Some context: from my experience Micallef seems to be one of these expensive "niche" brands like MFK that is mostly bought by rich people as gifts but they got some good stuff. Especially for this kind of price lol. 78EUR for 100ml is cheaper than 60% of retail designer frags. I've only tested their Gaiac and Royal Vintage in past. Really liked Gaiac so just snapped up a 30ml bottle (and hate the latter). It's one of the comfiest warm-spicy, woody scents I tried. It comes really close to MDCI Fetes Persanes. I can highly recommend it to everyone. I also blind bought Emir to get free shipping as it seemed to be the best choice for my taste.

I don't know Aoud, sorry. I even didn't considered as I'm sorted with rose+ouds and don't see a place for a second fragrance of this type in my collection. Emir seems very snice. Zworykina's Young Cossack is unbelievable. Not sure if I don't prefer it over Cuir de Russie. Gonna write more after testing it thoroughly. Posting her description and notes for now.
>Endless russian steppe covered with wild thyme and wormwood. A sudden gust of wind brings dust and smoke. A distant sound of hoofs of a lonely rider’s horse. Here he is, in hazy heat of a late summer noon. He’s on the road again, aiming for a long evening by a fireplace, smelling with leather of gloves and saddle, with lavender and sweat, tobacco and honey, blooming hedges and cold streams. Shameless youth and joy of living one’s life in it’s full.

The guy that wrote it is generally quite snobby at the best of times. I think “influencer” is doing Jeremy a disservice. Although it may be an apt description for him, I think he’s a cut above most influencers in terms of reach and actual influence. Whether people like to admit it or not, he got a lot of people interested in fragrance. I’m mostly interested in niche now, but I wouldn’t be here without him.

Part of the reason I posted the images is because I found it odd, and quite annoying, that Creed seem to be saying that the batch variation is intentional. They’re notorious for piss-poor quality control and they are now calling it a feature instead of a flaw.

Agree on Jeremy, nor do I think there's anything strange about a fragrance "influencer" (there's online personalities for every subject nowadays) nor do I think his name is that particularly noteworthy for snide remark.

Creed worship is one of the most aggravating things in the fragrance "community". There's the batches, there's worshipping all the garbage they put out, believing their "history" and marketing. An example of this to me is how people will blindly prostrate themselves before GIT and attest to its of higher quality, its depth and complexity, how it isn't synthetic (I hate this term) and overall how its better than Cool Water. I think they do this because of the high price tag they pay now (though it used to be cheaper, I've seen basenotes forums when browsing saying they could cop a bottle for 60 bucks back in 05). I wrote an autistic long ass screed about it which is the pic. No one should bother if its too long or they cant be bothered but if anyone is interested.

I'm not going to lie I personally do enjoy Aventus and feel that Creed get hated on unfairly for it. Its's over worshiped but its a pleasant scent and I'm sure they have other good fragrance. If they didn't lie about their history, have batch inconsistency, mark up their prices and have the disgusting marketing they do I would not have any issue with them even if I disliked the scents.

Cool Water is a timeless scent and seeing it disregarded as a GIT "clone" or seen as less "complex" really aggravates me. Luca's opinion is helpful and interesting but it isn't gospel. Nevertheless he's right on his 5 stars for CW imo and the moronic discussion surrounding CW's 5 stars vs GIT's 4 pisses me off. I need to buy another 200ml and smell this shit right now.

Try Zootopian Musk Deer. I feel like the drydown is kind of similar (but better and more complex) to Royal Oud. Don’t get me wrong, I own and love Royal Oud as well, but Musk Deer is really snice. The opening kind of reminds me of Enigma, too. The whole thing is kind of a mix of Royal Oud + Enigma + cardamom.

Looking to get a sample of Timbuktu, saw on ebay a guy selling "pre-reformulation" (older clear glass bottle). Is there a significant difference between them? I think I'd just buy a new bottle sample since if I bought a bottle it'd be the new one anyway but I am interested if the performance, silage etc. is worse or if it smells different now.

