divers.

Seiko and Rolex are the only relevant ones. Maybe Casio, Citizen and Omega too but that's about it.

I often don't take my cellphone with me, but I'm never that far from a clock. Cars have them, public transport has them, some buildings have them on the side, nearly every room in public buildings/offices/schools has them, and everyone has a few in their home.