If you want to take just a step or two away from mainstream designer frags then take a look into Diptyque and Tom Ford Private Blend and Etat Libre d'Orange offerings. In particular Philosykos, Tam Dao, Tobacco Vanille, Tuscan Leather, Oud Wood, Fat Electrician, Exit The King, Remarkable People should make a long lasting impression and will seem mindblowingly unique if you're not used to niche but are all still safe and crowdpleasing. Tom Ford Private Blend was my first exposure to niche. I know people debate about whether it actually is niche, but I think what can be said for that line is that it’s off the beaten track in terms of scent. Dior and Chanel wouldn’t release Tobacco Oud in a million years so while the line may not be niche, it’s a good way to test the waters of what niche can offer.

Can't speak for the concentrated versions but for the lesser concentrations they're not big enough if you want to wear these scents regularly. Mileage will vary but for example her 150 Days to Summer is an absolutely stunning aromatic-herbaceous Eaux de Cologne with lots of personality, but it's basically gone after 1-2h. You'd expect more from a 15ml bottle you paid $125 for. I think that she should let the prices vary depending on the costs of ingredients just like Prin Lomros, Dusita or Papillon all do instead of setting them in stone. However, I don't regret paying that much for my bottle of Cuir de Russie. It's a very special frag that I'm going to wear sparsely for special occasions and I think this is how you should approach buying a full bottle from her. That being said I enjoy thoroughly testing the samples. She simply has different sensitivity than most of Western perfumers. Look at this painting for a minute and think about it. That's how Zworykina's fragrances feel like. All of 11 fragrances I tested had vivid, unforgettable openings setting the scene, but eventually they were all about the atmosphere and emotions created by small, unsaid things that are easy to not notice if you're not paying attention. I can't help but make parallels between her style and Russian literature. Zworykina's work just feels too consistent with the sensitivity you can find there. Even her characteristic melancholic, tranquil drydown accord (that I noticed in most of the samples I tried) made of bitter-herbaceous wormwood, galbanum and dusty labdanum just feels like some Tolstoy's passage describing Russian steppes. These are rather frags to sit in an armchair and think about not some bottled unique, edgy experiences like some niche perfumes. Manage your expectations right because if you expect to get The Great Gatsby, Slaughterhouse-Five, Lolita, Fight Club and The Catcher in the Rye all in one sample set then you might be in for a disappointment.

Yeah, that annoyed me. What’s especially annoying is that Esquire often have “advertisement features”. A page or two where a company will use a similar format to the regular articles, but they can say what they want. The difference is they have to identify the pages as adverts. This Creed one doesn’t feel any different but it’s not paid for. It actually made me stop and consider how much other bullshit I’m reading. I always err on the side of caution and assume that people use these interviews as an opportunity for promotion, but not to completely lie like this. If anything the article actually made me realise just how much bullshit Creed spew all over the place.

Has anyone here tried de Nicolai's Patchouli Intense? There is no way to sample it here without paying exorbitant shipping fees, and talk online is so vague, abstract, or in bits and pieces that I don't even know how to begin trying to imagine what it smells like. A comparison would be really helpful too since I have no point of reference to build off of.

You can’t stand abstract? It is a wintertime evening black tie frag. Doesn’t smell like patchouli. 60+. Relentless. I’m a serial oversprayer but wouldn’t spray it more than twice.

Do you know what geranium smells like? It's floral-rosy, sweet scent with green aromatic undertones and it's the most prominent note here. Indeed, it should be called Geranium Intense imo. Geranium is joined by a typical Nicolai's lavender that is quite sharp, minty, herbaceous and hay-like. The rest is just background to. Overall it feels like a fougere on the floral-dandy side of things. You got some woody and spicy notes with a touch of sweetness and a dash of earthy-green patchouli. Overall it's very well blended and quite abstract lime most of Nicolai's stuff and hence the reviews are not doing it justice. It's classy, masculine but at the same time has some personality. I can imagine an ambassador wearing it to a cocktail party in Ritz.

I should add that it's on the mature side of things (not dated though). You should be 30+ and I'm saying it as a guy who is 28 and figured his shit out and who wears quite a few mature frags.

Quite good but it seems to me that he's one of these people who spend way more time reading about frags instead of testing them and compiled a list partially based of others' recommendations not his best knowledge. I have only tested them once so far, but since they stay on forever its not nothing. My favorite so far is probably Under my Skin. It has the same DNA as Lovers Tale, just a little less boozy and a tad more masculine. I wanted to try it on paper but I sprayed it on my wrist the second I smelled it, it was immediatly likeable. >What is the most niche music that only the most experienced people can appreciate?
"Most niche" is not a well defined notion and measuring fragrances by how challenging they are is not a viable criterion. It's too personal. We all got our own tolerances for different things. Someone who grew up in the Middle East won't find barnyardy ouds off-putting etc etc. I'm saying it as a hardcore nichefag who tested around 2k different scents as of now. What is true though is that as you sniff more things you become more open-minded about unusual notes and accords as you get familiar with them. I think that smell is one of the most primal senses as it's the most neglected one when speaking of cultural influence; just look at how poor scent-vocabulary everyone has when starting with frags. Thus it triggers some lizard parts of the brain when you smell something new and unusual as it may mean danger for it. The amount of smells people are comfortable with is also culturally predefined (but changing slowly according to current fashion) and quite small. That's why most of the bestsellers smell similar to each other as that's what people are familiar with. I'm pretty sure that getting into more niche things is very strongly correlated with open-mindness as a psychological character trait. This is why I always recommend to buy samples and decants to new people who want to get deeper and not simply get one or two scents and be sorted out with fragrances - their taste is going to change immensely in the first few months, or rather they are actually going to find out what they truly like once they will try different, new things. Sadly just like with other senses there's a limit. I don't think one can develop his nose above some genetically pre-determined threshold. I don't have any delusions about my nose - I'm simply not able to pick up as many details as others but I'm fine with that.

No they shouldn't. Why to fall from one extreme (feminine sweet vanilla scents) to another? There's lots of middle ground.

>Ultra Male/Eros/Layton should compare how close they smell to top selling women's frags to get a reality check
That's the joke with Ultra Male. It was made as gay/feminine as possible while still making it possible to pass as a men's fragrance by naming it ULTRA MALE.

For real. Mon Guerlain or La Vie Est Belle could easily be sold as a "masculine" in the same vein as Layton or Ultra Male.

I agree. Just add a dash of fresh citruses on top of it and boom, done.

At first glance she's very attractive but then you imagine her without makeup or a choker and you realize she's probably a solid 6.

Have you tried it? It’s nice, but no sense risking a blind buy on a discontinued scent just because of FOMO

But as a straight guy, I love wearing vanilla-tonka and dislike earthy-leather anon. If not for eros, cahsee, and layton, I would probably not have an ounce of interest in this fragrance world

What is the ultimate eveyday normie scent so I can just buy a big bottle?

>> No.16005689

>>16005545
Depends on what you mean. If you just want something mass appealing that you can just wear whenever as a signature scent, probably just something like Dior Sauvage , Y by YSL or Bleu de Chanel.

If you just want something cheap than normies will think smell good, probably something like Nautica Voyage or Davidoff Cool Water.

I'm from California, so if by "Socal" guys you mean the two in the video, I find them extremely boring and uninteresting to listen to for any period of time - like most people from Los Angeles. They kind of cement why Jeremy is as popular as he is, by being the complete opposite of him.

If you mean people from the socal region in general, then I can't argue against that. However, if you ask me, everyone on this planet is a bastard coated bastard with bastard filling.

Wrong. I don't own any beast mode fragrance and dislike boozy notes. Woody notes are nice when accompanied by something else. Funny to see getting only these projections in response.
